Summary

The main climbing area at Pierces Creek with a number of excellent crack climbs up to 15m.

Description

The Eastern Area covers the granite outcrops between Laurel Camp Road and Murrays Hill. These are the highest outcrops at Pierces Creek with a number of climbs up to 15 meters. Climbs tend to follow cracks and range in difficulty from 19 - 23.

Access issues

The Eastern Area is all state forest. It is the site of a commercial pine plantation managed by ACT Parks and Conservation Services. The area is occasionally closed during logging operations. Dates for logging operations are usually posted on the Parks and Conservation web site.

Approach

The easiest way to navigate the Eastern Area is using a smart phone or tablet running google maps. Because of the poor reception it is best to set up offline mapping prior to venturing into the area. There are a number of logging tracks and fire breaks that run east from Laural Camp Road to within a short walk of most outcrops. The condition of these varies depending on logging operations. As of early 2019, Blackwater and Kazbah could be accessed by 2WD. Matricide could be accessed by 4WD or on foot from Blackwater.

Ethic

Trad climbing, top roping and high-ball bouldering.
