First day at Frog!!! w/Duncan Steel

There's a few tricky bits on this route. w/Simon and Monique

Shame about the ledge. Climbing to the ledge is ok, off the ledge is great. A very hard crux (that I couldn't do) leads to the top face crack that is amazingly awesome at about 26. I tried this briefly after I did BCT and it made BCT feel like walking down the street.

Chucked a TR on this to see what is need to send this. Ended up doing all the crux moves with the help of Duncan's YouTube beta. Very cool sequences. Feels doable.

First time back on after 17 years. A bit of an exploration following Duncan's funeral to feel that connection again and consider if I want to commit further. [11]

Commencing the campaign. 2 working TR burns. [13]

Hot, 15-17C and 65%. Zero breeze. 2x TR burns both with 1 fall at crux #2. Very good considering conditions. [15]

Overnight rain and drizzle in the morning. No wind. 85% humidity. Burn 1 shaky to ledge, fell on crux 2, then climbed from the bolt to the top clean in the worst conditions. Almost as proud of this effort as a clean send. - Burn 2 more confident. Fell crux 2, then for some reason my boots just started visibly sliding off the holds [17]

No wind at the cliff but at least dry. Almost fell off the start. Did fall on crux 2 and decided to throw out my beta for something new with one shot remaining. Didn't go to top. [18]

So, so happy to come full circle this particular journey that has so much meaning because of Duncan and his role in my climbing and life. 10 days, but split by 17 years. So crazy. In this instance, the grade of the route has no meaning to me. But with few repeats it's probably important to at least contribute an opinion. Two of the seven previous ascentionists have suggested 31 for a pre-placed gear ascent. I'm happy enough to agree with that, noting that when this route is led placing the gear, which I see happening soon, I feel 32 is deserved. [19]

Learnt a lot, this rig is epic. Classy, technical sustained face climbing. Thanks to everyone who supported me!

1 fall at crux..obviously. Back on below crux and clean to anchors....now why can't I do this from the ground???

Had one go on top rope in the sun. amazing and technical climbing.

SUPER DOPE. What a rad crux! Only made it two bolts up, but stoked to figure out the crux beta. Couldn't make the mega-highstep work for me, so I chanced upon some solid alt beta. Skipped the O/W start as I was spooked with the lack of gear. Will try it next time!

Way out of my league, but quality climbing in an awesome position

Yeah baby we're back! Made it past the crux to the first rooflet on this burn. Figured out solid beta for low arete crux, as well as gear and beta for the offwidth start, which isn't too bad once you get the knack.

Made it to the headwall. Jugged up raprope to clip one of them. New positions of bolts around the rooflets post-rebolt are questionable ... both have been moved a foot higher than the old bolt positions, and our of reach of comfortable clipping positions. Not very well thought out.

Highpoiiiint! Got up past crux to the mid-way corner then slipped off, missing the good gaston. Then, gale-force winds came in and climbing got really stressful, so toproped the rest. Did all moves but for one pulling onto the base of the final arete. Feeling very psyched.

Top rope solo morning. All the moves are done, not fully dialled in but semi-memorised! Getting psoiiiiched!

Popped off at first crux. Missed foot placement.

Felt good all through to halfway corner balancy-ness. Ticked the wrong footers which blew the sequence facepalm

Agonisingly close, but a bloody fun go! Through bottom and middle cruxes, to fall at last crux, about 2m from the end of the main business. Ran out of juice for the long lock-off. Think I had 1 sit then to the top. Would've gone if I was more power-endurance fit. Looks like no time to get back out there this year unfortunately, so I'm looking forward to next season! Best single pitch I've ever been on.
