Pack with 2nd 60m (to allow rap retreat) was something of a hinderance. Loose rock was most notable on pitch 4, but was here and there on most pitches. Other than FHs, used only x2 slings on pitch 3. Long or alpine draws suggested for pitch 5.
Descent via Caves Route (x5 rappels). For 1st rappel x2 60m used with EDK as uncertain about length of descent, however now know one 60m rope is (just) sufficient. Also stuck rope required ascent and retrieval on completion of this 1st rappel (at CR chimney).
Approx 5 hours to ascend. Approx 2.5 hours to descend, which includes some stooging around in cave 5 and lost time with stuck rope.

Perfect day out, car to car in 5hrs which meant Will didn't have to skip his prior commitment of kayaking in the brown snake with Riverlife. Linked pitches 2/3, 4/5, 6/7. Pitches 4/5 needed about 22 draws which was unfortunate given we had a total of 18. Awesome climbing the whole way but needed a lot of slings to reduce drag when linking pitches. Didn't love the unroped scramble up from the top of pitch 8 to caves but otherwise a solid day out.

Very fun climb, the traverses are great. Engaging enough to be interesting but nothing too hard to worry about. It's mostly a sport climb with occasional gear on p1-p2. A single rack is more than enough, or even just a set of nuts and a few small cams up to #2 would do.

Climb 27 of 50. A really great climb! Felt more like an 18 than a 20. Not sure which was the crux pitch, but Kate and I both felt that pitch 2 was the crux. The only disappointing aspect of this route is that we literally only placed 1 cam (pitch 1 start), and 1 nut (pitch 3). I missed the trad placement on pitch 2, but Kate said there was a nut placement there. It seems silly to cart an entire rack up for 2 or 3 placements. In my personal opinion, if this route had two or 3 more bolts, it would be a really popular fully bolted sport route. Alas, I think people are put off by the "Mixed Trad" status, and the assigned grade of 20, and therefore this route doesn't see the traffic it deserves. I feel it's a grade 18, or 19 at most. Anyway, perhaps the first ascentionists would be amenable to a retro-bolt ;-) Ha ha. Definitely worth doing this climb again.

Quite a crazy looking pitch of climbing! Certainly longer than photograph's I'd seen made it appear. Great mix of jamming, stemming, and weird arm bars while you shake out your claves. The crack didn't feel like a 20 to me, perhaps closer to 18/19. I felt the hardest one or two moves were exiting the crack at the top as you step out onto the face. Rock quality within the crack was generally decent. Several portable holds on the faces either side, however. Medium - large wires and hexes were my primary protection. Plus small - medium cams.

A nice pitch of climbing with solid rock. Hangers are decently spaced but where you need them. Didn't see any placements on this pitch, but didn't feel the need for any gear. Went past the actual anchor for this pitch and belayed from the top of the second last pitch of Ross Miller Route (up and left). This made exiting via Blabbermouth easier. | 220m, 6 | ★★ Very Good | ||||
A great day out with Alex! Hopefully we'll get a few more in before he racks off to Canada.
Overall a fun, well protected route with a great crux pitch and smatterings of questionable rock throughout. Started up pitch 1 around 9am, topped out around 1pm. Didn't bother with the last pitch. Descent via Blabbermouth. Gear Wires & hexes (DMM 1-3) Cams: 00-4 (DMM). Doubles 0-3 if you want, and I reckon you could fit a 5 in there too. |

P6 was the real standout, very nice crack with plenty of gear placement. A single rack is probably sufficient, having 2 cams each in the smaller sizes would make life very comfortable. The remaining pitches are alright, sparsely bolted but the bolts are there when you need them. We couldn't find how to get to SB/Blabbermouth so had to rap off Caves route instead. This took much longer than rapping off those routes and we had to walk back to Candy Mountain to grab stuff we left at the base.

We were very brave to do this in mid summer as a party of 3 but it worked out fine and was a lot of fun. Started at 7am via first 2 pitches of Blabbermouth and got back to ground around 1pm. The crux pitch is quite committing but there are enough good holds to work with, great lead by Scott! Start of p2 is fairly stiff for the first 2 bolts. Linked p2 and p3, a 60m rope is just enough, with 2m of rope to spare. A single rack for the first 2 pitches of Blabbermouth is sufficient, I placed only one cam on p3

Great moderate route that leads up a particularly cool corner (p4). A good few moments with nice exposure but never scary. All cruxes are very well (too well?) protected so if 19 is a tough grade for you, go for it. Did it in 5 pitches by easily linking pitches 2&3, 5&6, 7&8. Back clean, use slings and skip bolts on easy terrain and the rope drag is never bad.

A 70m single rope will allow you abseil each pitch without issue. We started climbing the variant start at around 0715 and topped out around 1045 and were back on the ground at 1145.
Big thanks to Angie for taking me up and for being great company! Pitch notes:
Thanks to the developers for the time, effort, and money that went into making Blabbermouth what it is: an excellent introductory mixed multipitch. It's a route I expect I'll enjoy many times, and gives me the confidence to tackle others! |

Great day shared with two epic ladies!! Quite a nice line, gives a very sanitized experience of adventure climbing. Led 1-2, 7-8. Finished by going straight up from the anchors.
Great to meet young Kayden and watch him send caves route at age 9 with Jay on the way down! |

Originally planned to do Blabbermouth, but changed plans midway through p2. Only brought 10 draws, but it solved the rope drag issue pitches 2 and 3 link nicely
Techy climbing on what I thought was pretty solid rock. Rachael thinks it’s only a 19 (or maybe she’s just getting strong) but definitely soft for the grade… if you can climb for 50m+ Definitely worth a lap. The chains on some anchors are rusting, but it’s all surface rust at the moment, they should have a couple years left in them. |

Super fun climb! Brought up a #3 Friend but really didn’t need it. Placed it just for fun. Slung the two trees on the way up pitch 3 to help with runout section. Stay right of arête to avoid questionable rock on pitch 4. Traversed over to cave 5 to climb after pitch 7 then rapped down caves route. Awesome way to spend #globalclimbingday! 😍

Really long 1st pitch
We used double ropes and I wish I extended more of the draws at the start still had a fair bit of drag by the anchors
Between the 2nd last and last draw the rocks crumbly snapped off a crimp
Used all 14 draws Climbed first two pitches of sunburnt Anchors are looked pretty rusted with the old gal chains on stainless hangers and all the mallions are rusted |

Began climbing the first pitch at approximately 9:00am and reached the final belay station at exactly 12:30pm. Instead of the exit methods proposed by the route description, we exited by rappelling from the final station into cave 5, which was fast enough though one could certainly walk it unprotected quite safely. From there we rappelled to the ground via Caves Route & Zeitgeist. As far as I could tell, the unprotected top out would have been more than safe, appearing no steeper / technical than West Track (Tourist Track).
Needless to say it was very hot being mid February and I would probably recommend waiting for winter or begin before dawn. In any case, bring sufficient water. Overall the climb was quite enjoyable, albeit nothing particularly special. In my opinion the ratings of the harder pitches are a bit steep, I would say Ross Miller Route is no more demanding than Troposhere. My next run up the route will be at night to avoid the sun. Regarding pitches: P1: I imagine it would be an awkward start if you were shorter than 6', otherwise a pretty straightforward pitch. Very closely bolted. P2: Nothing special, go left of the trees once you reach the ledge, anchor is obscured by them. P3: Unprotected but very simple climbing, I just slung the trees (first felt like it would pull out if you fell on it). Only thing to note: Traverse right before passing the second tree, lest you have to backtrack to avoid the rope drag like I did. P4: Probably the pitch with the nicest view on the route. Very closely bolted, the first is within reach at the belay station (didn't notice it until after beginning the ascent). P5: Standout pitch for me, tied for most enjoyable climbing on the route with P7. Very closely bolted. So much so that I skipped several I simply didn't see. P6: Well spaced, nondescript slab climbing around some scrub. P7: Standout pitch for me, fun moves up to the left immediately after the belay. Closely bolted. P8: Well spaced, nondescript slab climbing, more interesting than P6 only in that it's longer, steeper, and you get to have a quick peek into Cave 5. Beware the occasional loosely attached blocks / hollow flakes up the route. |

Enjoyable climb, the harder pitches are quite nice and very well protected. As some other people mentioned, be careful when pulling the ropes when you are in p2 anchor, as there are many places the rope can get stuck on. 4h30min from car to car.
