Nice, with a tricky crux

A nice line, with chimney and arete. Glad it was bolted.

About as good as grade 16 trad gets in the Port Hills, which isn’t saying much. Still, a fun line with decent gear.

Quite fun actually!

Some interesting moves, but the decomposing holds at the crux detract from the quality. Another one with ground fall potential from the top.

Given 25 points on both the old and the new Port Hills guides, which seems appropriate. Thin crux leads to better holds, but with ground fall potential from the top, so be careful! I didn’t place any gear, didn’t look trustworthy in any case.

Finally unlocked the crux, which is extremely thin and fingery. Will come back with some trad gear and have a proper crack soon. 25 in Tony’s guide, which seems accurate. Certainly a harder crux than other 25s at Lyttelton.

Quite nice at the grade, another case of a seldom done route that will surely be popular with the new bolts.

Amazing how some shiny new bolts will make a previously ignored piece of rock look appealing!

Been bolted but couldnt see any other placement on the arete for trad except the start crack. Pretty big run out if so.

Fun climb

Dirty and hard for the grade.

No gear so it’s an 8-meter runout to the anchor. Not soft for the grade either. Chickened out and chose the moderate fall over the potential for a very serious whipper.

onsight solo of obvious line, very nice

A little scary with spikey bushes beneath you and slippery red lychen on the rock. Runout.

I cant see the next bolt without my binoculars!
