Ascents in Sandy Caves

Quite a cool little easy balance problem. No climbing shoe needed.

Enjoyed this Boulder. Cool couple of hangers.

Now looking back at the route I went up and right of the hanging nipple. Was a couple of nice jugs but not a v4. More like a v2. Will have to have another go at gritty titty and re look at the route I took as a possible first accent.

Good fun, especially the mid cave flip, and exit mantle.

Did laps to try different methods.

A nice bit of tension, for a lowly hacker like me.

Always enjoy this boulder. Lots of fun hanging moves.

Got the bottom moves worked out. Struggled with the final top out move. One to work on.

Looking forward to nailing this route. Some cool moves and a tad bit of arm pump.

Quite difficult to nail the mid-cave flip.

Warmup for Taken From Behind. Got it in one.

Got it first go. Too easy when fresh, and knowing where to plonk my hooves.

Took me about 6 shots befor I found a pretty obvious heel hook that made the move a lot easier.

Easy climb but would be a dicey fall down the sand paper walls.

Err, sort of - dabbed on random rock to side to quickly dodge incoming tide water during sit-start..

Rough surface. Almost worked out last move before slicing through index finger, had no tape with me, so moved onto more slope'y things..

First half is really nice balance'y palm-press slab mantle thing on solid-enough ~rock. Took many (10-15?) attempts to get the movement. Second half felt very committing - quite high up standing on sloping gritty ledge, pad occluded from view by the angle, and holds become a combination of large barely-compacted-sand blocks and loose pebbles (felt fairly secure carefully using the backs of the largest chunks to get up, but pretty sure none of them would take much weight). Hard to be sure of grade - the mantle is probably high V2ish but given the commitingness of the second half then V3 seems reasonable

So much fun. Reminds me of an easier version of Flash Gordon.
