Routes as trad in Mexico

Esta grieta es muy divertida de escalar y se escala en yoyo con la reunión de "Cosita de nada (face)". Cuando se termina la grieta hay que seguir escalando hacia la derecha e incorporarse a la ruta original de Cosita de nada (face)

Para proteger recomiendo un juego de stoppers del 5 al 11, Cams entran del 0.5 al 2.

Para limpiar es mas fácil dandole en yoyo recogiendo el material y luego bajando de la reunión.

18 pitches, up to 5.10d. Originally done on gear, retro-bolted in 1999. Retro-bolting still leaves many runouts, and there is, also, lots of loose rock to keep the sense of adventure alive.

Unrepeated since first ascent due to huge amounts of loose rock. Several parties have been injured or backed off on this.

Climbs the east (closest to the road) ridge of El Bobo. Nasty bushwhack to the base making the climb hard to find. 4 new bolts have been added on the start, but rest is gear.

Climb "Pepe y Lupe" then continue up the ridge for 7 more pitches -- lots of easy 4th & 5th class with the occasional head wall.

Can be rappelled on anchors/sub-anchors up high and "Super Nova" anchors down lower.

Obvious wide crack at top of canyon. Vegetated. Trad, but might have bolted belays.

Ed says 5.11a, Dane says 5.12. Climb it and see?

First pitch has been bolted and partially cleaned to provide access to "The Vatican".

Might find 3-4 bolts per pitch, but should bring gear.

Same anchor as first pitch of Treasure of the Sierra madre. You may also clip the last 2 bolts, take gear from 0.5 to 2.

Start up "Otis (Campbell)", then continue up and right through the garden, over the ridge then follow the dihedral to the same summit as "Estrellita".

Climb the ridge right of "UFOs Big Rigs and Burritos" into the big dihedral and then up to the same peak as "Estrellita".

Probably shares upper pitches with "Jungle Boogie".

Climb "Dope Ninja" then continue up the ridge to a large ledge. Easier terrain, 3 pitches up a headwall, short pitch out right, up a dihedral.

Walk along top to top of "Devotion" and rappel that for the descent.

Climb the western ridge of the uphill spire.

Climb the downhill ridge (the ridge facing the road) of the downhill (eastern) spire.

Starts left of "Stairway to Nowhere", up to its summit, further up the ridge into a large bowl, then up to the summit of "Time Wave Zero".

Descent: rappel TWZ.

Mixed gear and bolts, seldom climbed and hard to find.

Climb the gully just left of "Las Chimuelas".

Mostly 4th class, with a few steeper bits.

Looking up into the Potrero from the camping area, there is an obvious steep ridge line up the right side of the Potrero -- that's Monster Truck, the whole ride line.

Do the first two pitches of "Quick Draw McGraw", then continue up the ridge following the path of least resistance when the ridge looks harder than 5.9.

Lots and lots and lots of pitches, with generous chunks of 3rd class, too.

Climbs the ridge on the left side of the overlook all the way up to the summit of El Toro.

Descent: Traverse the top and rappel "Time Wave Zero" or walk off the hiking trail to the south and east.

Start in the chimney right of the Plancha, climb up it, onto and along the ridge, then down to the Lookout.

A good introduction to the terrain found in the longer ridge routes such as "The Scariest Ride in the Park" and "Monster Truck".

Si vienes caminando de la carretera hacia “El Reliz” esta sería la primer línea de plaquetas que podrás encontrar, pero ojo: es ruta mixta y si tomas la hebra podrías caer al piso.

Same start as "Land Of The Free". The 5th and 12th pitch are trad pitches requiring between .25" and 3" gear.

Esta ruta se accesa por la canaleta que usan para hacer el rapel que baja a la cueva de la virgen. Esta a tres o cuatro metros a la izquierda de Reynas y Reyes y las únicas protecciones son chavetas y clavos viejos. La ruta tiene muy pocas protecciones y tiene hasta 20 metros de espacios sin anclajes, por esto es necesario/recomendable llevar stoppers y algunos cams. El cruz si tiene alrededor de 10 chavetas pero todas están oxidadas y la reunión es una sola chaveta antigua.

El primer largo son como 30 metros pero puedes juntarlo sin problema con el segundo largo. Pasas por una chimenea que requiere un poco de técnica. El tercer largo es un poco más fácil y acaba en una pequeña repisa donde inicias una travesía a la izquierda. El cuarto largo lo agrego solo porque es la travesía de 10 metros a la izquierda para dar belay de un lugar más cómodo y poder ver al escalador en la siguiente sección. El quinto largo inicia con una travesía a la izquierda y luego entras a la canaleta a la parte más aérea de la ruta, la reunión es una argolla con una cadena vieja, es más recomendable subir uno o dos metros más y montar una reunión con stoppers o cams. El último largo ya no entra de lleno a la canaleta, vas por un filito o arista la izquierda de la canaleta que sube el largo anterior.

Para bajar tiene que caminar un poco hacia abajo por la otra cara de la pared haciendo como un trayecto de media luna que baja y luego sube un poco hasta llegar a las cadenas del rapel. El primer rapel son como 45 metros, con una cuerda de 80 se pueda hacer y desescalar un poco. Sigues un caminito como si quisieras llegar a la pared donde termina la tirolesa de la vía ferrata, pasas un chorreadero y topas el caminito hasta topar con el siguiente rapel de aproximadamente 30 metros. Llegas a otra estación de donde ya no hay problema siguiendo las chavetas y las siguientes estaciones para terminar de bajar.

INICIA IGUAL QUE INSOLACIÓN 1, PERO SE TOMA LA GRIETA

Inicia "La Bella" Ruta mixta con un "hand jam crack" que termina equipada con bolts. Continúa en un segundo largo "La Bestia" un diedro con un crux al inicio de la vía. La 1a. reunion se encuentra en una repisa desde donde se puede dar belay comodamente.

Es una ruta con la primera placa alta. Para llegar a la base se tiene que hacer un 3ra clase. La vía va por una grieta obvia sobre la cara principal.

Ruta Mixta: 1er largo deportiva, 2o. largo Trad, 3er largo mixto. El tercer largo es una travesía horizontal y después se continúa hacia la parte superior (si se desea hacer cima).

Esta ruta comienza desde el segundo largo de Soldaditos. Equipo requerido: 1 set de hexcentrics, 1 set de cams #1 - #4, 1 set de Nuts, 2 cuerdas de 70m. Para el descenso hay que caminar por la cresta hacia el este, al llegar al diedro, buscar las placas y hacer tres rapeles, el primero de 69m y dos de 50 mas.

Designed to be a trad route: lots of bolts, easy rappels, three or four bolt belay stations. Start just left of the lowest point on the wall. Bivy possible after pitch six. Cut under the obvious orange roof on pitch 11.

Dihedral

Starts with a bouldery sequence with 3 bolts, and the upper half is a slim crack.

Left of Te quiero / Te extraño, hard start and very dirty, needs to be cleaned.

La grieta que va a un lado de "Acertijo" siguiendola como va desde el suelo.

Tiene hebras picantes de hasta 4 metros con posibilidad de caida en repisa. Opcionalmente se le puede dar totalmente de frente entrando a un offwidth/chimenea muy interesante.

Reunión a 2 puntos con cadena inoxidable. Topout opcional también.

La ruta empieza con unas regletas y después la mitad esta marcada con una repisa y después de la repisa sigue una fisura de puros dedos y fricción en los pies.

Escalada clásica en agarres grandes y con muchos posibilidades para proteger. Ideal para aprender de usar equipo tradicional.

Hay un bolt oxidado en el principio. Después escalada tradicional con muchos posibilidades para proteger hacia la reunión.

Linda pero un poco sucia. Con una cuerda de 70 metros se pueden combinar fácilmente los dos largos. Sin embargo, hay una reunión intermedio por si tienes una cuerda mas corta. En la segunda parte se ocupan unas nuezes o levas.

Climb the route "El Totem" and continue through the roof until you connect to "La Historia sin fin" and all the way up. In the middle part you can protect with slings. Rope drag!

Ruta comienza en la pared aislada de la izquierda.

La original via de dedos de acero se hace en tradicional siguiendo toda la grieta. Por obvias razones tiene ese nombre. La via deportiva se sale de la ruta original y se vuelve mas de slab que de dedos

Sigue toda la grieta a la derecha del "Llorar del Buho" llega hasta bien arriba donde hay reunión. Igual se puede hacer top-out.

Se puede proteger con Cams del 0.5 al 3 mas stoppers grandes

Closed and chopped route. Empiezas por una chimenea entre la piedra separada y “El Reliz”. Ya no cuenta con plaquetas y solo se puede escalar en tradicional, pero en realidad está prohibido escalar aquí.

Magnífica grieta protegida por 5 cams (.4,.5,.75,1,2). Increible ruta para practicar hand jams.

Es una fisura de dedos y aderencia en los pies en unas partes es fisura exterior, tiene poco deplome.

Starts near the north edge of the southern-most pillar of rock. Climb up the steep bottom face, plugging gear in short cracks, and head to the hammered-in knife-blade beneath the big block. Move up the left side of the block, then step out right onto the face of the block and pull up for a short rest on top of the block. Step up and move left on thin holds to plug gear in a pocket, then head straight up to some short thin cracks, plug a piece, and climb the overhanging jugs to anchor. GEAR: Small to medium cams, nuts, a medium hex or a 2” single-stem cam (Trango #7) for the pocket (Camelots don’t fit). And balls. 14 meters.

An alpine adventure that offers the easiest route off climbs #1 thru #4 (and the preferred way to rap into them). From the P2 anchors climb over and down the pillar then head up the ramp toward the airy arête. Sling the obvious pyramid horn , then traverse left and upward toward the top, plugging small cams. Pull a 5.10b/c move to the anchors if you avoid grabbing the little tree. GEAR: Small cams, slings. 25 meters.

Head up the ramp aiming for the crack in the dihedral and follow that crack as is steepens, moving up to a small roof where the crack peters out. Step out left to move up and around the overhang, then continue up and slightly right to a big, sloping ledge and move toward the base of the big, vertical crack that heads up the steep dihedral. A two bolt anchor is above a big pyramid flake at the base of the dihedral. GEAR: Cams from .5” to 3”, nuts. Pitch 2 - 5.10b Trad – Head straight up the dihedral crack, stemming and jamming and fighting your way to the big ledge 15 meters up. GEAR: Medium to large cams up to #4.

Pitch #1: Head up the dihedral with a crack in the solid black rock. Climb up to the cactus then step right onto a ledge, then move up and back left, following the finger crack in the dihedral on your left all the way up to a ledge beneath blocky black rock and a two-bolt anchor. This is a long pitch, approx. 30+ meters. If you lower off or rappel from here, WATCH YOUR ROPE LENGTH & CLOSE THE SYSTEM WITH KNOTS IN THE ROPE ENDS!!! Pitch #2: Climb up the short, steep face above the anchor bolts. Place a small cam or nut in the groove above the bolts to protect the move off the belay, then pull up onto a small ledge and place a tiny nut in a crack near your right hip. Traverse left and slightly up, placing another small nut to protect the second from a pendulum fall. Move to the base of the steep pink wall and build a gear belay in the excellent cracks (there are no bolts). Pitch #3: Move up the cracks, onto the huge boulder, then ascend the grey pillar, best done by moving out right onto the pillar’s north face (enjoy the exposure!). Then head straight up, working through steep, blocky terrain (the rock is better quality than it appears), until you can pull over the edge into the brush and to the two-bolt anchor on the big boulder on top. 25 meters. Do NOT move left onto the orange and grey rock below the brushy finish – that section contains loose blocks and flakes. To top completely out, climb the short face to the west up to a big ledge with bolts and chain anchors. GEAR: Double set of cams (small to #3, or add a set of hexes) and a set of small nuts.
