Ascents in Smith Rock State Park

i think this was one of my first leads

First climb in Smiths, what an intro to the rock here. Not sure if I like or hate finger pockets.

Just managed it fourth go of the day and last go before the snow was coming in. It felt quite hard after a year of bouldering. I think I spent maybe four days on it and had a number of goes somewhere in the mid to high teens. The shot before I sent ended with me not quite catching the clipping jug at the anchors, peeling off backwards, and whipping the entire route having skipped the last bolt. Exciting! I hopped back on soon after because i’d hurt my ankle a bit hitting the wall and didn’t want it to stiffen up. Classic scenes in the park.

We are going to buy an extendable pole after the stupid start of this with crux before first bolt that is 6m off ground

Intermittent showers

Stupid bolting, sharp rock, and dirty. Rated as above average in gUide

Silly high 3rd bolt with ground fall potential seems quite common here. Another route down as above average that is pretty ordinary

Down as a must do 4/4 star route. The top is ok, but not liking these routes much

Drawing up ring of fire, not that it helped me. This climbs ok

More stemming-and laybacking

Super crack area.

These grades seem quite sandbagged. Not as sustained as badfinger

Demoralised by getting on this as a warm up. Barely squeaked through on second. Apparently I should stem more

Pathetic at stemming boxes. I suck. Probably classic if you like this type of thing

Average climbing and speed aid by going draw to draw with no ets, but a nice feature to get to the top of

A nice line and committing up top

Memorable due to the spaced bolts and tiny pebbles that you expect to explode

I don't recall this route at all and apparently a key jug broke making it harder, and feel run out

Better than phoenix

Honestly, this route doesn't rate. Go to the basalt.

Maybe the heat was frying my brain, but I would rather be on the pocketed wall at nowra

At least it was shady

Sustained crux section, really good
