A ribbon of slab extending north-south, facing east, for about 260 odd meters

설명

Located to the far north-east of the hillock, facing the Raogodlu hillock. A ribbon of slab extending north-south, facing east, for about 260 odd meters. In sections steep, and in sections gentler slab. These slabs are directly below the Temple Parking lot to the east.

As with the next section of Drive-by, abutting the tractor trail that connects between the villages to the north (Ravugodlu/Nettigere/Gundanjaneya Gudi) and the Bettahalli Kaval located immediately to the east of Mutturayaswami Betta.

Two other areas about this section, and both can also be reached using the same access options as below. The high boulders along the North-West trail section, are located along the trail that leads up to the slabs, to the right. The Drive-By area is located at the base of the slabs to the east.

The Berlin Wall or the North-West Wall can be accessed by hiking around to the right or the west. But this is a significant effort to reach the Berlin wall over the slabs or through that terrain.

The ribbon of slab has multiple sections with its own flavour of climbing potential.

Left of the trail Slab: Sections of this slab have been climbed in various styles by various groups and individuals. In sections the slabs are steep here for about 20-30 feet, and then the angle eases out.

NE Massif: As you walk along the slabs to the south, about 60 odd meters from the trail to the south, the steepest section of the slabs. Extending for about 50 odd meters at the base, and about 20-25 meters long, this section of the slab is in lighter hue than the rest of the slab with least amount of water runnels. This section is more uniformly steeper for about 20 odd meters. This is what is referred to by Shyam Krishnakumar as the North-East Massif. There are seven routes identified here, four of which are bolted for lead, one for top-rope, and two yet to be bolted.

Six-Finger Slabs: Immediately south of this section is a series of short slabs with trees on a ledge above them. About six of them separated by grass and mud filled channels. The sixth one just before the roof is a more imposing slabbish boulder than the previous five. One of the best locations for beginners, as the slabs are short and easy, and the lines are easy to be set up on lead.

The Roof Slab: The roof is self-evident, and for a section of the year has bee hives under it. Extends for about 30-40 meters.

Discovery slabs: As Shyam refers to this long section of the slab south of the roof.

The options to access the NE Massif section.

접근

Temple Parking (from East): 5-30 minutes hike in depending on which part of the slabs one is accessing. As the crow flies, the slabs are only about 100 odd meters from the temple parking.

Map to Muthurayaswamy Betta, which will take you east on the Kanakapura road after Kaggalahalli lake, and the south towards the Betta Halli Kaval village. Drie up to the Temple parking, and hike down to the routes. The slab access is from the north-west of the parking lot.

Prayoga Parking (from West) - 20-40 minutes hike in. Park at the Prayoga parking lot, and hike east along the the North-west Yedumadu trail until you reach the base of the hillock, and continue on the trail until you are on the lower slopes, and then continue the hike east. Orient for the tractor trail, through the fields, and then south along the tractor trail. About a kilometer and half of hike from Prayoga.

The other two options allow for motor-bikes or four-wheel drive vehicles alone.

Mantapa or Raogodlu side Parking (from North) - 10-15 minute hike in. If approaching from north, either park at the Mantapa, or park closer to the base of the hillock (but with risk of leaving the vehicle unattended in a remote terrain with no traffic).

From Gundanjaneya Gudi, head south towards Ravugodlu/Nettigere villages, and as the road turns right (west), at a Mantapa (a four-pillared structure with no walls, and situated on a short plinth/platform). Either park here, or if you have a two-wheeler or 4 by 4 vehicle, use the tractor trail heading south, and continue on that (and off the tarmacced road). After half a kilometer, through rutted and rocky road, get as close to the base and park.

The same Mantapa parking area and the tractor trail could be accessed from Prayoga, if you travel north, and then east (as the road naturally turns at the village), and then at the aforementioned Mantapa turn south.
