Pretty on straight off the deck, was glad to have the first bolt stick clipped (a good stick available on the ledge). Up and down-climbed the mantle crux a couple of times before finding a comfy way through.

Super fun bouldery start, followed by insecure slab climbing. This pitch just keeps on going. The texture on that orange rock is wild, you stick like velcro.

Sooooo good!!! Had a long rest and a bit of lunch before starting up this, and I was feeling quite jittery when I finally started. Got pumped pretty quickly in the overhang looking for the good holds and was relieved when I realised you could rest sitting on the stalactite - except my rope got stuck and I had to downclimb a bit to free it before I could rest. Jeeeez. Managed to dyno to a jug after the rest and trucked my way up to a long move out left where the pump got too much. What a wild ride!

My brain was struggling on this pitch. The cumulative tiredness from the weekend hit and I was forgetting how to rock climb, and fuck me, 60m is a lot of rock climbing. Topped out and shared some victory choccy. Absolute bliss! An incredible day on rock. | 220m, 18 | Bungonia Gorge | ★★★ Mega Classic | Mon 12th Jun 2023 | |||
First time in bungonia and first time climbing limestone. Pretty blown away by the whole experience. Done in 10hrs car to car at a very leisurely pace. Crazy contrast between the juggy steep orange walls and the grey slabs - which took me most of the day to get comfy trusting my feet on.

An excellent day's chossaneering with Thirsty. We climbed with 2 60m twins. Did 3 rappels on the way in (could have gotten away with 2 if we skipped the first U-bolts). Clipped first bolt on traverse while rappelling, but there's a slot for a #3 camalot (which we also used on the Welsh dragon's third pitch). To escape we swung across the gap to skip the aid pitch of Welsh dragon.
We drew straws and I won/lost and got/had to do the first pitch. This pitch has it all! Pulling onto the south face after the choss traverse and looking up was quite daunting. A bit of anti-barn-door knee action, cutting feet with a pinch on the arete and crunchy fins before finally topping out the most adventurous pitch of climbing I have ever done. The second pitch has an exciting start, maybe more so for the seconder. In fact I generally found seconding more difficult today on this and the Welsh dragon. Heady. The bouldery third pitch is as advertised. I did my best impression of a bolt-removal device, feet either side of the right anchor bolt, in order to reach the high first bolt. Took a fall trying to stick to climbing the arete on the first attempt. Played around and eventually found a very specific sequence and then went to the top! This should be on everyone's list - just do your best to leave the holds on it for the next group! |

First pitch had me trying very hard. A couple of sections beat me, two big whips. Very fun climbing though. Awesome how consistent it was.
Pitch 2 has its fair share of spice as well! The juggy headwall was the best climbing of the day, mind boggling jugs.
Top pitch is a stark change in style, worthwhile to finish on top of the world! Played 'Hotel Cali' while we topped out, yum! Thanks for being a stinker climbing partner DJ Hemo.

Pleasant. All pitches really quite soft except for one sequence on the first pitch where it looks like a hold has broken off making it more like 20-21.

A meal of ironstone crimps and jugs, with a side of choss, seasoned with a spicy runout or two. Nothing is more inspiring than standing on an ironstone rail with bits of it snapped off.
Surprisingly good climbing. The bolting at the start of the second pitch is just stupid though. I'd take the runout at the end of the pitch when the climbing is easier, instead of during the harder start thanks. Anyway, still better than jumarring 100+ meters. |

Thought onsighting vigilante would be the highpoint of the day, but this may have topped it in a masochistic manner. I think there was maybe four actual holds on the whole route, the rest were what I would categorise as "holds", made useable through desperate creativity, fueled by a strong desire to not have to re-climb each preceding section that you desperately clawed your way through moments ago. The wet rock adds an intriguing element, especially when you are blindly searching for something to put your fingers to use on. Very different to other blue mountains "small-edge slab climbing" and totally a route I will recommend to my friends just so I can see them squirm with an all-too-familiar discomfort.

The rock is mostly lovely. Tough to onsight two cruxy sections (under the influence of ledge-safety), but some cool arete climbing unlocks them.

Really great climbing, but unless the rock is shit elsewhere, the bolts really could have been better positioned. The crux bolt is a biner breaker and virtually all of the top half is soloing at risk of a ledge-fall when it didn't need to be.

Really nice climbing with a crux up the top of pitch two that wasn't hard for the grade. Could lower on an 80 comfortably.

Awesome! Really liked the whole top half of this route! Agree with another comment - unsure why this one didn't get a halfway anchor like the others, as the character changes abruptly at the same height as polar opposite.
