Sparse and remote crags along the Boggy Hole track and Finke River, but scenic and adventurous climbing. Mostly trad with routes from 20-55m high
Deep Gully and Halfway Crag are within the Finke Gorge National Park approximately 2 hours drive form Alice Springs. Running Waters is a privately owned station with access permissible in the vicinity of the Boggy Hole Track and Finke River. A reliable and high clearance 4WD is essential to access these crags, with particular care required after heavy rain or on hot summer days.
Can be accessed from the north via Hermannsburg or from the South via the Ernest Giles track.
Bush camping with no facilities only. Use designated camping spots within Finke Gorge National Park or camp at Running Waters adjacent vehicle track and crag.
Strictly don't bolt anything in the Finke Gorge National Park.
Most climbing exploration and route finding in the area in the past 20 years has been mostly carried out by Garn Cooper and various climbing partners willing to make the effort. Some mystery bolted routes are in place at Running Waters including an epic grade 27/28 with no recorded first ascent. There is still a fair bit of opportunity for establishing new routes for those willing to put in the work.
