this climb was bolted by a wanker. the bolts are placed just in a way where they arent doing their job properly like cmon guys how hard is it to move a bolt 30 cm higher so that you DONT smash your ankles on a ledge. this has a stupid bolting job which makes the climb bolder for no reason. i love this crag but some of the ethics demonstraited amazingly here are utter nonsense. probably 22

Brilliant route. Fantastic complement to Fall guy. Most definitely "sustained and committing". Keeps going all the way to the top.
Pro good, but some of it hard to get in, esp at the start of the traverse. Traverse up across and down about 40 m to rap rings, then rap 45 m all the way to the track. |
|||||||
18 R | ★ Fall Guy - with Jordi dunlop | 15m | ★★ Very Good
Nice route. I enjoyed it. But lets be clear this is a DEATH route.
The "boulder" move is easier than 18 but it is protect by a cluster of average pieces and you are very close to the ground / ledge. The wall above is much easier, but ... the "jugs" are "ACT granite slab jugs", ie good in-cuts, nice; but half of them are flakes that feel like they could rip off. And it is VERY poorly protected. There are a few placements, but they are tiny (three #3 RPs would be nice) and poor (shallow/behind little flakes). The thin crack at the top offers some better but still average gear, inc a micro cam. The footers are good and the angle is low. You could probably traverse off if you got worried. The climbing was nice, pity it was not five times longer with a few decent placement. |

Last time I (or possibly anyone) will do this route.
After having a few goes on it, I pulled past the second bolt and took a regulation fall. The dogbone of my draw on that bolt had rubbed sufficiently on the rounded edge just below the bolt that when I fell it snapped. The bolt below that then pinged off the wall, and I fell nearly 10 metres. Fortunately I bounced off my heroic belayer's shoulders and slammed into some rocks. This accident could very easily have been a lot worse.
The nature of the bolting on this route lends itself to either the rope or the quickdraws rubbing against the coarse rock. There is no way to protect this route without the potential for large swings that grind your life-saving equipment against jagged edges. I would suggest taking extreme caution to protect your draws and rope before trying this route. Extending the draws mitigates the rope drag on the edge, but you should also consider a protective material between the dogbone and the rock. You will also need to replace the first bolt, due to its rapid departure from the wall. |

Jannice and I were both feeling skittish today and did not have the mental fortitude for this climb. The ominous clouds that persisted throughout the day didn't help. Jannice had a rough time leading the first pitch, and bravely started leading the second pitch when I couldn't be convinced, but could not work up the nerve to start the traverse. She down-climbed back to top of first pitch and we bailed, abandoning some chord and an old carabiner.
I think we both have the ability to climb this and I would like to give it another try. This was just not the day. If this route has several "harder than 13 moves," as mentioned plainly in the description, it should not be graded at a 13. |

Have you done the abseil but realise you left your stove on? Just climb back up the abseil terrain.
You will be effectively soloing most of this due to literally no gear placements, but you'll come out of it a better slab climber (no guarantees) |

Amazing route - well worth doing on its own if you can find the top of it. Have to say it felt exceptionally sustained for a 15. There's a decent 12 to 15 m section of continuous jamming/laybacking with no rests. I had to bump a few cams and if you told me it was a 17 I'd believe you! Made it about halfway up before resting. The top stays very wet after rain and I basically bellyflopped onto the slick belay ledge for a break. Jason did a sterling job grunting his way up, spurred on by threats of having to rap back down to the bottom and walk out! Starting P2 is also much more challenging after rain. Everything was glassy smooth but somehow neither of us came to grief. Awesome experience and one for the repeat tick list if I ever get stronger.

Insanely good day out! Arrived to find the bottom gate closed, which added an extra 6 km of hiking to our trip but helped burn off those Christmas calories. Crashed about at the top looking for rings and eventually rapped down what turned out to be Nothing Left. First two pitches were immense. Can't be many climbs where you get to jam, layback, bridge and then slab all in the first 40 m! Made a minor error overkeenly reading the topo description and thought I had to climb the thin crack splitting the slab to reach the layback section. Made for a nice bonus pitch coming back down and I'd say is similarish in difficulty. The traverse on P3 was epic and made sure Jason's first multi will be remembered. Pitch 4 is not to be underestimated... The diagonal rightwards crossing of the break is tricky to get on and off, and I couldn't figure out any way to protect it against a ledge fall. In hindsight I'd recommend putting something in on the left before starting out, even though it feels way off line, but I might have missed something. After that it's miles of bush-bashing that had me wondering what was going on, but then I saw P5 and everything made sense! P5 is brilliant - more on that below. The whole thing was very much worth the trek, but in retrospect I'd hesitate taking a beginner up it again, even if they are strong like Jason.

We planned for Jannice to lead pitches 1 and 3, and I would lead pitches 2 and 4, but Jannice ended up running pitch 1 and 2 together (which is also what happened the first time I climbed this route as a seconder).

When planning this route, I deliberately asked not to lead pitch 3, as the overhung start made me nervous. It ended up being really good for me that Jannice accidentally ran pitches 1 and 2 together, leaving me to lead this pitch. The overhung block start is much easier than it looks, with plenty of protection. I actually found the steepening groove/crack section after the start much harder and more interesting, and was very pleased with my clean and measured lead through there. Jannice and Penny had very validating reactions when they seconded that section.

As stated in my initial log of this route as a seconder with Meg and Jarrah, I was keen to come back and lead it someday, and I finally did! It's even better on lead, and I look forward to repeating and enjoying Sunstroke many times in the future with friends, and hopefully with clients. I would love to eventually log leads of every pitch. It was great to bring Penny along as the seconder. She greatly enjoyed the multipitch adventure and the stunning views.

A fun ramble, some quality choss, a bit sandbagged but well protected.

decided against doing the Carezzissima exit and accidentally against doing the original finish too. went straight up the enticing crack between the two. don't recommend if 13 is close to limit | 50m | ★★★ Classic
great choice of route for my first time at Booroomba. good gear. bits of sprinkle and some strong wind. luckily spots of sun kept the warmth and psyche up.

Weather turned and couldn't feel fingers so we down climbed and left. Soloed to the second bolt of equanimity and I'm certain I can do it with a rope

Sweet climbing, although the beginning is absolutely buggered. Everything I touched promptly fell off. Interested to learn why adding bolts to the start was so controversial. You'd have to be doubly hard-as-nails to even think about leading it now.

Took a little while to summon the courage for the initial step up, not helped by the wetness. Rest of P1 was a doddle and P2 really excellent. Can't recommend P3. Much better to finish up the Balance undercling and there's no gear from the top of that to the end.
