Nice😋 climb but multipitch trad is pretty ceebs. The ratio of actual climbing to boring stuff is pretty grim.🥹😖😖😖 Perhaps I just need to get better at trad. 😊😇Harder 💪💪than a grade 10, great company💃💃🕺🕺, sucked before the sun went in the arvo, had some ✨epic ✨runouts, wasn’t sure which way to go, overhang was pretty spooky👻😟, lots of ⬆️⬆️⬆️high feet, anchors were pretty congested, confirmed that I prefer sport. ✅

13 | ★ The Knob - with Lucy | 35m | ★★ Very Good
Great climb, made up for the approach (see my earlier post). Great slabby moves up the crack and face. Gear is 'there' but somewhat fiddly and not super amazing. I protected the crux with 2x small RPs in a sliding x (one of which fell out) and a no 1 nut. Wouldn't want to whip but maybe would? Belayed off the bolts and were back at the car within 30min (10 of which including getting lost at the top). Moderately thought-provoking but I was a fan.
|
|||||||
3 | Route Two - with Lucy | 77m | Don't Bother
Possibly the worst I've ever climbed. Spent about 10 min trying to orientate ourselves at the bottom of the wall. I went up the face which I'm not sure whether it was actually a climb. Got pretty scared cause I didn't find a lot of gear. Definitely spent like an hour in the no fall zone. Wore my good (sport) shoes which were a double edged sword. I think I needed them to feel comfy on the slab but also meant that at the end my toes felt like they were gonna fall off. I don't know how hard it was going up the face as I was scared and there wasnt much gear. If I was to guess I'd say like 13-14? I was climbing bad cause of the fear of God. Serious type II fun.
Did the second pitch as a short one (5-10m) because lucy's stance in my shitty hanging belay was pretty bad (100% my fault I should've kept climbing for a little bit.) Trucked up on the jugs to gods ledge, placing gear if I remembered. |

Wet day, light rain in the morning. First pitch was wet and scary and i didn't do that cleanly (well done to Dayle to put that wire in, at about 7m run-out, while balancing on wet rock). The other pitches were better (less wet). Otherwise, a great trad route i would do again.

Set off to do Xanthene (again) but the crag was out of condition. Decided to have a go at Jerry-Pot Direct instead. This got downgraded to the usual Jerry-Pot along the way. The first pitch was quite wet and from what I could find, badly run-out, and scary. I was committed so just kept going. Rope drag was also an issue. Long slings and a single rope would have helped.

Great climb. Can do it in two pitches with a 70m rope - need to run out the pro a little to reduce rope drag. really good semi hanging belay point just below the start of the deep crack.
First pitch the climbing is easier - just need to trust your feet as there are many places without much to stand on or hold on to. Second pitch is fantastic - initial crack steepens with great holds then continues on more delicate face climbing up to big flake. This is where the climb really steps up - poorly protected move over balancy rock leads to a fantastic corner which feels really exposed. Bomber cams under this make you feel better about the big run out underneath you and another 6m run above. Rock is a bit dodgy in places so be careful where you place gear and how heavily you haul on it. |

Wonderful adventure into the prickle bushes. After a lot of shrubbery in the first pitch the route took an interesting ramble through some varied terrain. Stunning views, good comfortable belay options. Linked the first two pitches together. I found the first pitch a bit run out and protection a bit poor, the rest of the route was fine. Tried to booty a cam and a nut along the way to no avail and actually ended up losing one of my own nuts in the same crack. The climbers track is very overgrown, large trees across the track and prickly once you leave the main track. Did A bit of cairn maintenance to help other fellow travellers find their way to this cliff.
