Ascents in North

first attempt at climbing this was with two close friends "who dont climb" and a single small crash pad, nerve racking to say the least.

Attempt 2 this time with spotters and more pads. still having trouble finishing it off. the last few moves are on sloppers and your are quite high off the ground. will have to leave it for 2013

im not sure why I kept popping off near the top will get it next time.

An easier way up the waterfall. However, the LHS looked interesting with possible pro. The rock here is very different from the rest of Townsville, kinda like volcanicish, coarse sandpaper.

if it was 10m longer would be classic.

This is the scramble to get to the top for bolting or to get down after a top out. Mostly isn't required but good to know about in case you started up one of boobook's many 35+m routes with only a 60m rope.

Simple though the move to the anchors at the end still felt spicy as rock hadn't fully cleaned up yet.

Not as simple as it looked, does actually have a noticeable crux despite the short length. Probably a good introduction to the area, without the additional endurance required for longer better boobook routes.

Lead next time

The best of the 4 short sport routes in this wall, good rock, and consistent, probably a great first lead for those new to leading, slab climbing, or both.

Pleasant and will improve with more traffic.

FFA. Start looked way easier than it was, ended up being an accidentally very bold lead but couldn't back out because I had no gear 🤣, really enjoyed it regardless, fun to push myself with my trad leading

The crux of the climb is down low and well before you get any protection so despite the easy grade it can feel spicy, gear once you get it is all good and plentiful. Not as easy as it looks from the ground.

FFA. Nice movement on some average quality rock be careful of the larges flake.

The dangerous flake is a cool feature, hope it stays on the wall. Requires a little more care than some of the other routes, still enjoyable though.

FFA. The first climb I've bolted! Felt pretty bold for me through the crux, super happy with this ascent!

While this crack is on a slab angle it's flared nature keeps it very engaging, as does the adventurous minimal bolting up the slab to finish. If you like to enjoy that thrilling feeling while on a technically easy mixed climb then this one shouldn't be missed.

Was super excited to jump on a hand crack and have a break from the offwidth rampage we've been on. Turns into an ofwidth once the handcrack ends, the break was nice while it lasted 🤣🤣🤣

Beautiful morning to cap off the nqld trip. Felt lovely to get in the zone on these 40m slab pitches then bask in the amazing bay views at the belay stations. Rivalling bare rock for nicest approach, the creek was running so we got barefoot and shuffled along. Bootied a big brekky at the elliot springs bp which was enough for both of us to eat as lunch while we had a shallow skinny dip in the creek.

A couple of places where you are made to think and pucker that sphincter as these slabs tend to do.

A worthy and typically engaging climb, well bolted to keep a consistent spice through to the finish.

Nice features, the crux was engaging, the rest of the climb less so.

Route climbs some nice features, the closer bolting does slightly subtract from the regular experience as it is less engaging than many other routes at the boobook crag but it is still a nice route.

Really enjoyable and engaging climbing requiring a good trust in your feet. Stays quite consistent.
