18 After the Sunset (After the Sunset P1-2) - with Gareth Hall
1 18 30m lead by John Pitcairn
2 16 20m lead by John Pitcairn
Sport 50m, 42 Kawakawa Bay Very Good Sat 4th Jan 2020
A Saturday evening faff around gaining access to the tops of Super Natural and Bi Curious George to fix ropes for cleaning. Linked P1-2 only, considerable rope drag at the dirty top out. Replaced the old hand line snaplink above Super Natural with a stainless maillon. Ran out of time and did no actual cleaning.

18 After the Sunset P1
1 18 30m Sport
Sport 30m, 42 Kawakawa Bay Very Good Mon 2nd Jan 2023
Warmup. The first of the two good pitches for the route (P5 is the other). Bloody nice.

19 The Spell of the Barking Spider (The Spell of the Barking Spider P1) - with Grant Johnston
1 19 28m lead by John Pitcairn
Sport 28m, 20 Kingston Very Good Sun 31st Jan 2021
P1 only. Crux gave no trouble this time, just a bit crimpy. Grant didn't want to go through the roof so we didn't do P2.

17 Hebe - with Gareth Hall Sport 30m, 15 Sheridan Hills Good Sat 21st Mar 2020
Hardish start, stay left into the gorse. Ow. It has now been pruned a bit. You can get down on a 56m rope.

16 High Hopes - with Angela Hewlett
1 lead by John Pitcairn
2 lead by John Pitcairn
Sport 45m, 14 Kawakawa Bay Classic Sun 8th Feb 2015
Misread the initial moves up to the arete and made it harder than it really is, ha. Angela definitely out of her comfort zone seconding pitch 1.

16 High Hopes - with Colin, Paul Baron Sport 45m, 14 Kawakawa Bay Classic Fri 2nd Apr 2021
Got out there early before the hordes arrive and start queueing. 5 years since I last led this and every move seemed new. One long pitch is the way to go, but if so your seconds need to be aware of the rope stretch at the low crux (which is not 16).

22 Safety in Numbers Sport 30m, 14 Kawakawa Bay Very Good Wed 4th Jan 2023
Consistent all the way. A lot of lichen makes it hard to spot the feet and at times you are on lichen slopers. High priority for a clean. Topped out through some dead bushy stuff I didn't remember being there, couldn't find the anchor, then discovered a tree had died and fallen right onto it. Considerable swearing while balanced on more lichen. Got anchored then spent a while wrenching the tree off and sent it down. Rap cleaned. This will be bloody great after a good brush.

18 Road Tripping - with Gareth Sport 48m, 14 Kawakawa Bay Very Good Sun 22nd Oct 2023
Better than High Hopes. Could use a clean but not too bad, maybe 18 as is. Nice view of parties on cruxes of After The Sunset and The Odyssey.

18 The Arches - with Stephen Bailey Sport 35m, 13 Waipapa Classic Sun 13th Jan 2013
I must have been on this before surely?

18 Aurum Sport 25m, 13 Sheridan Hills Good Sat 12th Sep 2015
Fully bolted now, thanks Bryce. Nice climbing and exposure out on the arete. Stay on the arete, don't go right into the tempting cave of doom near the top, and if you do, don't decide to just punch straight out the top of it, which adds a couple of grades and no bolts. That got the heart going.

18 The Arches - with Gareth, Wez Wright Sport 35m, 13 Waipapa Classic Sun 9th Sep 2018
Been a while. Clean and controlled. Nice top belaying in the sun. Prob not the best Waipapa intro for Matt.

18 Aurum Sport 25m, 13 Sheridan Hills Good Sat 15th Sep 2018
Good exposure at the crux.

20 Hotter than a Hot Thing Sport 30m, 13 Sheridan Hills Very Good Sat 15th Sep 2018
Alzheimers onsight. Nice sustained 17-18 to a great rest before tackling the crux, where the holds are smaller and the moves longer. Pleased I can still do it. Freeclimb guide says 21, maybe only one or two moves though.

17 Jugzilla (Jugzilla P1) - with Angela Hewlett
1 17 30m lead by John Pitcairn
Sport 30m, 13 Kawakawa Bay Good Sat 3rd Nov 2018
A 2m sling might help manage the rope drag induced by the shared bolting at the top.

18 Aurum - with Jack Robertshaw Sport 25m, 13 Sheridan Hills Very Good Thu 9th May 2019
Enjoying this more and more, easy exposed arete ramble to strong off balance crux after passing the cave of doom.

18 Aurum - with Gareth Hall Sport 25m, 13 Sheridan Hills Very Good Sat 21st Mar 2020
Easy fun cruise until the cave of doom then solid for a few moves after that.

17 Carpe Diem - with Colin Megson, Angela Hewlett Sport 30m, 12 Sheridan Hills Very Good Sat 17th Jan 2015
17 Carpe Diem - with Grant Johnston, Tim Swain Sport 30m, 12 Sheridan Hills Very Good Thu 26th Apr 2018
Felt reasonably sustained.

17 Carpe Diem - with Gareth Hall Sport 30m, 12 Sheridan Hills Very Good Sat 21st Mar 2020
Wasps en-route but fairly docile. Better than I remember.

17 Carpe Diem - with Jonno, Greer Sport 30m, 12 Sheridan Hills Very Good Sat 17th Oct 2020
Pocket bingo face climbing, not my favourite style. Fun route finding at the top though.

17 Carpe Diem - with Jonno Rau Sport 30m, 12 Sheridan Hills Very Good Sun 10th Dec 2023
22 Rohans Arete Sport 28m, 11 Kawakawa Bay Classic Sun 30th Dec 2018
Without the drizzle this time, managed to remember my onsight attempt beta and nailed it, well pleased. A constant series of cruxes and no-hands rests in a great position, it's an excellent sport route that I'd do again.

22 Rohans Arete - with Gareth Sport 28m, 11 Kawakawa Bay Classic Tue 1st Feb 2022
7.30pm and finally starting to cool off a bit. No warmup just punch it and milk the rests. Got a bit too focused and accidentally skipped the crux bolt. Bloody great, and off the unsent list.

19 Climatic Extension - with Jonno Rau, Gareth Sport 25m, 11 Waipari Very Good Sat 23rd Jul 2022
Off the unsent list. Rather good. Stayed mostly on or near left arete through middle, though somebody claimed the face is easier. Can't see it.

18 Terror Incognito Sport 25m, 10 Waipari Very Good Sun 30th Nov 2014
Find the rests after you leave the arete. They are there!

20 Pigs In Space - with Colin Megson Sport 15m, 10 Sheridan Hills Good Sat 17th Jan 2015
Take the time to think about the crux sequence before you make the moves and it flows very well.

15 Dead Cow Groove Sport 15m, 10 Sheridan Hills Average Thu 8th Feb 2018
It seems unlikely that I have never led this. Warmup, belay by Rosie and Ohm.

20 Pigs In Space Sport 15m, 10 Sheridan Hills Good Thu 8th Feb 2018
Some sharp holds through the overhang crux. No panic, plenty of time to work it through, but finished with a very numb finger.

18 Terror Incognito Sport 25m, 10 Waipari Classic Sun 18th Feb 2018
Bloody great.

20 Pigs In Space Sport 15m, 10 Sheridan Hills Good Sat 15th Sep 2018
Struggled a bit with the crux clip

20 Great Scott - with Angela Hewlett Sport 27m, 10 Kawakawa Bay Very Good Sat 3rd Nov 2018
Much better friction than last visit, happy. A fairly thin crux, another tricksy spot nearer the top.

16 Chevre Sport 35m, 10 Sheridan Hills Very Good Sat 22nd Dec 2018
I'd forgotten about the crux. This is great! Removed a couple of bail maillons from it, there is a short chain anchor just right for exactly that purpose.

18 Calcium Snow - with Amy Sport 23m, 10 Pakeho Very Good Sun 11th Oct 2020
Borderline classic and pumpier than it looks. Great fun.

20 Pigs In Space - with Wade, Jonno Sport 15m, 10 Sheridan Hills Good Sat 17th Oct 2020
Clipped from the sharp hold above the bolt. Works well setting up for the next bit.

17 The Mad Hatter - with Angela Hewlett, Colin Sport 20m, 10 Kawakawa Bay Good Fri 22nd Jan 2021
Engaging, stay a whisker left/below the bolts at the start traverse to avoid a nervy step across.

16 Piglet - with Grant Johnston Sport 21m, 10 Pakeho Good Sun 16th May 2021
Actually pretty fun. Just dry enough at bottom. Straight up the guts/crack through the low scoop makes that the crux.

18 Calcium Snow - with Angela Hewlett Sport 23m, 10 Pakeho Very Good Sun 16th May 2021
Time to leave, still something left for the crux on this but no time to muck around, find the damn feet. Best 18 here.

18 Terror Incognito - with Greer, Jonno, Claire Sport 25m, 10 Waipari Very Good Fri 12th Nov 2021
Forgot a lot of beta through the middle, managed to clip from a tiny hold then found the jug. Got the top pretty right at least. Happy enough. Cleaned on abseil.

18 Terror Incognito - with Gareth, Amy Sport 25m, 10 Waipari Very Good Sat 11th Dec 2021
Hot humid day. Pumpy warmup.

17 The Mad Hatter - with Gareth Sport 20m, 10 Kawakawa Bay Good Wed 29th Dec 2021
A bit tetchy in the new shoes, sensitivity not there yet. Felt 18 as a result.

20 Great Scott - with Gareth Sport 27m, 10 Kawakawa Bay Very Good Mon 31st Jan 2022
Benchmark 20, if it's harder than this it's 21...

20 Great Scott - with Greg, Gareth Sport 27m, 10 Kawakawa Bay Very Good Sun 17th Apr 2022
Rock getting a bit warm, but probably the smoothest I've ever managed. The small crux sidepull flake is flexing, somebody will get a surprise soon.

20 Pigs In Space - with Gareth, Jonno Rau, Greg, Max Sport 15m, 10 Sheridan Hills Good Sun 14th Aug 2022
Alzheimers crux but hung on.

18 Terror Incognito - with Jonno Rau Sport 25m, 10 Waipari Very Good Sat 9th Sep 2023
20 Hard Great Scott - with Gareth Sport 27m, 10 Kawakawa Bay Very Good Fri 20th Oct 2023
Side pull flake still present.

20 Hard Great Scott - with Aidan Sarginson Sport 27m, 10 Kawakawa Bay Good Fri 2nd Feb 2024
Warmup? Across to the Critters anchor for a 1.5 hour effort getting the big midway flake off that and raining big chunks down. Aidan got the draws off just before rain arrived.

17 Pani Para Chha - with Grant Johnston, Tim Swain Sport 15m, 9 Sheridan Hills Very Good Thu 26th Apr 2018
Fun arete

20 Fire and Ice Sport 15m, 9 Sheridan Hills Very Good Thu 26th Apr 2018
An experimental traverse to hang under the crux bulge was not a good idea. Reversed that then did the proper move. Quite a tenuous nervy move rightward above the bulge will get you going.

17 Pani Para Chha Sport 15m, 9 Sheridan Hills Good Sat 15th Sep 2018
Enjoyable arete

17 Virgin On Easy - with Gareth Sport 23m, 9 Wharepapa Rock Very Good Sat 31st Aug 2019
Not been on this for quite a while I think. Really good, varied climbing.

17 Virgin On Easy Sport 23m, 9 Wharepapa Rock Very Good Sat 29th Feb 2020
Fun warmup.

17 Virgin On Easy - with Gareth Sport 23m, 9 Wharepapa Rock Very Good Sat 16th May 2020
The best 17 here?

17 Pani Para Chha - with Colin Sport 15m, 9 Sheridan Hills Good Sun 20th Sep 2020
Some holds have come off at low crux. Still 17. Great position, nice climbing.

17 Pani Para Chha - with Jonno, Wade, Alex Sport 15m, 9 Sheridan Hills Good Sat 17th Oct 2020
Direct at bottom crux a smidge harder now two bits have broken off. Still 17.

17 Samurai Pizza Cats - with Angela Hewlett Sport 15m, 9 Kawakawa Bay Good Sun 24th Jan 2021
Much easier than it looks from the ground.

17 Virgin On Easy - with Gareth Sport 23m, 9 Wharepapa Rock Very Good Sat 4th Dec 2021
Nice. One slick foothold on top arete.

17 Pani Para Chha - with Gareth, Greg Sport 15m, 9 Sheridan Hills Good Sun 14th Aug 2022
Warmup in the sun.

18 Hard Roadweary - with Gareth Sport 20m, 9 Waipari Good Sat 4th Mar 2023
Late start. Possibly poor choice of warmup.

16 ~15 Sweet 16s Not M16s - with Gareth Sport 20m, 9 Kawakawa Bay Don't Bother Sun 9th Apr 2023
Warmup. Meh.

18 Hannah Louise Sport 30m, 8 Sheridan Hills Very Good Thu 8th Feb 2018
I seem to do the crux differently every time. Straight up works well. Fun.

19 Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter Sport 25m, 8 Waipari Very Good Mon 27th Aug 2018
Clean and controlled. Bloody good route.

19 Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter Sport 25m, 8 Waipari Very Good Sun 23rd Sep 2018
Cut loose clipping first bolt which woke me up but otherwise no worries.

19 Safe Playing Sport 20m, 8 Waipari Good Sat 29th Sep 2018
Smallpox are better than bigpox. Pumpy start, cool windy exposed arete.

18 Hannah Louise Sport 30m, 8 Sheridan Hills Good Sat 22nd Dec 2018
Too easy in the long lower section, good crux, awkward at the anchor.

18 Hannah Louise - with Jack Robertshaw Sport 30m, 8 Sheridan Hills Good Thu 9th May 2019
Nice for a warmup to ease you into the short crux.

18 Reamed By Percentage - with Jonno Sport 24m, 8 Wharepapa Rock Very Good Sun 30th Aug 2020
Bridged out left to get up into the groove. Better style will occur sometime in future.

18 Hannah Louise - with Colin Sport 30m, 8 Sheridan Hills Good Sun 20th Sep 2020
Avoiding bridge knee pressure. Nursing it a bit. Top went well enough.

18 Hannah Louise - with Jonno, Greer Sport 30m, 8 Sheridan Hills Good Sat 17th Oct 2020
Late warmup after bailing out of froggatt in search of less urban population density.

18 Reamed By Percentage - with Gareth Sport 24m, 8 Wharepapa Rock Very Good Sat 20th Nov 2021
Climbed as per original description, left and bridging into the groove at grade 18. Direct as described here is more like 20 and beyond me today.

20 El Tigre Chino - with Gareth Sport 20m, 8 Kawakawa Bay Good Wed 29th Dec 2021
A final quickie before it got too hot up top.

19 Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter Sport 25m, 8 Waipari Very Good Wed 22nd Jun 2022
Between Josh's burns on something a lot harderer. Start always gives me the jitters but it's fine really. Heel hooks tame the top. Ribs saying stop now. Thanks to Mr Shanks for the shiny new rings.

19 School Bus Route - with Gareth, Jonno Rau, Greg, Max Sport 35m, 8 Sheridan Hills Very Good Sun 14th Aug 2022
Off the dog list. Wanders either side of the bolts, just stay on and keep going.

17 Hard WorkSafe - with Gareth Sport 20m, 8 Waipari Good Sat 11th Mar 2023
Could probably call it 17. But it isn't harder than Bonne Anne ;-)

20 The Skink Prince (of Bel Air) - with Gareth Sport 15m, 8 Kawakawa Bay Good Fri 7th Apr 2023
Can't reach the finger lock at the crux directly from the stance, but a thumb press out left and right foot on the wee feature allows shoulder rotation to do the job.

19 Safe Playing - with Jonno Rau Sport 20m, 8 Waipari Good Sat 19th Aug 2023
Warmed up just in time for rain.

16 Jug Addiction - with Gareth Sport 20m, 8 Kawakawa Bay Average Fri 20th Oct 2023
After a morning spent accessing and removing the loose block on Sex Panther.

16 Jug Addiction Sport 20m, 8 Kawakawa Bay Good Wed 20th Feb 2019
Goes on gear, with a couple of runouts. Probably could have hunted around and found more.

17 Pyro Pete Sport 18m, 7 Waipari Average Sat 2nd Jun 2018
It's OK but wouldn't quite call it good. Muddy winter pockets down low and slimy ledge detract from the experience somewhat.

17 Girls, Girls, Girls Sport 20m, 7 Wharepapa Rock Good Sat 30th Jun 2018
Must have done this years ago surely, it's decent. Belay by Rosie and Ohm.

16 Bonne Anne (Bonne Annee) Sport 20m, 7 Waipari Very Good Sat 14th Jul 2018
The best 16 here?

17 Thunder Blaster Sport 20m, 7 Waipari Good Sat 14th Jul 2018
Surely I have done this before? Great fun finish.

16 Heffalump Trap Sport 18m, 7 Pakeho Good Wed 31st Oct 2018
Fun, but squibs the obvious pull through the overlap.

15 Hunny Face Sport 19m, 7 Pakeho Very Good Wed 31st Oct 2018
A honey of a face. Really really nice and not totally straightforward.

17 Girls, Girls, Girls - with Tim Swain Sport 20m, 7 Wharepapa Rock Good Sun 7th Apr 2019
Sucks you left at the start. Decent enough.

16 Bonne Anne - with Tim Swain Sport 20m, 7 Waipari Very Good Thu 13th Jun 2019
A bit greasy and nervy at top. Hell of a 16.

16 Strange New Worlds Sport 23m, 7 Wharepapa Rock Good Sat 24th Aug 2019
Bloody cold fingers.

17 Girls, Girls, Girls - with Gareth Sport 20m, 7 Wharepapa Rock Good Sat 31st Aug 2019
Nice position on the arete. Still not warm.

18 Space, The Final Frontier - with Angela Hewlett, Colin Sport 23m, 7 Wharepapa Rock Very Good Sun 15th Sep 2019
Much fun again. Head left after bolt 3 and save some oomph for the top dihedral.

19 Pinch and a Punch - with Gareth Hall Sport 20m, 7 Kawakawa Bay Very Good Mon 24th Feb 2020
Unfinished business. Was expecting a fight, but cruised it. Really good.

18 Space, The Final Frontier Sport 23m, 7 Wharepapa Rock Very Good Sat 16th May 2020
Hot! Made a bit of a mess of the overhanging dihedral, 2 months of slacking not helpful.

18 Dogs Breakfast - with Grant Johnston Sport 17m, 7 Waipapa Good Sun 31st May 2020
Traversed in across the face which is a bit tetchy. Avoided the mantle by climbing up at its left edge (better). Think this route is supposed to go straight up the arete from the bottom but that is very unappetisingly green after rain.

17 Girls, Girls, Girls Sport 20m, 7 Wharepapa Rock Good Sat 4th Jul 2020
Warmup.

18 Space, The Final Frontier - with Jonno Sport 23m, 7 Wharepapa Rock Very Good Sat 21st Nov 2020
Warmup? No bridging thru middle.

17 Girls, Girls, Girls - with Gareth, Wade Sport 20m, 7 Wharepapa Rock Good Sun 14th Mar 2021
Back on pocket bingo, a bit strange and sharpish after the south island.

18 Space, The Final Frontier - with Grant Johnston Sport 23m, 7 Wharepapa Rock Very Good Sat 24th Apr 2021
A favourite.

16 Heffalump Trap - with Grant Johnston Sport 18m, 7 Pakeho Good Sat 15th May 2021
Hard start on wet mossy slime. Great fun above.

17 Topless - with Grant Johnston Sport 16m, 7 Pakeho Good Sat 15th May 2021
Clean.and dry. Somehow less good than it looks, maybe it's just me.

17 Girls, Girls, Girls Sport 20m, 7 Wharepapa Rock Good Sat 18th Sep 2021
Community service putting the pull cord back up

18 Space, The Final Frontier - with Gareth Sport 23m, 7 Wharepapa Rock Very Good Sat 4th Dec 2021
Rock still mostly dry but belaying not, rain setting in. Time to leave.

18 Powder Queen - with Max, Jonno Sport 20m, 7 Waipari Very Good Sun 19th Dec 2021
One off the dog list. Bridged far too wide up the leaning corner then cut loose at the jug but managed to paste myself back on. Absorbing top secton once you commit to the bulge. Well worth doing, less pumpy and more technical than Terror.
