Epic day out, the pictures don't do it justice, the stegosaurus back description is extremely accurate for the middle section. The rock is incredibly formed and has perfect jugs absolutely everywhere you need them, none of the up/downclimbing is at all difficult due to this, although it is very exposed.
The last third of the traverse is absolutely awesome with some sick bouldery sections on amazing jugs. At one point we reached a boulder that Greg straddled to get over while Jack traversed over while Jack awkwardly squeezed under. I opted for the straddling beta as it looked too fun, even more fun was Greg and Jack panicking and yelling that the boulder was moving a lot, which I assumed was them taking the piss until they said it a couple more times that I probably had a pretty priceless expression as I carefully got off what I now know from old logs as the *rodeo boulder" apt name. Bush bash to the car. |

This route came highly recommended to me by Phil Box as being one of the best day hikes he'd ever done, and it did not disappoint! All three stars are very well deserved.
We were a group of five, and took as many hours car to car at a leisurely pace. Four hours return is a good estimate if you don't plan to pause long for breaks or pitch out the exposed section as we did. I'd recommend continuing toward the ridge in the direction you breech the tree line, rather than turning right. The scrambling is very straightforward and not grade 5-6 as the description suggests, in my opinion. There are only four down climbs of note, none are difficult and I wouldn't suggest they need any tatt. We chose to carry a rope, but only pulled it out to protect the traverse around Rodeo Rock. It was just as well we did, as one of our members blew a seemingly bomber hold and would surely have hit the deck without it. Do you need a rope? Probably not. The moves aren't at all difficult, but the exposure won't forgive a slip. |

Great adventure! Truly like climbing along a stegosaurus’ spine!! Exciting position, mostly straight forward scrambling with a few thought-provoking sections. The best climbing is in the second half of the full traverse - it is worth going along the whole length. There is some exposure but we felt comfortable throughout unroped and in approach shoes.

Great day out! If you're taking someone new to scrambling and exposure expect to take longer than 3 - 4 hours. We took 6hrs car to car. Used the rope twice, once at the down climb where the sling is (obvious block seemed a bit loose so used something a bit further back). Lowered partner and then down climbed myself. Second time was over the oft mentioned block. Easy moves, but lots of exposure. Scramble definitely gets more exciting towards the back end. We descended the obvious gully near the end. Continued straight on, skirting/scrambling over the rocks on our right into a clear patch. This was the heaviest scrub, then linked up open sections back to the start. Always stay high if in doubt to avoid the thick scrub.

Epic epic epic! One of the coolest routes I’ve done!
With a fair bit of frothing/time for photos, Paul and I took approx 3.5 hours car to car. The first 1400ish metres are pretty straight-forward, more hiking than climbing, but then it kicks into some pretty epic exposure after that! There are some interesting/thoughtful/committing moves over very exposed terrain that less experienced parties may want to consider bringing a rope for. Felt harder than a 3 in places, maybe more towards the 6-8 grade towards the end of the traverse going by soloing comparisons to Mt Macedon, Tip toe ridge at Arapiles or Freeway in the Flatirons. |

Took a beginner up here without ropes, leaving a bit late in the day due to the fact it had been raining and we only had this particular opportunity to climb it before leaving.
We took headtorches with the plan that, surely at grade 3 we'll be able to continue in the dark if we are too slow. However it turned out to be a bit slippery from the rain and quite difficult and risky for a complete novice, resulting in us moving very slowly and getting stuck up the top in the dark. We used a space blanket and sheltered behind a rock to avoid some of the wind, and waited out the night. The next day, we were able to slowly make our way through to the end, with parts near the end feeling more exposed and technically challenging than the earlier stages of the climb, with parts feeling around grade 6 to me, which were a serious undertaking for my partner. Overall it was an excellent route, but next time I will definitely be more prepared, and give more respect to each route, even when it has such an easy grade. |

We climbed this originally because greg wanted to up his km count on his crag profile. The benefit in the end was that everyone was stoked to bumo their km account on thecrag. Turns out we are a bunch of social media whores. After being inspired by darrens campfire stories at balor, greg yim and i bivvied in the campsite at kaputar. Despite a no falls trip in the bungles, will tripped and got himself a couple flappers, i fell over while walking and greg almost capsized a huge floating boulder. Despite these 'ground falls', were calling it sends all round. Beauty views, horrifying winds and some decent exposure paired with some juggy scrambling reminiscent of araps. The guide said this was like climbing a stegosaurus' back. Yim: 'yeah! The boys climbed steak sauce'. Stop making us all hungry mate.

One of coolest thing I’ve done so far and my first alpine style route. The climbing sections are of course easy but classic with some great exposure at times and the scrambling and hiking is great fun too. ~30mins to reach the tree line at a moderate pace and 4-5 hours to complete the route (one party member felt a bit unsteady over the rougher sections so we took our time). Could be done faster.
We roped up for the sketchy down climb mentioned in the description but also for another section late in the route which involved a very exposed although short section around a precarious boulder. I went over the boulder but it wobbled badly so the rest of the party took the more exposed route down around left of it. I would strongly recommend the left route and consider roping up. |

Following the ridgeline was awesome, with funky textured rock and amazing views even on an overcast day. Mostly straight-forward hiking with some more exposed sections of scrambling to keep things interesting. No definite track to get back but the bush isn't thick and is easy to walk through.

Hike up to the true summit is easy and straight forward, although afterwards there are some tricky areas where a rope would come in handy (some downclimbing, and some pretty exposed traverses). The way back to the trail was not as bush-bashy as expected, follow the rock and there is not much bush to bash through. Took us about 30-40mins to get from the end of the ridge back to the trail.

The rock on this traverse is varied and amazing, the exposure is massive in places. We had Georgia (10 years) and Henry (8) with us so we roped up for the second harder half and essentially simul-climbed it. This slowed us down A LOT but was essential with young climbers, I am a very proud parent as they both handled the exposure, rope management and climbing well. We did the full traverse and walked out through the crater below. It is well worth the effort.

Not sure about giving this amazing traverse a grade 3. There's a little bit of down climbing to descent the main summit that needs attention and overall exposure for someone new to climbing or simply wants to 'hike' this route can be intimidating. We climbed it North to South and it took a little bit of time to descend Mt Yulludunida as we weren't sure once where to go down. Always found a way though. Maybe a short rope and a harness wouldn't go amiss if you are unsure about your or your party members feelings on exposure..
Car park to the start part of the travers took us an hour but we were pushing hard to make the sunrise. On the way down the counted 600+ steps... And that's just to the base of the traverse... There's also a little scramble to just the top of Mt Yulludunida and back which covers a pretty fun part of the traverse if you are short on time or not keen on the whole thing. Definitely do it! Choose a dry and non-windy day though |

Yay! Fun day out! If you have a 60 or 70m rope you can do it in two pitches. Enjoy!

Sick scramble getting chased from the rain and high winds, met some goats on the bush bash back, some scary sections but happy to have mountain guide Yim showing the way

Awesome way to finish the day. Just reached the tail end of the climb as the sun was setting. 2- 1/2 hours car to car.
