Ramales de la Victoria is one of the most emblematic climbing areas in Cantabria. Limestone walls with abundant crimps and water erosion pockets. It's also a world class caving destination.
There are several crags a few minutes walk from the carpark. Park at Cueva de Covalanas (parking 43.244, -3.453) or walk from the town of Ramales to the carpark (20-30 min walk). If you choose the walk, you will find some easier climbing walls directly on the path, close to the Via Ferrata El Caliz (43.247, -3.456). For the gem of Ramales, Pared del Eco (Eco Wall), walk southeast for 5 min following a path to an impressive grey and orange wall (43.244, -3.450).
Sport climbing developed in the 80s and 90s, graded accordingly. Many climbs have been rebolted and have new anchors (reunion), but always inspect the bolts. Adventurous trad and aid multipitches are also abundant.
