Yorkeys Knob Headland Guide

  • Grade context: AU
  • Ascents: 3

A Crag Guide gives an extensive view of all sub areas and climbs at a point in the index. It shows a snapshot of the index heirachy, up to 300 climbs (or areas) on a single web page. It shows selected comments climbers have made on a recently submitted ascent.

At a minor crag level this should be suitable for printing and taking with you on a climbing trip as an adjunct to your guidebook.

description

A hidden cliff overrun by shrub housing potential short lines. A tucked away oasis 5 min walk from the north Carpark from the Yorkeys Knob beach. Also has a nice little bouldering wall 150m further north along shoreline/around headland further from hidden cliff.

access issues

Be wary at any coastal or riverside crags for the potential of crocodiles and if you're in the water marine stingers.

inherited from Cairns

approach

Park in the Yorkies Beach carpark (not the marina) and walk past the north little beach with a rocky shore line. Walk along rock front and TIME WITH LOW TIDE (https://tides.willyweather.com.au/qld/far-north/yorkeys-knob.html). A steep section near the second small cliff feature may require a via ferrata as is steep, so watch yourself. Traverse this to the cliff. Walk about 150m or so more north along rock coast for the bouldering (loong low semi overhung wall).

ethic

Clean up wherever you go, take your rubbish, or any you find out with you. Brush chalk. So many of these areas are pristine and we should all make an effort to keep it that way.

Clean and brush but try minimise destroying vegetation. Steel wire brushes are okay in most places but avoid if possible.

Tick marks are ok, but please brush them off when you leave.

Please don't chip holds and do minimise contrived routes. Also minimise route beta in descriptions to ease onsight attempts.

For any route you create that you know is hard to find, please add in the lat and long in the route details / geotag it so it can be found using maps. Finding the routes in the rainforest can be hard.
