Gygrestolen is the characteristic group of pillars SW of Bø that can be seen from town. A fantastic area for adventure trad climbing with excellent granite and beautiful views.
Suseptible to the elements, its wise to only visit when its sunny. The season is typically from April to September. The routes (and subsequent exposure) are typically tough for the grade so don't expect any giveaways.
The land owner is not happy with climbers, so please tread lightly. The approach trail is on the northern side of the mountain, ensuring access is difficult early season when snow lies above 200m.
From the Bø train station, drive 3,7km towards Lunde. Turn right towards Tveiten. Follow the road for 1,5km and go left where it parts. Follow the road along the left side of Uvdalstjønna and park alongside the road, by the second marked path to Gygrestolen. Roughly 50 minutes from the carpark if you are familiar with the trail.
Camping is possible by Uvdalstjønna.
This area is predominately a trad area and should be respected as one. New bolting is currently banned. Be aware that the bolts on the old routes (Petzl Cheville) are unsafe, and require one-for-one replacement.
