In theory I see how this goes. In practice it's damn hard.

Managed the send on my 4/5th go, second climb of the grade absolutely stoked. The huge group of about 15 people made it all the more sweeter thanks guys!

Pretty ambiguous start. Sit matched on the two smaller slots then up and through the rose, and meeting at the start of the V5 -- about a 7ish maybe. Regardless cool three moves to add to it. Fell on the mantle Update: Low two small slots is the start.

Cool, big psyche today! Sat bottom right of the ceiling on those two tiny slots and through to the rose.

Linked into the stand but didn't have the courage to do the topout again

Had three solid burns but was goofing the face section. It takes a lot of power out of you before the V5, making it pretty droppable. I much prefer the new beta with the broken holds kinda forcing that rose move that I usually skipped pre-break. Definitely can see it around V7/8. V8 seems fair I reckon. Needs more action!

Didn’t get the send but pretty sure it will go first shot next time!

Falling off the mantle. I think morning or night conditions would help but this thing is a heartbreaker!

First attempt of the day sent it but dabbed on the pad! Gumby 😅

Sent again and didn’t dab! Hooray!! I am really unsure of this grade to be honest I think it could definitely be a v7 but i am fine with it be an easier v8, Maybe 7B but unsure because I did it in two sessions, and to be honest I may not be strong enough to send v8s in two sessions yet 🤷🏻

Linked it all, just couldn’t commit only having the one pad and myself

First moves are hard. More finger strength will help.

This line feels about as anything I've ever been on. Need to do some serious left hamstring curls to gain the necessary power for this one!

Made some progress today, as I was able to stick the first move. Not sure what to do after that - so much body tension required.

This thing is just nails. Tried new beta today, but much linkage is still required. Definitely harder than V7.

Had a play but hard to work with a single pad and no spotters.

Briefly pulled on a couple of times. Felt good. High potential for sending this if I project it.

Have sent all the individual moves. The combination will be very power-endurance-y but it'll happen with time.

...here's my review of the Horrorbleau cave as a holiday destination (ahem, shelter from a storm)

COMFORT 4 stars - with two boulder mats you can lie comfortably (though some may wish to deduct a star if you'd prefer a less moist right shoulder)

SIZE 2 stars - my head and left knee are within 30cm of each other. Need I say more.

VIEW 5 stars if you like lightening

PROXIMITY TO OTHER GUESTS 2 stars - if I sit up my head will instantaneously and simultaneously become closely acquainted with half a dozen medium sized spiders

MOISTURE LEVEL 3 stars and rapidly deteriorating - the drip that was once at the lip of the cave is now suspiciously close to my right hip. I will soon be more damp than desirable.

CLOSING THOUGHTS I had the choice to go home early but instead chose to work the moves on this boulder and trap myself in a storm. A choice well made.

First of the grade. Did not use the heel beta, instead long-legged it to the footers for chalking dead and threw to mail slot. Probably easier than the heel beta.

What a powerful pumpy line! Got to the last move twice but by the time beta was worked out and it was all linked my skin was beyond done...

There is significantly easier beta than using the left heel and goes same grade as Chalking Dead. Heel is cool though.

Great climb! Sent it quick with original heel start. Saw and felt the other beta mentioned, but it's such a different climb since you start feet at the opposite end of the boulder.

Starting heel might be contrived but makes for quite engaging climbing.

I don't have many sends in this grade range but it went suspiciously quick and seems steep to call it V8 compared to every other 8 I've been actively trying all season. More traffic needed for sure and I'm super curious to see everyone's opinion on contriving a line's pull on position vs finding completely different and easier beta for the pull on after the first ascent.

I tried what I understand to be the 'easy' beta of long legging it around from the start. This felt very very hard to me. Are the people who sent it this way taller than me?

My beta was to make one small hand move off the start and then, using the left heel hook, throw the right hand all the way to the letter box hold. From here moving the feet around is easy.

In terms of grade, I think using my beta its a fair bit hard than The Chalking Dead which I consider a V6. Thus I'd give Horrowbleau V7.

Had a play on this thing, knowing I wouldn’t send it today. I had eyed the line about 6 months ago but didn’t clean it - thanks for putting in the effort JB! Will make a great addition to WR when it gets done. Will definitely benefit from a couple of pads and at least one spotter.

Reachy, thin, and burly!

Having gotten on this problem again today, I reckon the grade is about right at V6. Will be interesting to hear others' opinions.
