Ascents in Winter Wall having Beta

I had walked past this apparently abandoned project a number of times and finally decided to chuck some hangers on it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that someone had already done a lot of mahi cleaning the route, and that it is actually quite good. My first FA since moving to NZ, but won’t be the last!

Did it again to sort out the bolts and confirm the grade. Might be a bit stiff at 24, could be 25, especially to onsight.

Putting gear up for Alex. Clean up to clipping 4th bolt then rested there and after 5th bolt.

Second attempt. Fell going for 5th bolt clipping hold. Ticked bottom crimps to climb first section more efficiently.

Red point! 3rd attempt. Climbed bottom section much more efficiently. Felt easy. Yes!

#2ndgo Really nice line in a random place haha! Crimps and little foot chips on a face up to 3rd bolt which has a juggy sidepull just left. Can shake out here and then move up to 4th bolt spanning the feet and having a nice pinch on left hand. Keep moving the feet up to get hidden jugs in the middle (crack), clipping 5th bolt off a nice as layback Then keep stepping up to reach jugs over the top and done! (Anchor way back)

Awesome! Highest onsight. Felt every bit the grade with a savage start on very small crimps up to the second bolt. Then there is a nice no hands rest after clipping the 3rd bolt. I really didn't want to do the bottom part again so went into full take-no-prisoners mode for the steep section and powered over the top of the 5th bolt where there is another rest and dawdle to the anchors. Really nice climb.

A bit tweaky on the fingers for the warm up! Fell figuring out the sequence at the 1st, lowered and sent. More sustained than many other routes here, which is welcome!

Sustained and continuously good for the grade.

Tricksy at the bottom and again at the top. Almost blew the onsight up there but managed to keep it together.

I really enjoyed this line, the moves over the bulge are powerful class.

Start is hard, took a few goes to get the moves, and clipping the second bolt felt insecure to me. Fell at the top part getting to the last bolt, which is steeper than it looks!

Got it clean on top rope, should've led it again...

Looks crumbly from the bottom, but the moves are quite nice!

Another super seepy day at Britten, so unfortunately choices were limited. Not a bad warm up, although the bottom was absolutely sopping!

Start was easier than expected, but there’s a bit of spice up high. Good!
