One of the most extensive and also under-developed trad climbing areas in the NT. Best experienced as a week long camp trip. Though everything can be climbed in a day at Mothers Day.
Multiple gorges between Hayes Creek and Emerald Springs
4x4 essential. Access is approx 30-45min to a campsite approx 200m up gorge from the Mother’s Day Area. Crackhead Corner approx 200m.
Travel south down the Stuart HWY from Hayes Creek, once you hit the signposted Depot Creek do a U-Turn. Once you cross the creek again there will be a sweeping right bend with a high berm, as this berm diminishes slow down. The track in is exactly where the berm ends and you can leave the road. Follow to power line track and turn right, follow until it almost hits the rocks and turn left into trees. Follow this road ignoring any left turns till you reach Mother's Day Gorge Campsite. To get to the crag's, walk down to the gorge and head downstream. Approximately 20-30 mins to Nose to the Grindstone which is the last developed crag.
