I went up with a double rack of cams and a few wires like an absolute punter, found that none of the cams would go in anywhere, and subsequently ran out of wires with some worrying rapidity. A brilliant, technical, and chronically sandbagged pitch, I loved every minute of it! Made even better by having Ben Moon rock up at the crag and run out of gear on Darius

This was quite an excursion! So sustained, so technical, so consistently steep. Outrageous!! The second pitch is protected almost solely by uninspiring fixed pins that you can back up with wires that range from not okay to actually pretty okay. A total head trip for me, getting used to the climbing style, the gear, the polish, and it’s been a while since I had any real exposure, and the second pitch on this had plenty. So stoked to have been able to sample the limestone trad when I did with climbing not seeming like much of an option for the immediate future.

Another lap to warm up (cold fingers, debacle) and again after trying Mecca (pumped everything, debacle). On my second go I punted off the crux like an idiot and then went to the last bolt where i punted off again. Maybe if I’m stuck in the UK long enough i’ll actually manage to climb this.

It can’t get any better for 12m of climbing surely! I somehow managed to do all the moves except for one at the top because i was fairly spent (but i’m fairly sure it won’t be that bad with a little energy). It probably contains the top 10 hardest moves I’ve ever done and all of them are funky and brilliant. Maybe one day in the distant future
I could actually climb this climb?!

jon the cowboy cave decided to make this his first every trad lead after seconding some e1's without difficulty. set up an anchor for him at the top, and off he went. He immediately got into groundfall territory by doing a massive run out above his first peice until I told him to place something. Then I told him to back it up cause if it pops he is dead. Then he set off again, climbed past another placement opportunity on a big run out into the roof. I suggested he might want to place another piece, but he was too pumped to place anything and couldn't reverse the move into the roof he had just done. So he took his first Trad whip. Thankfully the pieces held fine. But he had left a cam half way up the roof so we had some fun getting it out. Then he bailed onto an easier route out right. What a ride. He had a good time though. so we did what i imagine is a fairly popular variation; the start of quietus into Norse corner climb.

definitely a spicy number for the grade. only found 3 places for gear the whole route. And the last piece was a #1 cam almost completely filling a vital pocket that provide the only foothold to reach the arete. Was able to push it to the side and sneak a toe in. i guess this is grit stone! fairly insecure all the way. a great last climb of the trip when i had shredded tips but wanted one last hurrah.

in my effort to understand british grading i went to a climbing gym. onsighted multiple 6c+ on lead. oh great, i should be ok to do an e1 classic then. of course not. took 20 million takes on this route, inching up by placing a piece of gear every 2 feet or so on the crux where the jams run out and the layback starts. first half was great jamming however. After floundering up for 45mins, Old mate stanage cave seconded up clean in about 10 seconds. which gave him thje confidence to attempt a lead on quietus.
