Ascents as Red point, Ground up red point or Greenpoint as sport by John Pitcairn

A Saturday evening faff around gaining access to the tops of Super Natural and Bi Curious George to fix ropes for cleaning. Linked P1-2 only, considerable rope drag at the dirty top out. Replaced the old hand line snaplink above Super Natural with a stainless maillon. Ran out of time and did no actual cleaning.

Warmup. The first of the two good pitches for the route (P5 is the other). Bloody nice.

P1 only. Crux gave no trouble this time, just a bit crimpy. Grant didn't want to go through the roof so we didn't do P2.

Hardish start, stay left into the gorse. Ow. It has now been pruned a bit. You can get down on a 56m rope.

Misread the initial moves up to the arete and made it harder than it really is, ha. Angela definitely out of her comfort zone seconding pitch 1.

Got out there early before the hordes arrive and start queueing. 5 years since I last led this and every move seemed new. One long pitch is the way to go, but if so your seconds need to be aware of the rope stretch at the low crux (which is not 16).

Consistent all the way. A lot of lichen makes it hard to spot the feet and at times you are on lichen slopers. High priority for a clean. Topped out through some dead bushy stuff I didn't remember being there, couldn't find the anchor, then discovered a tree had died and fallen right onto it. Considerable swearing while balanced on more lichen. Got anchored then spent a while wrenching the tree off and sent it down. Rap cleaned. This will be bloody great after a good brush.

Better than High Hopes. Could use a clean but not too bad, maybe 18 as is. Nice view of parties on cruxes of After The Sunset and The Odyssey.

Fully bolted now, thanks Bryce. Nice climbing and exposure out on the arete. Stay on the arete, don't go right into the tempting cave of doom near the top, and if you do, don't decide to just punch straight out the top of it, which adds a couple of grades and no bolts. That got the heart going.

Been a while. Clean and controlled. Nice top belaying in the sun. Prob not the best Waipapa intro for Matt.

Good exposure at the crux.

Alzheimers onsight. Nice sustained 17-18 to a great rest before tackling the crux, where the holds are smaller and the moves longer. Pleased I can still do it. Freeclimb guide says 21, maybe only one or two moves though.

A 2m sling might help manage the rope drag induced by the shared bolting at the top.

Enjoying this more and more, easy exposed arete ramble to strong off balance crux after passing the cave of doom.

Easy fun cruise until the cave of doom then solid for a few moves after that.

Felt reasonably sustained.

Wasps en-route but fairly docile. Better than I remember.

Pocket bingo face climbing, not my favourite style. Fun route finding at the top though.

Without the drizzle this time, managed to remember my onsight attempt beta and nailed it, well pleased. A constant series of cruxes and no-hands rests in a great position, it's an excellent sport route that I'd do again.

7.30pm and finally starting to cool off a bit. No warmup just punch it and milk the rests. Got a bit too focused and accidentally skipped the crux bolt. Bloody great, and off the unsent list.

Off the unsent list. Rather good. Stayed mostly on or near left arete through middle, though somebody claimed the face is easier. Can't see it.

Find the rests after you leave the arete. They are there!

Take the time to think about the crux sequence before you make the moves and it flows very well.

It seems unlikely that I have never led this. Warmup, belay by Rosie and Ohm.

Some sharp holds through the overhang crux. No panic, plenty of time to work it through, but finished with a very numb finger.

Struggled a bit with the crux clip

Much better friction than last visit, happy. A fairly thin crux, another tricksy spot nearer the top.

I'd forgotten about the crux. This is great! Removed a couple of bail maillons from it, there is a short chain anchor just right for exactly that purpose.

Borderline classic and pumpier than it looks. Great fun.

Clipped from the sharp hold above the bolt. Works well setting up for the next bit.

Engaging, stay a whisker left/below the bolts at the start traverse to avoid a nervy step across.

Actually pretty fun. Just dry enough at bottom. Straight up the guts/crack through the low scoop makes that the crux.

Time to leave, still something left for the crux on this but no time to muck around, find the damn feet. Best 18 here.

Forgot a lot of beta through the middle, managed to clip from a tiny hold then found the jug. Got the top pretty right at least. Happy enough. Cleaned on abseil.

Hot humid day. Pumpy warmup.

A bit tetchy in the new shoes, sensitivity not there yet. Felt 18 as a result.

Benchmark 20, if it's harder than this it's 21...

Rock getting a bit warm, but probably the smoothest I've ever managed. The small crux sidepull flake is flexing, somebody will get a surprise soon.

Side pull flake still present.

Warmup? Across to the Critters anchor for a 1.5 hour effort getting the big midway flake off that and raining big chunks down. Aidan got the draws off just before rain arrived.

Fun arete

An experimental traverse to hang under the crux bulge was not a good idea. Reversed that then did the proper move. Quite a tenuous nervy move rightward above the bulge will get you going.

Enjoyable arete

Not been on this for quite a while I think. Really good, varied climbing.

Fun warmup.

The best 17 here?

Some holds have come off at low crux. Still 17. Great position, nice climbing.

Direct at bottom crux a smidge harder now two bits have broken off. Still 17.

Much easier than it looks from the ground.

Nice. One slick foothold on top arete.
