Routes as sport in Armeos

The island's most popular, steep tufa climb. A good introduction to the style. In peak season, come early for a quick onsight or join the crowd until the sun hits.

Basically a Kalymnos unicorn: Steady, tufas-only, mid grade climbing. Very popular.

Classy steep line on big holds. Some holds are getting a little polished.

Slab and juggy tufas.

Solid tufa action at the grade. Pumpy but possible kneebars and stemming. Not so obvious top section.

Fabulous steep climbing for the grade. Little polished but no real bother. Enjoy the experience.

A step upwards from DNA but at least as good! One reachy move makes it harder for the short.

Being less steep than the 7's to the left, Trela still requires a lot of endurance or better, some creative kneebars. Take the rightmost line of the shared start with Punto Caramelo and Tufantastic.

[Rope beta: A 70m rope is more than enough for leading and lowering (even though the guidebook says 40m). BUT be aware that stripping QDs might need more rope depending on technique.]

Beautiful but pumpy climbing on tufa blobs. The first bolts are quite spaced.

Totally un-Kalymnian climbing. Tricky in the top of the groove.

A popular climb with unique tufa formations. Technique and boulder strength.

A popular island-classic. A steep crux on tufas, then another crux on smooth pockets.

Technical, crimpy and consistent. A bit sharp.

A very underrated route. Technical and a little demanding for the grade. Worth doing twice.

Nice technical route. Good footwork helps. The last bit is slightly overhanging and pumpy, but always with good holds when you find them.

Short, with a bouldery sequence on pinches.

A tough and steep boulder on small tufas above the initial, juggy stalactites.

A technical and delicate slab and face.

A fantastic route that offers technical climbing with some thin moves in the first half. Sustained second half up the cracks and small tufas. Easier for the tall.

A little polished and "the crimps are gettin' thinner". Fantastic pitch on great rock.

Technical crux and somewhat polished.

Extension of 'Argo'. Quite steep, slightly overhanding but with good holds. A lot softer rock than Telemaco.

Tufas and a crux on pockets.

A super steep and very long, typical Kalymnos-style climb. Big holds, good rests but also some technical and bouldery parts. [70m rope ok if tied off.]

Some argue it's hard to grade because a successful ascent can take anywhere from 10 to 60+ minutes. Grade consensus is in the 7b+ to 7c range.

The route is named after the greek god of fertility. Maybe due to the long skinny stalactite in the middle of the climb.

An often photographed route because of its position on the edge of the Grande Grotta. Pumpy climbing with few rests.

Two unusual cruxes and a hard clip make many climbers Tufa King Pumped to succeed.

Quite different to the rest of the wall and rather old-schoolish on vertical and later slabby, grey rock.

Hard start on small, sharp holds. Then a very enjoyable and varied long run.

Be careful with the fragile flake at mid height.

A popular route and with an early, techy crux. Then gym like on unusual, hidden jugs.

A technical wall climb.

Very polished start. Then gets nicer.

Easyish climbing leads to a technical demanding crux and some power moves after, save some power for the end.

A short but worthwhile route with two fundamentally different ways of climbing it. Only one fits the grade.

Tough boulder on slippery holds at the start. Another small crux to exit from the tufas. Being quite a popular route, footholds have become very polished.

To climb the original line, stay in the bolt line at the 2nd last bolt. See also: 'Nickel (Left Variation)'.

Pumpy with a stiff crux on smooth holds.

Infamous hard anchor-clip and possible rope drag problems. Otherwise great tufa climbing at around 6b+.

Great, playful moves inside and next to the diagonal tufa corner.

A long, vertical journey, on smooth orange rock, mostly requiring good footwork and routefinding skills.

Great moves across the black streak. Often very wet unfortunately.

An impressive overhang at the top of the vertical pillar. Bouldery crux!

A long, grey wall with some cruxes higher up, not always obvious routefinding and rather spaced bolts for the island's standard. As the view towards Telendos is completely unhindered, climbers are often photographed here. (Full-page photo in 2019 guidebook, p. 298)
