Ascents in North-West Serra Range as Retreat

shut down in the run out between the 6th and 7th bolt. should have bought a nut to place in the crack.

Caution! I pulled a good part of a ledge off this soon after the crux and took a large whipper. Three large blocks and lots of small rocks rained down on my belayer who just managed to jump hard and swing with my whipper up and out of the way. Could have been a bad accident. And had anyone else been below at the time it very likely would have. Helmets would not have helped against those blocks.

I don't agree with the description about this route or this crag generally that there are a few small rocks that will clear up with more activity. There is a whole band of rotten rock on this wall that will keep shearing off. It is not a matter of kicking off a few loose rocks to find hard rock underneath. The holds have formed as sharp side pulls and flakes because that is how the rock here is fracturing. This is not your average Grampians rock.

Rained out

Dogged my way up to the 3rd draw. Skipped a bit I couldn't do then bailed when it rained.

It looked loose from the ground and I was right. Took 2 falls due to pulling off holds. Bailed out.

Loved it till it started to pour, definitely coming back to retrieve my bail biner sometime

Climbing like a clown, got to the run outs and pooed. Climbing was beautiful until I lost my head.

Very tricky moves through the middle, and one point where it's possible to accidentally go off route, a few bolts below the ledge, where you hit a mini roof where you could go left or right and the next bolt isn't visible. Turns out the answer is left, and the bolt is hidden around an arete. Took a rest after getting lost at that point, and then bailed off left after reaching the ledge, to access some new trad lines spotted from the ground. Will definitely have to come back and do the route in its entirety.

Got past the crux a a couple of times after hanging on the second bolt, but never managed to get it clean from the ground up. Next time, Gadget, next time.

Spent way too much time searching for the holds on the initial overhanging section. Rested on the 3rd bolt (crux), then pumped out, gave up, and lowered off after the 5th bolt. It definitely would have helped to try to spot the holds more from the ground before starting!

Well.... tried to warm up on this and got pretty scared. I guess i haven't lead for a very long time. This is a sport climb in the old guide and it is really run out on the second top.

Really delicate sort of climbing. I got pretty scared after the undercling move and retreated. I need to get better in my head~
