Ascents in Launceston (Cataract) Gorge

Flailed my way about 3/4 of the way up.

Fought hard. Could not work out a way through the top section

Unsend. Turns out that a month of climbing big walls followed by six weeks of sitting on your arse eating custard is not a good way to maintain finger strength.

Tried to go ground up but got completely shut down by the high step/rock over move at the crux. Aided through and had a few goes on top rope, but still couldn't manage it. Doable by reaching out left into Roxanne, but that seems like cheating.

Felt like I was going to deck reaching for the second bolt so got scared and bailed. Might try again on top rope.

I did not enjoy this. Just a brief, height dependent boulder problem.

No luck again on this today. Got completely spooked at the traverse move too!! Steve got it clean second go. Recommend a long draw for second bolt.

Hard to tell - ridiculously difficult bouldery start...

Took turns to work it with Dave and Phil. None of us could find a solution to the last section above the third bolt. Way harder than it looks from the ground.

COULD be a classic (for the top crack in particular) but ruined on the direct start by retarded bolting. I fell on Onsight at the end of the crux, moving to gain the 3rd bolt. Stopped scarcely 1m from the ground. To fall at the clipping hold or while clipping will put you on the ground. The best way to climb this is the way it was originally done: climb the main crack on the left, traverse in past the last bolt to gain the finger crack and then froth over its awesomeness to the anchors (at gr21)

Had a play on top rope after Isaac cruised the lead. I can see how it goes, but the shoulder didn't like the gaston at the crux.

With Dave. We figured out the first boulder problem at the second bolt (weird compression move on very thin crimp sidepulls - ouchies), but were stumped by the next section trying to get into the crack.Not very inspiring. Don't know if I'll be back for this one any time soon.

Too hard for me, even on top rope, but not outside the realms of possibility. Really cool climb

This felt mega hard. So much more so than Godfather. Maybe some stuff has broken off or we are missing something vital.

Couldn’t reach the reachy beta, and couldn’t quite pull off my own crimpy, crouchy idea

Loose hold up high, not worth trying until it's glued on, pretty average climb too

Totally contrived, just ended up pulling myself up half the route. The rock pushes you into Sitting Bull the whole way, with the exception of the last move. Don't waste your time or skin.

Fingers not strong enough for that start. Looks pretty easy from a couple of holds higher.

All over the place today. Slabbier loving shoes may help..?

Name seems accurate. Very nice looking short line. Begging to be attempted. Feet kept scooting off the cruxy bit. Fun. Will return.

Felt good up until the 2nd bolt was 1.5 meters left of me, a little funky with groundfall potential at 2nd bolt, suggest pre hanging an extended sling to make life more pleasant

Awesome line, good fun, onsight attempt, got all the moves up to death row and lowered

Could not for the life of me work out how to gain the arete without punting hard

Managed to get up to the second bolt, absolutely outstanding movement and rock quality till that point, not enough in the tank and the sequence left me really confused to make it to the next visible jugs, would recommend stick clip or pre hanging a long draw on the second bolt as there is serious spice

Tried to Top rope but rope jammed in the crack - watch out for that!

Total fail, slightly similar to thin fiend but less positive on the hands, contrived

Good looking line that looks easier from the ground, bold lead by some nutter back in the day

Totally shut down at the start. Couldn't stick the moves. Hard.

Struggled to commit to the move getting off the ground, I will be back
