Col de Stagn Guide

  • Grade context: FR
  • Ascents: 2

A Crag Guide gives an extensive view of all sub areas and climbs at a point in the index. It shows a snapshot of the index heirachy, up to 300 climbs (or areas) on a single web page. It shows selected comments climbers have made on a recently submitted ascent.

At a minor crag level this should be suitable for printing and taking with you on a climbing trip as an adjunct to your guidebook.

approach

Take the chairlift to Campolongo-Bec de Roces and follow the trail 636 until it splits into 636 and 637. From there, hike directly up to the base of the wall.

  1. The start of the route is marked by a metal plate as well as a bolt. The plate is not highly visible. You probably need to hike up to the base of the wall to spot it. For the first pitch, follow a mix of bolts as well as fixed pitons to the belay.

  2. Follow the bolts to the left. Make sure to find the good belay that is far to the left. Skip the bolt & fixed piton that you encouter first.

  3. Crux pitch that is very well protected. Difficulty is soft for the grade given in the guide (around 6a+ / 6b by my estimate). The pitch crosses to the right and ends on a nice ledge, surrounded by Edelweiss.

  4. Nice, long pitch with a detour to the right at the start. If you use half ropes, consider clipping the detour seperately to reduce drag.

  5. Simply very enjoyable climbing.

  6. Small ledge at the end. The belay is located a few meters from the edge to the right.

Only some of the belays are connected, and usually with not so trusty looking ropes.
