The best. I had a good fight on this, pulling as hard as I could but eventually succumbing to flash pump and the difficulties of onsighting at a cruxy section. That was the only fall I took though which im super stoked about but due to time constraints and there being a party if three ahead of us there was no chance for a second shot. Ultimately just such an awesome day out, pulling the best moves in a wild location. I ended up sort of accidentally skipping the belay ledge and topping out on the very summit of the Tote to cheering tourists. I then slung the summit block to belay Harry right up to the too as well. No real dramas, just a good day of rock climbing.

Watched Harry absolutely cruise up this for the onsight which was insanely awesome and then did it pretty easily when my turn came, despite being absolutely smashed by a huge wave as I swung across. Belayed from the mainland which was great too and meant I stayed mainly dry until I started to climb. Mostly very well bolted but an #0.5 camalot straight off the belay is super useful so you don't land in the ocean and then a medium (BD #6) nut and a #0.4 camalot up high on the easy climbing. An amazing pitch all up but it would probably be 22 at Piddo

The weather was perfect, the swell was small and the rock grippy (Despite being wet). With the first wire placed on a sketchy start, I couldn't help but think that Tom was going scuba diving if he fell and the wire popped lol. Tom, being the boss that he is just cranked hard and pushed to the end of the first pitch with only a single fall. I followed him up next with quite a few rests, feeling very out of my comfort zone I managed to get to the top. Amazing rock quality and style of climbing!

The quality of climbing and the sandpaper sticky rock makes this climb a mega classic on its own, being a pillar in the ocean between two cliffs just makes it all that more special. I found the climbing to be extremely hard and felt very out of my depth. Committing moves and cool types of climbing on this bad boy. I will never forget this day and feel very privileged to have been able to share this climbing adventure with Tom. Thanks for all the photos/videos Martin and Nick.

Great route! Happy with an onsight although felt like it could be more on the 22/23 side, or I just read it well. Swing across with the rap rope was quite straight forward too and got it first go. Low tide meant everyone stayed dry. Small green WC #2 nut right off the belay was solid and backed up by a 0.2 cam. Several hangers then optional 0.5/0.75 cam at easy section to top.

Gear beta: Right off the belay one or two cams behind flake (0.3/0.4/0.5) to protect till first hanger. After the row of hangers #2cam on left, then one more hanger. (foot beta: just after big prominent triangle hold, right foot onto arete not lhs face)

Adventurous rope management, epic position and staggering sustained arete movement for the full 40m of the money pitch. Hard, thin, tricky to read but blessed by sticky rock. This is truly world-class and I am stoked to be a part of it.

Top Rope Solo pitches 2 and 3 only. Not clean. Very different to the Free Route. More face featured, blocky and crack-y. Slightly worse rock, more intimidating location. P2 (26) is brilliant (especially the steep stemming out of the initial alcove) which gets harder all the way to the bouldery crux to gain anchors. P3 (27) is extremely hard for the 1st 1/2 and is tenuous, strenuous, thrutchy and powerful. I pulled past 2 moves I couldn't quite do. The upper half is gr23/24 thin crack climbing.

Early birthday present! What a rad outing. Like the Free Route, but with proper physical, burly climbing. The crux pitch is very sustained in the bottom half. Gale force winds made this a griping, shivering, barn-dooring experience.
P1 - Self-belay shennanigans after the belay got dumped by waves. After self-belaying to the end-of-pitch anchor, I fixed the rope there, and back-tracked to undo my self-belay anchor so Jared could rap all the way to the P2 belay from the mainland. P2 - Hard fought, unchalked onsight. The top 5m is fierce arete slapping. I almost gave up at the last bolt as I struggled to clip mid-barndoor, but just squeaked it. P3 - 4th shot total (including onsight attempt and a TRS lap). On my 3rd shot I fell off on tbe last move of the last hard sequence. Stacked techo climbing, with no shutdown crux. |

Pitch 1 and 2, from all accounts Deep play is the better line to take for P1 rope drag was horrendous, had the day for it though, seals 6ft below us, pods of dolphins, low swell no wind purrrrfect... too bad the MonStars took my climbing abilities 😅 amazing arete climbing on stunning rock in an amazing location will be back again for the send happy days

Deep Play clean on 2nd. 2nd pitch clean lead placing draws and gear. Amazing route in an amazing location and I consider this the biggest achievement in my climbing so far

Second pitch OS - did the Deep Play variation for 1st pitch. I think I may have sandbagged myself at one point tho.. hard to read!
