I don't quite agree with the 50 classics on a number of climbs - just not my types of climbing. The first pitch of this route is the hardest, and it's almost permanently wet. I climbed it in July and it was wet. Crowds any day, any time of the year bar winter, and it's cold at night or in the shade all year long. Not my favorite.

It's a mixed climb with bolts at the bottom to protect the slimmer slab moves. The climb becomes quite runout as you progress upward. It is in your best interest to bring a small rack and place gear whenever you can. I think brought .5-#1 C4's and maybe a set of stoppers. Great introduction to the slabby knob laden granite of Tuolumne.

5.8 | ★★ Biscuit and Gravy - with Brett Fishel | 47m | Yosemite National Park | Sun 9th Aug 2015 | |||||
Favorite climb on the bunny slopes. Crux is at the start with some thin edging and smearing up to the second bolt. Have a good spotter/attentive belayer. A fall before the first bolt is potentially nasty due to the v-shaped ground.
Bring a small rack to protect the left facing crack/layback. There's an easily overlooked bolt right after you exit the crack ( I missed it). So keep those eyes open! Or you're in store for a pretty big runout. |

Great climb. The approach is long but satisfying. Welcome to Tuolumne Alpine!! We managed it in 6 pitches. Had to build a anchor near the top of 5 to reduce rope drag.
The route is busy, but there are many variations one can climb to move around other parties. The chimney pitch can become a bottle neck when crowded so manage it with caution. Another bottle neck is the summit. One has to down climb and traverse to reach the start of the descent. No rappel anchors on this classic peak. |

Misread the route and became stymied by a few face moves.
Be leary of venturing too far left at the start of the second pitch and as you approach the mantle at the top of the second pitch. Also look for a great left facing crimp as you slap slopers on the 10d face traverse. The holds are there. The 5.10c finger crack turns on as you near the top. It quickly becomes a sustained layback. Stem footers exist if you have the presence of mind to locate them (I did not). |

My best multipitch of the trip. We managed it in 4 pitches though it officially goes at 6 (resulted in a few tricky anchors)
First pitch is the supposed crux pitch with its 5.9 face moves right off the ground. Protected by a bomber bolt, most will find this easy. I found the 5.7/5.8 sustained finger crack far more challenging. Especially since it is nearly a whole rope length. Do bring some larger 4"-5" pro to tame the offwidth and allow easy anchor building following the finger crack. |

Its great to smash out 450m climbing over 14 pitches in just over an hour by free soloing it. I opted for the 5.6/5.7 steep crack finish to the last pitch to make it more exciting. Mostly this is low 5th class climbing with a very few moves at 5.4 and 5.5. I ended up ignoring the topo and making up my own harder pitches so I could do more climbing. An okay route, but too doddly to be a classic, and the unmarked descent from the top is terrible.

TRS the 5.6 access pitch, P1 and P2 as a giant 90m pitch. Would be true megaclassic with 3 more bolts in 90m (and only R-rated, instead of X-rated). It has some bolts to stop it being utter death, so why not be reasonable? I cruised the access pitch; clean P1 to the v5 crux (lots of falls to figure THAT out), then clean to the end; 1 fall off the belay on P2, then clean to anchors. An epic fight! Stunning, steep, hyper-technical thin knob climbing on an immaculate black streak. Truly stunning!
