Ascensions de Remains Of The Day comme Onsight

Awesome climb. P4 felt like the crux (grade 17+ in comparison to P1). Was surprised by the Microbat popping out to say Hello at the start of P5 pockets.

Nice sustained climbing for the grade, with runouts/average gear to keep the easier sections fun. I'd say a fall on p4 is more likely than p1, with a tricky section also off the belay on P3.

Bit of a circus, with a party of 3 above our party of 4 and a late arvo start. Finished right on dusk with eerie 60m raps into the abyss.

Best grade 17 glass house multi IMO and worth 3*. 1. Remains, 2. Troposphere, 3. The Martian, 4. Zeitgeist, 5. Traxion.

Only first 3 pitches to access belly of the beast. Some super sick climbing, wow this route was actually elite. pitch 2 & 3 were mega, linked them up using half ropes for a 50m burner!

Mega link up from P2 to spooky to access overexposed. Nice engaging climbing.

Engaging climbing with enough variety to keep you entertained. Started at 1 to be in shade and finished up the 5th pitch at 4:45pm. A light sprinkle of rain was worrying as we started the 2nd, but the sky stayed clear for the ‘remains of the day’. Highlights were pitch 3 and 4, though pitch 5 was also great for mostly being trad.

This is bolted the entire way appart from last pitch where we placed 2 cams before reaching the 2 bolds and the anchor. Tag should probably be changed to mixed trad.

Falcons:

Activity seems to be originating approximately near the top of Airtime / Banished.

During P4 a falcon circled overhead a few times, paused briefly on a ledge in the chimney to check us out, then took off again. Besides this encounter they didn't seem to pay us any attention. During the 5th pitch a pair engaged in midair combat over the caves route sector!

Route

Summary: A well protected introductory trad route, similar to Blabbermouth, but in a more interesting position. SLCDs 0-4 (DMM) + medium & large wires is more than sufficient.

Descend: 2x60m will get you from the top of p5 to the top of p3, and again to the top of p1.

1. First bolt is reasonably high, but the climbing to it is quite straightforward. The crux is in the first 3 or so bolts and felt solidly 17.

2. Traverse about half-way along the ledge, then head up. First bolt is visible if you look carefully. I think this is closer to 13/14.

3. Fun moves straight off the belay with interesting chimney to follow. The top of this pitch offers a nice shaded ledge. All gear is SLCDs.

4. The stand-out pitch, in my opinion. I'll have to come back to lead this.

5. Very comfortable climbing with plenty of opportunity for placements. Wires & SLCDs.

Neat sport multi pitch, enough bolts in the right places.

It is a stiff start, definitely should have jumped on something to warm up first. Did the first three pitches

Great day out with Ben. Pitch 1 has a hard move for shorties, seconded p2 barefooted, p3 is very enjoyable with good gear in the short chimney, p4 feels slightly harder than a 16. Comfortable multi, a single trad rack is more than enough

I lead all pitches. The grades are not accurate (Most pitches sandbagged by a grade or two). Pretty cool climb with a fair bit of loose rock. Not many actual good placements along the trad parts of this route. Very hot, early start recommended

Yeah that was totally sick. All pitches have their own variety and quality. Nice exposure and cool moves. Wanted to get this in before the Falcons come. They will come soon. They were flying around scoping the area in the evening.

First two pitches were good. Second pitch has a rather exciting start.... The third anchor is looking pretty rusty but couldn’t find a better option. Third pitch I’d have enjoyed more if I had a couple of offset wires but otherwise good. Fourth pitch also rather exciting but the fifth was pretty cruisy. Nice morning out. With Phoebe seconding. .

Can be a bit mossy on the 4th and 5th pitch. Really nice line with varied climbing. Well worth it. First pitch as per Phoenix which works well so that you don't have to climb down and traverse right.

Nice route. Nothing too special, but worth doing. About 4 good placements on the whole thing, and the grades are not really in line with other routes here (eg Zeitgeist is a walk in the park compared to this 17 - even the 15 pitches on this had “moves”; possibly just the old school grades at play?).

Only managed to climb the first three pitches before retreating to make it back before dark.

Generally a fun romp broken up by the typical Tibro ledge or weirdness. Mucked up the first pitch by going too high to an anchor above and left of the ledge and had to abseil back down to the lower anchor and traverse over. Other than that no dramas. Minimal trad rack required and I daresay the entire thing could be done with about 2 cams, if sizes were chosen wisely.

Nice climb and a good adventure. The nut of the left bolt of the third anchor is loose.
