Ascensões de Denethor

Khan's seccond outdoor multi-pitch route. The first pitch has some thin moves. The last pitch was run-out!

Adventurous day out with a torrid approach via a chossy gully.

The opening crux move is rather delicate and definitely harder than a 14. Perhaps some useful feet and hands were lost in the past fires.

Second pitch is mostly ascending an enormous flake. One day it will come crashing down, but until then the hands and feet are pretty solid, so protect as little as you are willing.

Third pitch has an easier start to the right of the belay before working back left again. The final section is runout friction slab, although the copious lichen and moss meant there was a little less friction than desired.

Nice run out to finish on pitch three.

Forgot to bring my climbing shoes... so had to do it in my approach shoes, so I didn't try to lead anything.

A memorable introduction to the Northern Slabs. Scary no-hands smear crux on p1. Also found the slab on the final pitch pretty spooky. Great gear in the middle of the climb, at least!

Excellent climb, my favorite pitch was pitch 2. Some loose stuff at the top of pitch 3 to be aware of.

Pretty good. The second pitch is quite enjoyable.

Super fun route, finished in the dark due to lots of gear faff trying to get wires into the shallow seam on P2+3 linkup! Shouldn't have bothered, most fell out...

P1 - Great 3d Problems once you get past the cheese grater start. P2 - Lesser of the 3 pitches when linked with Ivory Coast. My 3rd trad lead so happy with a new icecream grade

P1 - Awesome!!!! Super scary first 6m. rest of the pitch fun 3D climbing P2 - so so awkward leaning move to move out of the groove on left face.

An old school classic with good protection. Didn't appreciate the giant flake that came away when I pulled on it and nor did my second!

Nice route. The first nut placement made me nervous!

Recently cleaned

Combined with Ivory Coast, made for a lovely day out. Ivory Coast is beautiful albeit a bit too much lichen; it needs more traffic!

ashame about the vegetation. This a side was some great stabbing. fun moves on p1, fun moves on p2 with memorable exposure and a nice 15m run out at the end.

The plan was to climb counterbalance but we lost our bearings and ended up on denethor. Some good climbing with some scramble sections. Found it was run out on last pitch but otherwise was a great intro to slab climbing.

More of an adventure than a climb. The crux is reached straight away, protected very poorly (yet someone still cut the bolt) and this bit was wet, despite no rain for the last few days. A lot of the rest was just scrambling.

The second pitch is nice. The third pitch went alot smoother than last time, i enjoyed the slabbing. With Tony.

Did first part of Denethor and then swapped to Ivory Coast. It was a really enjoyable climb and was quite varied. Had to contend with a few bushes and it was often quite run out so I was pleased not to be leading it!
