We stopped at Shipton Notch because of altitude sickness. Long day of almost 16h

Alternating lead with Seb V. The other party of our group was in front with a guide.

Bad weather. Rock completely wet. We used the variant described and it was not easy in mountaineering boots.

Made it 150m before bailing. Wet ice conditions, substandard equipment and lots of falling debris

Be ware of massive loose rocks. Otherwise a good fun alpine route

Guiding ascent. Client name: Margie Gathungu. Possibly 3rd woman of Kenyan descent to climb Batian and possibly first woman of Kenyan descent to ascend the North Face Standard route successfully

Guiding an expedition with a bivvy at the top. Did not cross over to Batian

Guiding an expedition, one client, carried roughly 15kg in bivvy gear and extra rope on top of leading the whole thing. Only went as far as the summit of Nelion

Guiding a client. Up and down in one day. Did not cross gate of mist due to a later arrival (1pm) on the summit of Nelion

Guiding. Started just after 4am and summited Nelion by 8am. Tricky ice conditions at the gate of the mists meant over 2 hours spent after departing from Nelion. By 11:10am we made it to Batian.

Guided 2 clients as well as Ian Lekiluai who became the first Samburu to climb the two summits of Nelion and Batian successfully on this trip. We spent a night on Nelion before crossing to Batian and back the next day.

Climbed up with an old teacher as my client. A fit runner (Mr. Martyn) who last climbed in his 20s. At the time of this ascent he was 58. We did a refresher on Point Peter and hit Batian the next day. We started at the base at 4:25am and had summited by 11:30. We were back on the ground by 5:00pm. It was swift and lovely. He was very happy as was Tigray, his wife who surprised him at the base when her and the cook and porters came up to meet us with some tea.

Bivvied twice: one planned, the other not.

From Mackinders Hut crossed Lewis Glacier? before daybreak. Long day climbing to arrive at Howells shelter approx 1800hrs and overnight with altitude sickness. Nelion only climbed. 18 pitch descent. Some blind abseils. Fantastic.

2 Bivi's One Planned One Not

Took us 7 hours door-to-door from Shipton’s. Scrambled up the gully to the first tat anchors. Hamish led pitch one (very easy, probably could have kept scrambling or simul-climbing), the 2nd pitch was the crux (about 5.7), Hamish led and traversed a little left and then up a crack system to next tat anchor. I led the last pitch which is amazing (and pretty easy) across the ridge up to the summit. Chilled out climb, good for beginners to the alpine world!

Nice warm up climb for the week that we spent up on the mountain.

Nice rest day scramble. Lots of loose rock though, cool position on the summit.

Just go do it. You won't regret it.

Very nice climb. I would say it is around 5.8 climbing at the crux. Long, it might have been more enjoyable to break it up over a couple of days since there were some nice looking bivies located all over the route.

Amazing. Felt rough most of the way but got to lead the final two pitches. Good weather all the way and slet in Howell Hut at the top. Good effort from Joel and Henrik, especially the Shipton's Crack pitch.

Via the direct variation. Nice!

Climbed with Heloise. Three pitches up the North-East Gully. When we go to the steep wall we took a left up to a big boulder. From the boulder we rappelled down to the next gully and climbed to the peak in two pitches.

From the peak we did a mini abseil to the block with lots of tat. Abseiled down the North East Gully and walked down after 3 abseils.
