an absolute stunner of a climb, which definitely makes up for the shit approach through the thick bush. 3 interesting pitches, P2 is super run out for sure buuuuut, its only like grade 12 so just dont look back till you make it to the ledge. khush started off well, then i finished the rest. got a nut stuck on P1 so i climbed up once we got to the bottom again, will be sure to return here, for the harder slabs PSA; Road will be open after winter!!!!!!!!

Great day out climbing! pretty fun multi, and probably my hardest trad lead to date (if pitch 1 is a gr.16). Wind was howling but just so stoked to me out on the rock again with my man Hazlid!!! camped at Honeysuckle and started way too late lol so only got in the one multi for the day. Fun cracks and slab.

Hectic bush bash in or out. Walked in from camp, found the 2nd little creek and trekked uphill from there. a few OK climbers tracks for the first half, but just pure bushbashing for the second half, just aim for the big rock!

10 ~11 Tarantella - with Tim McIntyre Trad 20m Good

The proper slab start (unprotected until you get to the crack) deserves a more difficult grade, particularly for leading. Tim did a few moves on lead, bailed, did an easier start to the right and traversed back to the route. The slab start is practically blank with only the tiniest crystals to work with. Fun crack/slab combo climbing throughout, an awkward finish with a poorly protected traverse topping out into a steep wide channel between two rocks.

I am happy to have had an opportunity to climb/second this route, but I will probably never repeat it or lead it. It's great fun, but it feels like the flake that makes the main crack for this climb is not long for this world. It's incredibly hollow and moved slightly with the touch. Even if the whole thing doesn't come off, it feels like sections of it could. 90% of the protection for this climb goes behind the flake. It just doesn't seem worth the risk.

12 ~13 Cocolossal - with Tim McIntyre Trad 15m Average
Faith Meckley
Off-width crack at the bottom with very few options for feet outside the crack, eventually narrows into a hand crack with more solid foot holds outside the crack. Don't be like me - learn off-width technique before tackling this climb. I must have spent at least a half an hour flailing on the first few metres of off-width, thankfully I had a very patient belayer. Once I broke out of the off-width it was fairly smooth sailing for me until the top section. I used my first ever double-fist jam.

I ended up topping out left on the finish for Breakaway instead of right for Cocolossal. I was exhausted from wrestling the crack and didn't feel I had it in me for the roof. The off-width had also eaten my big cams and the roof looked like it needed some. The layback finger crack on a slab finish for Breakaway is much more pleasant than it looks from the ground - however the top out is deceiving. I assumed the top of the boulder was just around the corner, but when I came around the corner I found myself awkwardly straddling a saddle with a couple metres of thin crack and slab still to go. Having missed the rap rings at the top of Cocolossal due to my alternate finish, we walked off.

If I ever come back, I would be keen to lead Breakaway, which looks far more pleasant overall. Maybe once I learn off-width technique I'll try Cocolossal again and lead it in under an hour.

We were a bit lost, no internet, hadn't seen any evidence of climbs all day until I spotted the shiny bolts on this guy. Then old mate Delaney managed to figure out where we were. So I though it would be good to climb this route that helped so much. We thought it was a different climb but still. Hard first 2 moves for the grade then a romp-a-saurus to the top. Anchor gear a bit fiddly

dog city baby! but was still the highlight of the trip! maybe stiffer shoes and the knowledge that i won't die will help next time. first 8 meters is wild and tough - after that its a cruise nation finish which is hands down my fav way to finish any climb, not to mention pops you out on anchors above pas de deux to make all your tr dreams come tru!

omglob the runout on pitch 2 - like yes its fine but it's most certainly don't fall climbing. and then the wall behind was equally as unprotected with just some dodgy cracked flakes for gear. harder climbing than the slab with way more fall potential. the final pitch of sickle was sick. sad but also stoked Tom handed me the sharp end. One tough move into the crack and then it was 'jam your way to the hearts of millions' (another fav way to finish a climb)

Serious start followed by interesting moves up the rest. Nice lead from Shubh. Less about hand-jams and more about feet. Will take wires most of the way up if you take your time to find the placements. Anchors are quite far back at the top - take static/long slings if anyone is planning to top-rope.

About 45 minutes in to our epic bush bash, I was starting to question whether it was all worthwhile... But fear not, this route was fabulous and we had an awesome day out!

I combined P1 and P2 into one classy mega pitch, which works with about 2 m spare on a 60 m rope. This might just be the cowardly millennial in me, but I would personally say P2 is X-rated. From the gear at the top of P1 (about 25 m up), there is absolutely nothing until you reach the top of the main slab (couple of small, slightly suspect wires in little scoops by a bush) and then nothing for the last 8 m up to the finish. A slip on the thick moss and lichen higher up would potentially end in a ~50 m groundfall, so take your time and make sure you are fully committed before setting out. P3 (led by Shub) also has no gear above the starting finger crack, but here the surficial vegetation was a bit thinner and you'd only end up hanging on the slab below. Kudos to Bridget for keeping it together on her first multi-pitch!

For approach notes, we didn't have much luck with the ones posted above and took at least an hour going in from the track (the bush in the second half is much denser than the first). We did better on the way out and here's some potentially useful way-points to get you in from the trail:

  1. Start where the track crosses a creek (-35.5893438, 148.9687538). This is the second major creek that it crosses as you walk in from Honeysuckle campground.

  2. Walk up the creek (stick to the higher ground on left or right side at the beginning) for quite a while until you reach a point around (-35.5920948, 148.9717961).

  3. Turn right uphill for ~100 m until you reach a big boulder with two small rocks perched on top (-35.5929617, 148.9717592). From here, you should be able to see Sickle up through the trees. Head uphill as straight as possible towards it through the worst of the scrub. Whole thing will likely take at least 45 minutes from the track.
