Ascents of But the Raven, Sitting Lonely...

Amazing route! Without the dyno crux, it would probably be a 23/24. I thought I was going to send it on my second and then on my third attempt but I wasn't able to pull hard enough for the dyno. I ended up with a big flapper but definitely worth it.

Like butter. Warm, dry breeze came through for the second send train

Hanging draws. Took a few goes to get the dyno again, then clean to the top.

Felt great getting up to and setting up for the dyno, juuust didn't reach it. Did the dyno twice then came down.

Nice big move specifically if you are small

Had a good go at doing the dyno from the ground. Few more tries and I figured out the body positioning

I only stopped at the crux bolt. It took me six or seven goes to get that move. It didn't seem hard enough to be 26, but I guess we'll see how many goes it takes to send it

Nope, still can't quite link the crux of the "direct" version of this route. Its like a V4/5 in a single move, that I just find utterly nails.

I kinda cruised my original "24"-ish version of the route though today, which is something, I guess.

The dyno is hard but it will go, the rest is easy.

24 my ass... Will see how I feel next time I have a go.

FFA. Going direct makes this route so much better. The move isn't that hard if you have a 6 foot reach. The crack is now officially out!!

Lap one, Onsight. Odd start but the climbing gets better the higher you go. The rock reminds me of radcat wall. A bit dick scooting out into the crack, but some cool holds up high are good payoff.

Weird start that i couldn't commit to and very steep. My head is all over the place and i didn't wanna climb across into the crack, was freaking out

Via the more sustained (though less nails) LHV. Probably hard at 24. 2nd shot today (4th LAP total). Super-sustained steep pumping on great rock and at a tame grade. Mind-boggling terrain for the grade. Awesome! Gene proved today that the direct version does go free, though after another hour of working the move I still can't do it. 26/27 that way? Regardless, the original is a great (sustained) route in itself.

Another Top Rope solo lap, prepping the route (hammering off choss, and chalking it up), investigating the "direct" move and looking for alternatives to going into the crack. The answer is that there aren't any except for doing THE MOVE or the McDougal. Funky fun monkeying though.

Top Rope Solo lap before bolting the route. Would ALMOST be classic for its outrageous steepness and position, but the brief McDougal out left to the crack to avoid a section of blankness robs it of its glory. Felt about 24ish this way, and funky big moves between good holds.
