Grade Route Gear style Quality
Fri 3rd Jan 2020 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Heathcliff
19 Pete Rhodes - with Heath Black, Stephen Varney Sport 25m, 9 Good
Once you get past the hideous start, this is tolerable as an access pitch, though certainly the ball-and-chain on the pitches above.

Thu 2nd Jan 2020 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Big Top
23 22 Praise the Llewd - with Heath Black Sport 25m Very Good
A climb of many parts. A funky layback start, some gripping arete climbing, and a techo (and surprisingly hard-to-read) face finale. I didn't bring enough draws so had the "pleasure" of skipping 2 bolts in the upper section. Only marred by the retro'd crack start, and the rather dubious rock on the face.

22 Hairy Vengeance - with Heath Black Sport 30m Very Good
Probably about grade 20 if you can crack climb. The finale isn't the crux if you can. At any rate, an awesome, landmark corner with varied and interesting moves the entire way. Super duper traddy.

23 22 I've Got 3 Buttocks - with Heath Black Sport 30m Very Good
Might even be classic if the move at the 3rd bolt (and in particular the nightmare clip) weren't so hideous, and it was a bit less ledgy. The upper half is brilliant climbing on tasty rock with some spicy runouts, and a techo slabby finale.

23 21 Abso Effing Llewdly - with Heath Black Sport 25m Very Good
Utterly nails at the grade, and my favourite on the routes on this wall. Not very sustained, but the hard moves between each rest are interesting and varied. Great rock.

22 20 FliX - with Heath Black Sport 25m Good
Onsight from the crux up. A very hard crux fingery at the grade, and substantially harder than the rest of the route. Not as clean or sustained as its neighbours, but still worthy,.

Sun 29th Dec 2019 - Mount Buffalo
The Cathedral
24 Substance Abuse - with Christopher Glastonbury
1 22 45m
2 24 45m
Sport 90m Good
Accidentally got on this instead of Edge of Pleasure. Didn't take long to realise our mistake. Heinously hard friction slabbing on untrafficked, somewhat mossy, somewhat snappy rock. Getting up this clean is about as hard as I can climb in the style.

The stupid screw-in sheathed caving bolts on the lower pitch unscrew themselves due to the fixed hangers (one only had about 3 turns of thread left from falling out). I didn't particularly enjoy having to hand-screw in the bolts (not the nuts, the bloody BOLTS) on lead.

Fri 20th Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Muir Valley The Sanctuary
5.12d Jesus Wept - with Will Vidler Sport 29m, 11 Mega Classic
First redpoint burn today after a bolt-to-bolt to warmup and equip. Felt strong and climbed well (its amazing what temperatures about 0 do for one's climbing ability), and sending this was a great end-cap to the trip, finishing in mega-classic fashion. Getting the team-send with Will Vidler was just the perfect conclusion.

5.11d Immaculate Deception - with Will Vidler Sport 27m, 9 Very Good
Loved the dihedral boulder problem start. The rest of the route across the face and up the arete is fun but only about 10c.

Thu 19th Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Eastern Gorge Region Funk Rock City
5.11b Prime Directive - with Will Vidler Sport 29m, 11 Very Good
Onsight from the crux up, flash to that point. Awesome 5.10ish arete climbing to the crux, to a rather committing and sandbagged move to gain the slab, then pleasant padding afterwards. Rock isnt mind-blowing, but the climbing is at the grade.

5.11c There Goes The Neighborhood - with Will Vidler Sport 29m Very Good
Not great rock, but enjoyable technical climbing on weird holds. The lower half is intense at the grade.

5.12c Orange Juice - with Will Vidler Sport 29m Classic
2nd shot. This did not make for a good warmup, and the 2nd shot send was a total surprise, as i thought I had no chance. Similar to a bentrovato wall face route on slightly better rock, marred only by a genuinely unpleasant main crux. To go from fear-of-frostbite after wading across the creek, to dodging icefall and Sending... rad!

Fri 13th Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Southern Region Bald Rock Recreational Preserve (BRRP) The Motherlode
5.11b Trust in Jesus - with Will Vidler Sport 15m, 5 Very Good
Jeebus, these are not good warmups. I had to try bloody hard not to fall off this. Short but sustained, fingery climbing.

Thu 12th Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Southern Region Pendergrass-Murray Recreational Preserve (PMRP) Drive-By Crag
5.10d Fire and Brimstone - with Will Vidler Sport 27m, 10 Classic
Aside from the crux of this being a proper sandbag (try 11c!), this route is funky wandery weirdness up a steep arete feature. Bloody good.

5.12a Check Your Grip - with Will Vidler Sport 24m, 7 Classic
Punter! Got so excited by the taipanesque sloper grooves that I forgot to look for the face hold finger-jugs. Had an exciting fall from this!

5.12a Hakuna Matata - with Will Vidler Sport 26m, 9 Classic
Rather gnarly on the fingers for a warmup, and quite sustained. Techical face climbing on incipient seam-features.

5.10d Breakfast Burrito - with Will Vidler Sport 24m, 10 Mega Classic
Brilliant face-climbing into a committing and demanding steep arete. As good as it gets for an easy route.

Wed 11th Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Lower Gorge Region Long Wall
5.12a The Gift - with Will Vidler Sport 21m, 9 Classic
Had to work bloody hard to onsight this old-school style committing classic, and got rather noisy with no chalk on the top to guide the bouldery finale, but stoked to manage it. A porters pass wandery slab leads to steep cranking and some gripping runouts. Psyched! I got hit on the head by a falling icycle while climbing this!

Mon 9th Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Southern Region Bald Rock Recreational Preserve (BRRP) The Chocolate Factory Oompa Loompa Land
5.12d Gene Wilder - with Will Vidler, Christopher Glastonbury Sport 23m Mega Classic
3rd shot. Classic Frothy send: riding the darkness with a headlamp, spoogy conditions, and a water streak wetting key footers. Beautiful Buoux pockets to super techo slab, this route was made by Satan just for my pleasure . Despite some sources saying 13a, this is definitely only 12d, even after I broke off half the crux hold.

5.10c Loompa - with Will Vidler, Christopher Glastonbury Sport 17m, 6 Mega Classic
Even better, even more nails! Beautiful rock, steepness, pockets, body positions.

5.10a 5.10b Oompa - with Will Vidler Sport 17m, 6 Classic
Ludicrous sandbag, but bloody spectacular even in miserable conditions. Steep pocket and funky body positions.

Sun 8th Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Muir Valley The Sanctuary
5.12d Triple Sec - with Will Vidler Sport 29m, 9 Classic
Very broken up, but 3 x super rad cruxes in different styles. The bouldery pocketed start is the highlight, but the face sections are interesting mono slabbing. Really cool. Prolly 12c.

Sun 8th Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Muir Valley Indy Wall
5.11c Mid-Life Crisis - with Will Vidler Sport 12m, 4 Very Good
Mostly cruisy (but weird) crimping with a single hard pull on a small hold. Okay, I guess.

5.10d Makin' Bacon - with Will Vidler Sport 12m, 5 Very Good
Surprisingly thin and sustained at the grade. Make sure you warmup your fingers first.

Sat 7th Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Southern Region Bald Rock Recreational Preserve (BRRP) The Motherlode
5.12a Ball Scratcher - with Will Vidler Sport 12m, 5 Very Good
Super short, but fun, committing gritstone slap-arete. Exciting in the wet, with a few moments of real panic.

5.12c Stain - with Will Vidler, Ashlee Hendy, Christopher Glastonbury Sport 15m, 6 Classic
Struggled in the cold today (numbed out on previous efforts), but managed to stick it out by skipping the final clip entirely.

Thu 5th Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Southern Region Bald Rock Recreational Preserve (BRRP) The Motherlode
5.11a Injured Reserve - with Will Vidler, Christopher Glastonbury, Ashlee Hendy Sport 18m, 5 Very Good
Basically a dawdle, with a v16 crux... even harder in the cold. Not a recommended warmup.

Wed 4th Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Muir Valley Solarium
5.12b Super Best Friends - with Will Vidler Sport 28m Mega Classic
So impossibly steep, with less jugs than you might expect, but still not too hard at the grade. Tonnes of fun.

5.12b Abiyoyo - with Will Vidler Sport 30m Classic
Mega climbing on a waterpolished steep face, but very cruxy. I came up with a moderately ludicrous drive-by cutloose for the send.

5.11c Banshee - with Will Vidler Sport 30m Classic
Beautiful rock and varied moves, with some tough climbing at the grade in the middle. The giant hueco's are funky!

5.11a Air-Ride Equipped - with Will Vidler Sport 20m, 7 Very Good
Pretty cool wandery steepness at the grade... but very stop-start.

Tue 3rd Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Miller Fork Recreational Preserve Fruit Wall
5.11c Witness the Citrus - with Will Vidler Sport 29m, 12 Classic
Bloody oath this is steep for the grade! Endless jugs forever with so much roofing!

5.11d Breakfast at Koops - with Will Vidler, Christopher Glastonbury, Ashlee Hendy Sport 18m, 7 Very Good
Steep as, with some cryptic sequences up high. So pumped on the onsight that this needed a 2nd lap.

5.10c JewJew Fruit - with Will Vidler Sport 23m, 8 Very Good
Some thin moves for a warmup. A long pumpy face.

Sun 1st Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Southern Region Bald Rock Recreational Preserve (BRRP) The Chocolate Factory Grandpa Joe's Wall
5.10a Wonkaholic - with Will Vidler Sport 17m, 7 Very Good
A tad damp, though fun for a short blunt slabby arete. The crux was soloing up to the first bolt via some tenuous footers.

Sun 1st Dec 2019 - Red River Gorge
Southern Region Bald Rock Recreational Preserve (BRRP) The Chocolate Factory Snozzberries Wall
5.11d Grumpalump - with Will Vidler Sport 16m, 5 Very Good
Its a good omen for a trip when you have to project the warmup as your first route in The Gorge... but I got there in the end. Super steep jugs with a brief pocketed bouldery crux.

5.12a Snozzberries - with Will Vidler Sport 27m, 8 Classic
An awesome climb linking rad features... with a healthy dose of committment. Felt more 11c to me.

Sun 24th Nov 2019 - Blue Mountains
Bells Line of Road & Chifley Rd Pierces Pass Walls Lookdown
28 Babylon - with Heath Black, Jared Anderson Sport 70m, 13 Mega Classic
FFA. Backlogging the FA. Sent this packing on my last possible shot before heading off to America, thanks muchly to the entourage of belayers who hung out on the ledge with me throughout this process. Old school, wandery, super-thin, reachy face-climbing which -as a full package- is a tonne of effort, but rewarding in the end. I'd argue that this is one of the best examples of this particular style in the Blueys, but theres a chance I'm just a liiiiiiiiiiitle bit biased. Maybe avoid it if its windy, though.

Sun 10th Nov 2019 - Blue Mountains
Mount Victoria Area Zap Crag Upper Zap
25 Stolen Inspiration! - with Lucas C, Magdalena de la Torre Sport 15m Very Good
2nd shot. Aside from some dubious rock, the climbing on this is bloody awesome. I suspect this is almost a 26 by now (with breakage), as I had to pull out all the guns and some funky trickery for the send. Regardless of grade, it's absolutely brilliant. Not a drop of chalk on it from start to finish, though?

22 Jug Buzz - with Magdalena de la Torre, Lucas C Sport 15m, 6 Very Good
Clean repeat. Much more fun than I remember. A really cool warm-up.

Wed 6th Nov 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Celebrity Crags Sharon Stone
25 Sliver - with Emil Mandyczewsky, Heath Black, Ben Jenga Sport 25m, 13 Classic
Was hoping to dispatch this quickly today... it still felt bloody hard even on the Send. Hard 25 or maybe even 26 by my reckoning. Despite being a line of "features", I'm never really able to use my footwork to "rest" in the upper half, making it really pumpy to the anchor. Bloody awesome though.

24 25 The Cinnamon Road - with Emil Mandyczewsky, Heath Black Sport 15m, 10 Very Good
Not the best rock, but really interesting climbing. The upper-half of this in particular is quite sustained and varied. Even for the red-point I thought this is a pretty tough number for "24". The complex finale to the anchors (the last 2 bolts or so) is what made this route for me. Be careful getting to the 3rd bolt.

Sun 27th Oct 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Celebrity Crags Sharon Stone
27 Some Violence and Sexual References - with Jason McCarthy, Jenna Brady, Emil Mandyczewsky, Lee Cujes Sport 20m, 11 Classic
Felt strong and dispatched fairly soundly today... still had to crank though. I was dead tired from the yesterday, but the "no expectations" meant I had no monkey on my back, and just treated this like training... then Sent.

Sat 26th Oct 2019 - Blue Mountains
Katoomba Area Ngula Bulgarabang/ Radiata Plateau Marchant's Canyon Crags Waylander
27 Hard Reset Sport 36m Classic
Good to finally get this done. Not sure how many days I've been on this, probably 4 or 5 over the last year. Up until you gain the hanging dihedral this is awesome gr23ish climbing, then it's on like Donkey Kong to the top. There are two completely different sequences through the crux (even using totally different holds) which both felt the same grade to me, and whichever one I preferred changed each time I got on this. The lefthand version is more powerful, but more "controllable" for me (I like shoulder moves), and suits us tallies. The righthand method is probably the only way shorties will be able to get up this.

Wed 23rd Oct 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Celebrity Crags Sharon Stone
23 Sensory Overload - with Tom Collins Sport 20m, 12 Classic
Repeat, this time placing draws. I got very, very pumped... but damn the climbing is good. Really, really steep.

Sun 13th Oct 2019 - Blue Mountains
Katoomba Area Narrow Neck Boganville Right Wall
25 Automobiles as Personality and Ego Substitutes - with Heath Black Sport 19m, 8 Very Good
2nd shot. Didn't seem too hard at the grade, but with no chalk on the crux holds, I didn't quite find the best part on the onsight attempt. I really rate the moves, but wasn't that inspired by the rock quality. Still a great climb, though.

23 Venissieux - with Heath Black Sport 23m, 9 Classic
1st go today, but I had a lap on it 6 years ago. Quite the adventure and bloody hard at the grade, but really memorable. Has more of a multipitch-esque "line of least resistance" questing vibe. Some exciting runouts at the grade.

22 All The Way May - with Heath Black Sport 11m, 5 Good
Repeat. Didn't really enjoy this one today. Just too sharp and sandy.

Sun 6th Oct 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Celebrity Crags Oliver Stone
23 Find The Positive - with Heath Black Sport 15m, 7 Very Good
Steep as, bro, though rather sharp. Surprisingly sustained considering the angle. Good fun thugging.

26 Age Against the Machine - with Heath Black Sport 17m, 9 Very Good
Came about 1mm of skin away from flashing this (with no beta for the crux itself), d'oh! Went easily 2nd shot. Probably a pretty rad steep 24, with a crux boulder that is quite a bit harder than the rest of the route, but easier if you're tall. Climbs well, though the rock is a mixed bag.

Sun 6th Oct 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Celebrity Crags Jimmy Cliff
21 22 Red Sleigh Down - with Heath Black Sport 15m, 6 Average
A few good moves in the top half, rather rubbish in the bottom half. I liked the crux move, though. Be careful mantling the sandy ledge.

Sat 28th Sep 2019 - Bungonia Gorge
North Wall - Main
25 Dark Side of a Loon - with Tom Collins Sport 85m Classic
Good to clean-up this old dog with no major issues today. An inconsequential start leads to improbably steep roof-climbing which is surprisingly easy (despite appearances), and a punchy headwall on beautiful rock. I can't wait to try the upper pitches.

Sat 21st Sep 2019 - Blue Mountains
Katoomba Area Ngula Bulgarabang/ Radiata Plateau The Egg
24 Red Demon - with Emil Mandyczewsky Sport 14m Very Good
Bungled the start on the flash attempt. Came back down, and ticked, flashing from the 2nd bolt up. I'm glad Emil had put some chalk on the top, as it's proper thin up there. Really interesting face climbing, with a rather gnarly finale.

26 Glow - with Emil Mandyczewsky, Jason Sport 18m, 9 Very Good
When I actually suppressed my hubristic temperament and decided to "work the moves" this went down quite easily. Probably not hard for the grade, but awesome technical face climbing, and surprisingly sustained. The "rose" move at mid-height is radical, as are the mono-pockets.

24 Funky Monkey - with Emil Mandyczewsky, Jason Sport 14m, 8 Very Good
Probably soft for the grade, but with no chalk on it, I still managed to pump out as a warmup. Short and thuggy but fun.

Sat 14th Sep 2019 - Blue Mountains
Katoomba Area Ngula Bulgarabang/ Radiata Plateau The Pit Sector 'Pit Fighter'
27 Mono No Aware - with Tom Collins, Jason, Ben Jenga Sport 25m Very Good
4th shot today, and a couple of laps over the last few years. In previous attempts the crux of this was miles beyond me, today -even on the first lap- it felt good. The send on the 4th lap was unexpected as I was dead tired, but found my inner mongrel and scrapped my way up it. Broken-up steep face climbing, but lots of cool moves inbetween good rests. The headwall is all-time megaarrr.

Sun 8th Sep 2019 - Blue Mountains
Mount Victoria Area Ikara, Victorialand, Odin Head, Thor Head Thor Head
25 Horse Meat Disco - with Heath Black, Aaron Jones, Dave Hoyle Sport 55m Classic
Came back to properly tick the last route of this trilogy of classics. Almost managed it as a warmup, but stalled out on some slab moves up high. No problems second shot. Long, sustained thin-ness, on generally great rock. Probably tough at the grade.

Sun 1st Sep 2019 - Blue Mountains
Bells Line of Road & Chifley Rd Bell Supercrag The Devils Circus
26 Circle of Doom - with Lucas C, Magdalena de la Torre Sport 15m, 8 Classic
EOD. Repeat attempt, not clean today. This wasn't as juggy as I remembered it Had some okay linkage and lots of fun, but couldn't remember what holds I use on the top headwall. Still classic though.

Sat 31st Aug 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Porters Pass La La Land Area
23 Legoland - with Will Vidler Sport 25m, 9 Very Good
Decided to climb the fused stemming corner to the right of this on trad (~gr21?) then finished up the last 3 bolts of this, while we waited for everything to dry out. A less drag-y way to link Shocking Pocket Monster into Legoland via a few press-out smear moves. "Generally" well-protected, but blowing the trad crux is a proper crater back to the ledge.

23 Legoland - with Will Vidler Sport 25m, 9 Very Good
Clean repeat. Linked from Shocking Pocket Monster for a larger pitch. Rope drag was hideous, necessitating back-cleaning as I went up it. Regardless of my drag-y linkup, Legoland is still mega.

22 Shocking Pocket Monster - with Will Vidler Sport 15m Good
Quite intense... for the first 4m. Some interesting moves, but more like a boulder problem than a route. I linked this into Lego Land for a ~35m pitch to make it more interesting.

Sat 31st Aug 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Porters Pass Chasing Amy Wall
23 Cutopia - with Will Vidler Sport 20m Very Good
Clean Repeat. A bit more intense than its neighbours, and thoroughly worthwhile. The flake at the top is barely attached now, be careful.

21 Chasing Amy - with Will Vidler Sport 22m Classic
Clean repeat. Damn good slabbing, a few gnarly moves at the grade.

Fri 30th Aug 2019 - Blue Mountains
Bells Line of Road & Chifley Rd Cosmic County Area Cosmic County The 39 Steps
28 Shimmering Sport 35m Very Good
TRS Cleanly as part of working the Direct Finish. Absolutely freaking nails. 100% 28 in my mind, and probably the hardest face climb I know of in the Blueys. Finished via the last bolt of Aesthetic Images to make it a bit harder.

Sun 18th Aug 2019 - Blue Mountains
Mount Victoria Area Ikara, Victorialand, Odin Head, Thor Head Thor Head
25 Horse Meat Disco Sport 55m Classic
Clean 2nd (TRS). Still had some energy left at the end of the day, so -absent a belayer- I decided to do 2 x laps on this (the 2nd one clean) for some training. A bloody brilliant route. Challenging at 25, but still easier than Raving Bull (despite this being my 4th day on!)

Sun 11th Aug 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Hat Hill Crag
23 Swallow the Fly - with hugh sutherland Sport 20m, 9 Very Good
Repeat. Absolutely mega top-half, though the lower section didn't feel too tedious today. Streno.

25 Mad Hatter - with hugh sutherland Sport 17m, 8 Classic
Along with Fedora, this is the crag classic. Quite sustained, technical, pumpy and powerful. I had a rather gnarly sequence through the crux that was quite demanding, though I could have fallen off many of the moves above it. Definitely worth your time.

22 Fedora - with hugh sutherland Sport 18m, 8 Classic
Repeat. Still a great climb, and an awesome warm-up. Stiff at the grade, methinks.

Tue 6th Aug 2019 - Blue Mountains
Mount Victoria Area Ikara, Victorialand, Odin Head, Thor Head Thor Head
25 24 I Hurt it on the Grapevine - with Lucas C Sport 50m, 18 Classic
Absolutely nails, but bloody brilliant. Usually quite spectacular rock, though some sections of choss. There were so many moves on this where I was almost off, but stayed on by the skin of my teeth. On the onsight I did the crux move as one of the most ridiculous V5 boulder moves I've ever done on rock, but later found out a smarter way of doing it via a hidden hold. Totally worthy, but very demanding.

Sun 4th Aug 2019 - Blue Mountains
Mount Victoria Area Ikara, Victorialand, Odin Head, Thor Head Thor Head
25 Raving Bull - with Heath Black Sport 67m Classic
As good as I remember, but quite tough at the grade and very sustained. The first lap was a bit humbling (in the 2nd half), but I managed to squeak through on the second lap. Unrelenting technical thinness wandering up the only line of least resistance on this part of the wall. Be sure to brush (and practice) the top slab at the end of P1... in my arrogance I didn't, and only just managed to keep it together.

Sat 27th Jul 2019 - Bungonia Gorge
South Wall - Main
25 Air Malta - with Tom Collins Sport 220m, 18 Very Good
Came back for the crux pitch. A proper mega-classic pitch in its own right, and I was psyched to dispatch this without any difficulties today (as I remember it being quite gnarly). Awesome steep jugging, with a truly radical finale pocket-and-driveby sequence with oodles of air below you.

Sat 6th Jul 2019 - Blue Mountains
Bells Line of Road & Chifley Rd Bowens Creek Main Wall Left
21 Mr Pink - with Ben Jenga Sport 15m, 5 Classic
Repeat. At the grade, this is SPECTACULAR! Perfect rock and lots of rad moves.

Sat 6th Jul 2019 - Blue Mountains
Bells Line of Road & Chifley Rd Bowens Creek Main Wall Centre
26 The Cripple Pitch - with Ben Jenga Sport 20m Classic
2nd shot. Probably not as much "fun" as 97% , but possibly a better "climb". Awesome rock and climbing after the first 3 moves. I was very worried that the pocket crux might prove low-percent for me, but didn't end up being an issue.

25 97% Fat-Free - with Ben Jenga Sport 20m Classic
Thought I could crush this straight-up as a warmup... died of flash pump. Sent soundly second shot, but damn if this isn't a bloody great sustained face-climbing pumper. On til the anchors.

Sat 6th Jul 2019 - Blue Mountains
Bells Line of Road & Chifley Rd Bowens Creek Main Wall Left
20 Kraut Pleaser - with Ben Jenga Sport 15m, 6 Very Good
Repeat. Pleasant, technical warm-up.

Sat 29th Jun 2019 - Nowra
Thompson's Point The Pocketed Wall
21 Je Baise Ma Frangine - with Tom Collins, Jason, Jason McCarthy, Jenna Brady, Ben Jenga, Mitch Perkins, Lucas C, Magdalena de la Torre Sport 12m Very Good
Clean repeat. Awesome, intense, pocket-y warmup.

Sun 23rd Jun 2019 - Blue Mountains
Bells Line of Road & Chifley Rd Cosmic County Area Cosmic County Greenhouse Gully
23 Vitriol - with Heath Black Sport 25m, 7 Very Good
Really good! Techo corner start, then punchy steep pockets and slopers to the top. Could be one of the more popular routes at the County with some TLC. Fell off on the last moves on the flash attempt, just too pumped as a warmup.

Sat 22nd Jun 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Porters Pass Sail Away Wall
26 Sail Away - with Tom Collins Sport 25m, 9 Classic
Repeat attempt. Not clean today. Only fell on the fingerlock move, and only until I remembered my particular sweet spot (that works with my giant fingers), after which the crux and the rest of the route was an enjoyable cruise to the anchors.

Sat 22nd Jun 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Shipley Upper Sandwiches Wall
22 These People are Sandwiches - with Tom Collins Sport 15m Very Good
Clean Repeat. A bloody awesome, demanding route, that makes an excellent warm-up for the harder stuff.

Sat 15th Jun 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Porters Pass Sail Away Wall
24 Black Heathen - with Ben Jenga Sport 25m Classic
Repeat, not clean today. Accidentally bungled the top crux in my haste to get up it. Whoops. Awesome rock and climbing.

Sat 15th Jun 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Shipley Upper Hot Flyer Wall
22 Lardy Lady's Lats - with Ben Jenga Sport 25m, 13 Very Good
Clean Repeat. Not quite as much fun as Hot Flyer, but featuring a harder pull through the crux. Probably not as great a warmup as its neighbour.

23 Hot Flyer - with Ben Jenga Sport 25m Classic
Clean Repeat. Even better than I remember. A great warmup, with an intriguing headwall.

Sun 9th Jun 2019 - Blue Mountains
Mount Victoria Area Ikara, Victorialand, Odin Head, Thor Head Thor Head
25 Horse Meat Disco - with Lucas C
1 24 15m lead by Paul Frothy Thomson
2 25 40m lead by Paul Frothy Thomson
Sport 55m Classic
Another great wall route in an exposed location.

Flashed P1 (placing draws, and with no inspection, but Lucas described the holds to me as I climbed, hence: can't claim the onsight), which is short but punchy and super-fun (not to mention unique for this part of the world). Not too hard at the grade.

Dogged P2, falling off a very thin move at about half height. A very sustained, varied, and engaging pitch. The dyno followed by the contortionist moves make quite the mid-route contrast as I went full-pretzel to do them. I'll definitely come back this season for the tick on this pitch.

Sat 8th Jun 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Shipley Lower
24 Sausages and Light Bulbs - with Heath Black Sport 50m, 18 Classic
2nd shot. Just a single fall (exiting the credit-card crimp sequence when I misread it) on the alz onsight attempt. No problems on the second lap. Sustained, varied face climbing on great rock. Enjoyable the whole way.

Sat 8th Jun 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Porters Pass Dogs, Cats & Apples Wall
23 Flirting With the Spanish Dancer - with Ben Jenga, Mitch Perkins, Jason Sport 20m, 9 Good
Clean Repeat. Okay climbing, but just a single hard move. Perhaps not as good as other routes on this wall.

22 Nylon Happy - with Mitch Perkins, Ben Jenga, Jason Sport 20m, 8 Very Good
Clean Repeat. A great warm-up, an a bloody great route.

Sun 2nd Jun 2019 - Blue Mountains
Blackheath Area Porters Pass Dogs, Cats & Apples Wall
24 These Apples Must Be Jen's - with Harry Kadi, Will Vidler Sport 20m, 7 Very Good
Repeat. Psyched for the EOD retro-flash placing draws despite being utterly trashed. The climbing on this is brilliant and quite sustained, the bolting is pretty average, and so many key holds creak and move and aren't long for this world. Seriously, people, a bit of 101 squeezed behind a flake is only a solution for about 5 years.

23 Legoland - with Ben Jenga, Mitch Perkins Sport 25m, 9 Very Good
Clean Repeat. I hadn't been back on this since I flashed it 8 years ago, and I didn't remember how bloody awesome this route is. Continuously good moves and rock, and quite spongy for the grade (nothing wrong with that!). I really need to climb this route more often.

FFA. Arguably one of the 2 or 3 best "short hard-ish multis" in the Blueys. P2 is mega classic, P3 is mega classic, and I'm properly stoked to have been able to help put this last pitch to rest. Intense, bouldery start leading to incredibly sustained technical, pumpy climbing up beautiful rock. I had to get noisy to link this one on my last possible attempt. Perfect conditions made a big difference

Repeat. Warm-up, aided the "crux" move to actually make it a warmup. Bloody brilliant.

2nd shot today. Still had to crank bloody hard, but it was controlled cranking. An awesome 5m stepped-roof boulder problem after oodles of complex slabbing. I really rate this route, though it's not for everyone.

26 Cobra Kai Connection - with Emil Mandyczewsky, Jason Nguyen, Ben Jenga Sport 35m Classic
3rd shot. In the style, at the grade, this is one of the better routes I've been on in the Blueys. Still room to clean up to perfection (needs more traffic), but even as-is it's just bloody great resistance climbing. Very sustained in the first half, and very technical in the 2nd. This whole wall really deserves more attention, especially as its in the shade all day!

21 The Good Life - with Emil Mandyczewsky, Gerry Narkowicz Sport 40m, 13 Very Good
Almost a classic, marred only by a reasonable amount of loose rock constituting key holds. Interesting, looooooong, non-cruxy arete climbing, with a few particularly standout moments. The finale in particular is very entertaining.

A few cool moves when you head around the arete and onto the face (not as many "buckets" as I expected, but quite a few very small crimps", but over quite quickly, and perhaps a bit contrived. Still enjoyable, though.

Amazing punchy steep face climbing, and hard to compare it to anything else in the Blueys. Like a steeper Bentrovato wall route, but on better rock... Punchy like the cruxes of Pulse/Zapt, but if the same difficulty of moves continued for 10m (rather than about 4m). The crux of this could be called "10m of madness", and feature some proper funky moves and counter-intuitive sequences. I was proper psyched to tick this after some strategic training. Getting good conditions is very key.

25 Gluten Glutton - with Stephen Varney Sport 15m, 7 Very Good
Continuing the theme of this crag: a punchy opening boulder, with much easier climbing above. Maybe not hard at the grade for the red-point. The crazy high first bolt means the rope is perpetually in the way during the opening boulder, but afterwards the rock tends to be logan-brae in style, and a pleasure to climb.

23 Strutt Your Funky Stuff - with Stephen Varney Sport 15m Good
Fell off the first move on the onsight. Didn't find the key holds (with no chalk on anything... obviously ). The start boulder is crimpy sharpness, but the finale is steep interesting on great rock. Probably not as good as linking Who the Fuck is Alice? into the anchors of this route, for the same grade.

23 Who the Fuck is Alice? - with Stephen Varney Sport 15m Good
An interesting start sequence past the first 3 bolts, then a tedious finale of ho-hum climbing. I linked this into the top of the 23 to the left of it for a better finish and easier cleaning effort.

19 Subwoofer - with Stephen Varney Sport 15m Don't Bother
An utterly nails opening boulder problem, followed by a tedious dawdle. Could be a worthy actual boulder-problem if you could be brothered bringing a mat.

24 The Diary of Ann Spank - with Heath Black Sport 15m Very Good
The better of the two 24's. A boulder start with lots of rad steep climbing above. Continuing up the flake feature 2m above the anchor (to the logical, non-rope-destroying position for the anchors) makes for a cool finish.

Showing 601 - 700 out of 2,366 ascents.
