Ascents in Lindsay Rock Tops by Vanessa Wills having trad-cpr or ascent-date

I’m a pretty hopeless red pointer, but this project piqued my interest.Every moment figuring out the moves and linking them together has been a pleasure, in such a beautiful place. Seeing the bush spring back after the fires of last year is incredible. Earlier in the day, when I was 8 m up, and Dave on the ground, a wedge tail eagle pursued by a currawong did some proximity flying between us, about 2m out from the cliff.

Another 2 goes. Did second crux twice, which is the low probability move for me. On second go was through the third crux on lead when an edge crumbled and I came off, though the 4 th crux will be the heartbreaker I reckon. Hope the cool conditions continue.

3 separate days, maybe 5 attempts. All but half a move done, and clean again to top of pedestal. Linking it all together is another thing.

Best effort to date. Did all clean except 2m in the middle that still requires a solution

Another 2 goes. Tempted to put a maillon on bolt at 15m At 25, and leave the rest as extension. Holding most positions but downward facing slopers make it hard to move upwards.

I feel like I needed the anchors lower, after the grade 26 bit......

Rpt, didn’t have wires with us. Fun route.

Needed a rock to stand on to reach opening holds. Bouldery start, then into nice crack. Would be good to finish up P2 of Namoi Carp Muster.

FFA. Great second pitch, mostly grade 21 with 2 cruxy bits that felt 25 for me, but failing on lead, dave could do both cruxes quite differently to my sequences and got the tick, I seconded the 25 way.....great rock for Kaputar

FFA. Hadn’t really Sussed gear during mammoth brushing session, So carried a double rack which really weighed me down through start. Nice climbing.

FFA. The lower half was really good. Had to sort short persons beta going into undercling roof. Hand crack straight forward, but still engaging to anchors. Striking line.

A bit easier after a clean, some more gear found but rather fiddly eg wires in horizontals and still run out between second and third bolt

Extraordinarily wet and dirty, but still doable. The old bolt is an 8 mm rusty Loxon. Chain anchors off to left. Nice hold and generally good rock, and would be a worthwhile top rope or bold lead when dry ( with a replaced bolt)

Unlocked more beta that gets me to the rooflet more consistently and fresher. Psyched.

Couple more goes. Getting the 25 start now every time. Refining beta in the middle. Trying not to pump out at the end.

A battle to the death. Dave only thinks it's 22.

Added an extra bolt after the FA so people wouldn't struggle with a non obvious Red TCU placement mid crux. Nice steep arête moves on solid dishes

FFA. Nice thin crack, mostly face climbing with gear in crack, quite steep when trying to fiddle #1 and2 RPs.

Some hard moves down low, but may have been the dirt interfering with my boots

Would feel easier if bolted, but the gear is all there, and the moves are good. Over by 2/3 height but with the current flu, I was happy to have a slab to finish on

FFA. With Dave, post bolt placement. Agreed it's only 22 as at present I can barely breathe with influenza.

With Ryan, quite dirty, but well worth the effort

Pretty nice climbing up finger crack into dihedral. Someone had clearly launched up this hoping it was a sports route and bailed at the second bolt

Tricky overhung stemming in the middle.

Nice varied climbing on good rock. Although small wires are fiddle, it feels well protected

Nice climbing, the top thirds gear is suboptimal, though not hard, then scramble up to tree. Thought it was a FA due to the cleaning required, but aplenty done by Anthony Brennan a couple of decades ago

Back on after what feels like a year. I had forgotten everything, but managed all moves on the 25 part second go to 2/3 height. After that mostly aid.

Airy climbing, especially for the leader. Some tricky slab moves

I could only find one cam placement. Seems stupidly run out and anchor not useful to top rope. Good water washed rock but very dirty as a consequence. I will try and find the man and see if I can at least redo anchors.

Delicate and technical, my beta is quite different to Dave’s due to reach differences. Just have to remember it.... it involves going further right and a small foot pebble.

Only for the hard core adventure climbers. Gear not obvious, a bit loose and dirty. The start was fun. Maybe do that and then continue up Fingernicker.

Good moves, but a grounder at the crux without a bolt.

Rptsmall wires needed to adequately protect. Find it harder of the two.

This was a reminder that abseil inspection rather than a ground up approach is the saner option...the post fire appearance made it look ok, but it wasn’t.

A couple of goes, can get to small ledge at half height at about grade 25 and up 2 bolts from there. Then it gets harder.

Terrifying on not obvious gear ( even with the FA telling me). Psychologically scarred after 3 shallow TCU placements in a row and slumped on third bolt after surviving. Came back down and went through to top. Did not pull rope.

With the twin cracks I needed 8 arms to clean the gear.

A bit dusty still after 3 major brushings, but well featured rock, nice moves and keeps the best to last

Just had to be done, said Dave. Well we did it so no one else has to suffer. Horrendous. Beware white/orange rock at Kaputar.

Good varied climbing and gear. Double rack from 0.3 to # 4 and a #5 gives plenty of options. The block over the start didn’t budge, but in geological time it is going to be falling probably in my lifetime, so make your own decision. Easy to avoid it and start as for CS.
