Der Steinbruch ist ein Halbkreis von knapp 100 m Durchmesser mit stark schwankender Wandhöhe und Fels-Qualität. Er hat recht ebenen Boden, der von lichtem Wald bewachsen ist. Dort steht ein Picknicktisch mit direkt angeschraubten Bänken, drumherum dienen einige Baumstämme als Bänke. Der Platz ist kinderfreundlich.

Rechts neben dem Hauptbereich des Steinbruchs schließt sich ein kleines Halbrund an, das im Halbschatten der Bäume liegt. Die Routennamen stehen am Fels angeschrieben. Umlenker sind 2 Bohrhaken, die per Kette verbunden sind. Die Routen kann man als Toprope einhängen, wenn man gegen den Uhrzeigersinn um den Fels herum geht und den bequemen Weg mit Treppenstufen nach oben läuft.

Im Hauptteil des Steinbruchs ist der Fels senkrecht, rund 25 m hoch, hat viele lange, vertikale Risse und einen markanten, ca. 1 m hohen waagerechten Riss auf halber Höhe quer über die gesamte Wand. In diesem ist der Fels extrem bröselig, daher besser einen Helm tragen.

Die Umlenker bestehen aus 2 per Kette verbundenen Bohrhaken. Im rechten Wandteil kann man sich zwischen den oberen Umlenkern an Haken gesichert bewegen.

Die Route wird von den einen als 1-Seillängen-Route gesehen (vgl. 'duel au soleil (court)', siehe dort für Details der unteren Wandhälfte), von den anderen als 2-Seillängen-Route (diese).

Bei entsprechender Reichweite kann man die Platte mit den Haken fast die gesamte Länge über links & rechts umfassen und ausspreizen, also beide Risse nutzen. Wird nur der Riss rechts der Haken genutzt (mittlerer der 3 Risse), 6a+ und keine besondere Reichweite mehr nötig. Oben stellenweise nicht gut zu greifen i.S. etwas rundlich, teils Sloper, und etwas speckig.

Die letzten Meter vorm Zwischenstand etwas speckig. Ganz oben sind am linken und rechten Köpfchen Stände; rechts 1 Bohrhaken + 2 Plättchen ohne Kette.

Nach dem Zwischenstand kann man statt geradeaus hoch nach dem ersten Haken nach links oben über 1 Zwischenhaken (nicht im Foto-Topo, da "alleinstehende" Haken noch nicht eingezeichnet werden können) in 'duel au soleil (longe)' übergehen.

Die Route wird von den einen als 1-Seillängen-Route gesehen (Ende am Umlenker auf halber Wandhöhe), von den anderen als 2-Seillängen-Route. Da der in den verschiedenen Topos angegebene Schwierigkeitsgrad sich nicht unterscheidet, ist hier eine lange Variante eingezeichnet. Dabei geht man vom Zwischenstand auf halber Wandhöhe an einigen Zwischenhaken nach links in 'ampelopsis' - für diese Querung erlauben die vorhandenen Haken mehrere Varianten.

An den untersten 2-3 Haken für Sandstein überraschend rutschig - beim Piazzen auf Höhe des 1. Hakens die Füße bewußt so setzen, dass man sich beim ggf. Abrutschen nicht um die Knöchel aufschrappt.

Oben kann man sowohl im Riss klettern als auch - entsprechende Spannweite vorausgesetzt - die Platte mit den Haken links & rechts umfassen und ausspreizen.

Bis zum 3. Haken kniffelig i.S. man muss aus den vorhandenen Strukturen eine Lösung herauslesen - es geht sehr sauber, statisch als auch dynamisch.

Oberhalb des Wanderwegs stehen verstreut einzelne Sandsteinblöcke, -pfeiler und -wände im Wald. Ihre Markierung mit oft verblassten/abgeblätterten kopfgroßen farbigen Punkten gibt die Schwierigkeit der Routen an (vgl. Infotafel am Block A1 nahe Parkplatz; siehe Fotos) und die Routennummern sind immer mal angeschrieben. Typischerweise sind keine Haken zum Vorsteigen vorhanden, sondern man läuft von hinten auf den Fels und hängt ein Toprope ein. Als Umlenker dienen meist 2 per Kette verbundene Bohrhaken mit Ring; teilweise zusätzlich ein separates Plättchen zum Hintersichern.

Bei Regen kann man sich im Block B2 mit seinen zwei Dächern unterstellen.

Roter Sandstein, teilweise mit Kieseln, die überraschend fest verbunden sind. Nass noch recht griffig. Oft Wände mit Leisten, Löchern und Biefkästen. Einige Risse, ebenso Bäuche. Stellenweise Plattenschleicherei.

Gut abgesichert: Bohrhaken oder Laschen/Plättchen typischer Weise etwa alle 2-3 Meter. Umlenker meist 2 oder 3 Bohrhaken, die mit Kette verbunden sind, immer mal ein wenig Flugrost. Einige Routen kann man von oben als Toprope einhängen. Zum Erklären von Umbauen usw. gibt es einen Stand am Boden rechts von 'Du mou, Linette'.

Wegen Laubbäumen in der Vegetationsperiode fast nirgends volle Sonne. Eher feucht-dampfig mit viel Tau, nach Regen oft schwül. Meist eher geräumiger und teils relativ ebener Standbereich, meist Erde, oft von Dornen begrenzt.

Die Sektoren werden je nach Kletterführer sehr unterschiedlich aufgeteilt, sortiert und benannt. Damit eine Zuordnung als auch die Orientierung möglicht leicht gelingt und bei theCrag nicht übermäßig zwischen Sektoren navigiert werden braucht, sind die Routen hier pro Standbereich bzw. Felsblock gruppiert und alle Routen zu einem Sektor gebündelt, zwischen denen typischerweise gewechselt wird ohne Rucksack & Co "umzuziehen".

Der vorderste Sportkletter-Sektor, entsprechend voll. Da beide ineinander übergehen und sich einen Standbereich teilen, werden sie in der Praxis selten unterschieden. Bei Regen kann man sich bei "Courte échelle" unter ein flaches Dach hocken.
