Ascents in Halfway House

2nd shot. Downclimbed Maponus p1, leaned across to first bolt and climbed from there. This is the route's second ascent.

very close to the onsight but Adam the funny man chalked up some blank rock at the crux throw in the hope that I would go for it...and I did! Bastard. Got it second go linking from the top of voluptuous.

Worth going up for. Awesome position at the top. Take the time to look around while you are climbing this gem!!!

Tried this as the last climb of the day so was a little powered out. Absolute savage finish. Keen for a re-match.

Very careful gear placement needed on the start of this one

I feel honoured to have been a part of the first ascent team. Cameron lead the first pitch and I lead the variant second pitch and then Cam lead the direct second pitch. We each seconded the other.

don't do this with no trad!!! Dangerous I am stupid

Start: At the black corner about 10m L of The Court Jester and 3m R of where the track angles steeply uphill. Climb the corner with tricky protection to rooflet with good gear. Around this and slab up R a fair way over blocks passing a FH to rap station.

OK climbing. Better with new anchor.

Erik fell into the rectolotomy tree when seconding. This would be bad if you fell on lead!

Trad route?? Ok then.... slung some shrubs at the top with a few draws and slunk up to the anchors......

Interesting smooth, slopey moves that required a lot of confidence and trust for me. Some highsteps and balance and it was all over. Done w/out trad. The topout was good mental training ...

Linked with Gut Punch the Buddha. In my opinion, there's no other way to go if you want to do Maponus p2. It's a continuous straight line bottom to top for 37m! You can rap back down to the ledge easy, as well. Aside from this, p2 was sick. A cool mix of crimpy face and some jams/fingerlocks, with surprisingly bombproof wires, and a great easy slab topout to boot!

Quite an apt name! Interesting moves up the corner. Bomber gear.

Slopy and balancy

This wasn’t that good. The 1st pitch was great!

Martino lead us up a dodgy trad pitch which he ate up cos hes secretly a big sketchy trad fiend. I rambled the following 35m which was actually quite nice up to caritas which marty took. A screamer sequence at the top of that corner. Such a corker. I was so stoked with maponus that i lowered off without detaching the trolley and took marty for a victory swing. Lunch and arvo sesh at slider with ben and dan pretending again to be a 25 climber. Geoffman almost made it to the crag after a beach day. Bottom of lower slider. Good effort from him.

Didn't really find that much gear. Had to keep a clear head.

Pretty epic position. The last 15m I couldn't find any gear, easy terrain though.

Great at the start. Bit chossy in the second half.

Start: At Jester?s rap station atop pitch one of the original. Head into corner and up for 3m. Step R for 3m underneath suspended flake (above the 24 section). Up for 4m and finish as for pitch two of original.

15m (15) Bouldery moves off the deck to good holds. Trend R up obvious corner/weakness. Easily negotiate shrubbery to arrive at large triangle ledge. Shared rap station on R end of ledge. The two FH's leading up from here are for The Sword In The Stone's second pitch (24).1) 25m (17) Continue up corner 3m, step L into next corner and up for 4m. Step L out of corner and climb over short steep bit (crux). Walk easily up slab to find rap station underneath large roof. 30m rap to Clemency Terrace.

This is actually the original second pitch and then Cameron Fairbairn put up a more direct line on two bolts later in the day but it goes at 24.
