Ascents in Hillwood (private land) by Scott Godwin

Best route at Hillwood.

Not sure if I really earned the full grade. Climbed half a metre right of the bolt through the roof. I think the 'proper' line goes slightly left of the bolt. Whatever. Still nice techy slabbing up to there.

Surprisingly awesome. Consistent, thought provoking moves the whole way.

Bizarre moves around the block thing at the top. Probably not really any harder than the 20 to the left.

Had a play on top rope. Figured out most of the moves, but I definitely don't have the crimp endurance to link them at the moment.

Still nowhere near enough crimp endurance for this one.

Went up after Nate had nice gear ripping fall from the steep top bit. Really cool climbing. Couldn't stick the move at the second bolt. Did all the rest of the moves. Pretty sustained, with some hard moves traversing back to the right above the trad gear to get to the last bolt, then some steep and pumpy trad protected climbing at the top. The gear is good though. One to come back to for sure.

Climbed to fouth bolt but couldn't make the clip. Took a couple of slightly awkward falls from there and ended up with sore ribs from my harness. The climbing felt ok though, just need to work out that clip.

First time back on this since june. Figured out the cruxy bit near the second bolt. Just need a bit more fitness to put it all together.

Took turns working it on lead with Nate until I was completely stuffed. He's much closer to doing it than me, but it didn't quite happen this time. I think I have a good sequence now. Must remember the little footers out left.

Puzzling moves at the start, and really nice sustained face climbing all the way to the anchors. I like these mixed gear routes.

Stupid shoulder feeling pretty flakey again. Nothing hard for me today.

Gravity feels very strong today after three weeks off climbing.

Cold fingers and flash pump. Presumably this has been retrobolted. There are four or five bolts in it now.

Top roped after Laura's lead attempt. Managed to do it clean without really using my injured right side.

Onsight all the way to the anchors, but couldn't let go to clip them and jumped off onto the last bolt. I have no endurance. Shoulders felt pretty good though.

About 8 laps on toprope afterwards. Totally cooked afterwards.

Harder than it looks. I think I did all the moves. Should be linkable next time if I can remember what to do.

Warmups.

Clean on about the fourth try today, once I remembered where all the holds were. I don't think this is 23. Its certainly hard to onsight, because the holds are all hidden sidepulls, but the moves are no harder than 21 or 22.

The crag says I'd been on this before, but I think I had it confused with the one to the right. Really good climbing. Blew the tricky footwork at the crux and fell, then clean to the top. Too pumped to make much headway on the second go.

Did a couple of top rope laps since Banjo had already put the rope on it. High gravity day today.

Bad choice for a warmup. Just like everything else here, the holds are all invisible sidepull things. Got to the third or fourth bolt and couldn't find a way past it. Mike figured it out. Next time.

Another lap with Mike. Finally found a better way to clip the anchor.

Top roped because the rope was there. Should have gone for the onsight instead. Nice climbing.

Putting the rope up for Emma. Tired after doing a couple of laps on Wrath or Revival. Grabbed the draw to clip the anchor.

I wanted to clean this one up after flashing it on toprope the other day. Climbed clean all the way to the last bolt, then thanks to my crap memory for beta I forgot that there was a huge jug up there to clip from. I managed to get the draw on then faffed around for ages getting pumped on crappy sideways slopers before pulling on the draw. Annoying.

Slipped off a sidepull at the end of the crux.
