Pierce's Creek bouldering area. Some of the climbs assigned to the area are only vaguely close to what seems to be the actual area. They're better found by parking for Tumblers then walking down the side road to the left until you get to some rows of rocks which have been used to close one part of the road - keep going down that way and you'll eventually see some glimpses of rocks on your right. Alternatively you may want to just go to an easier area to find.
As for Grand Royal the boulder, it's only about 10 metres off the road - look closely for a small cairn on your left as you make your way down the road.
The Eastern Area is all state forest. It is the site of a commercial pine plantation managed by ACT Parks and Conservation Services. The area is occasionally closed during logging operations. Dates for logging operations are usually posted on the Parks and Conservation web site.
From parking for Tumblers, keep going past the entrance to Tumblers then just before you get to Playboy you find a switchback road (alternatively start from Playboy and head down that road). A fair walk gets you to the point at which the road starts turning back and you'll see a track heading uphill. Go a few metres up this track and then plunge straight into the forest and you'll find a big, exfoliating boulder 'Grand Royale'. See overview map for a more accurate idea.
Trad climbing, top roping and high-ball bouldering.
