East Zobolo

Fixed Gear: Corroded material in main sectors

Due to the age of the area (first routes established in 2009), exposure to a maritime environment and the material used in this area, it looks like future bolt failures might be a possibility. Many - if not all - the routes we looked at in the sectors "Aspra", "Ekpedeftikes", "Protos Tihos" and "East Zobolo" showed signs of corrosion on the rock, on bolts, nuts and/or hangers. From the markings of the nuts it is evident that at least on some occasions, stainless steel A2 was used, which is deemed inadequate for maritime environments.

I posted three example pictures:

I assume the new sectors "KOTRONI" and "Lykogremo" are not (yet) affected, whereas I don't know the state of "Hioni".

I noticed Climb Zobolo of this issue.

Stay safe out there!
