Ascents in Shimmy Sheister Buttress

Took turns to work it with Dave and Phil. None of us could find a solution to the last section above the third bolt. Way harder than it looks from the ground.

Nice climb. Unusual features keep ya guessing, and the crux up top is pretty bizarre.

All over the place today. Slabbier loving shoes may help..?

Felt good up until the 2nd bolt was 1.5 meters left of me, a little funky with groundfall potential at 2nd bolt, suggest pre hanging an extended sling to make life more pleasant

Tried leading but stumped at third bolt. Despite trying every permutation, including as pictured in the guidebook I could not get the reach to the key hold. Every other move done, though often with twice as many moves as Dave needed, including a technical start for the short! Great name.

Foot slipped while laybacking, which mangled my fingers which were still in a lock in the crack. Turned the lead over to Dave. Clean on second. Pretty straightforward fingerlocking and laybacking.

One awkward spot. Again, very short. Nice finger crack.

Pumped out on the ledge after finger crack and fell. Hah. Got it second go

Grovel up a flared groove with finger crack in deep

The clouds disappeared, then it got hot.

I keep doing V grooves in the hope I might like them but I don’t think I ever will…
