Ascents in The Sunny Side as trad by Scott Godwin

First proper jamming test post surgery. Ankle felt stiff but ok.

Another unsend? Slipped off down low. Fell onto a good rp. The rest felt much harder than I remembered.

Got scared of the dirty top out. Clipped a draw on our fixed rap line that was hanging conveniently close.

Tried to go ground up but got completely shut down by the high step/rock over move at the crux. Aided through and had a few goes on top rope, but still couldn't manage it. Doable by reaching out left into Roxanne, but that seems like cheating.

So hard. The moves seem fairly obvious, but I couldn't do them.

10 traxion laps, then one lead lap with Greg. Shoulder feeling better than expected, which was encouraging.

Good to finally put this one to rest after flailing on it a few years back. Headpoint style. Toproped twice first and found the gaston beta for the crux to go surprisingly smoothly, and worked out the best wires for the critical placement (black brass offset at the back of the slot, with a grey peanut at the front). They seem pretty good, but probably still best not to fall from the moves just after the crux.

I think I'd done this once before ages ago. Tricky start.

Foot slipped on the layback at the bottom. Fell onto a good wire. Clean second go.

Sussed the gear placements. Not super inspiring. The last wire protecting the crux is good, but the ones below that are behind a suspect flake.

Really good. Gear is better than it looks.

Top rope solo while I waited for the others to show up.

With Baz. Good micro route. After falling off a few times I was happy to have done this clean at what seemed like about 23 until Baz found some sneaky beta that makes it more like 20.

Wigged out at the layback again.

Head wasn't in it today. Wussed out at the climbing above the bolt. Did it ok after a rest.

Seconded in the dark to get out.

One lead then 12 laps on top rope. Quick after work crack fitness session.

Cleaning up an old dog. Classic gorge crack climbing. Intense for a short route.

With Austen. A one move wonder, and the one move is a crappy lichenous mantle.

Calling this a flash because I followed Grant's advice and pre-placed a couple of runners on abseil. It would have been tricky to place them blind on lead. Nice, balancy climbing.

Another classic gorge route. Short, but action packed. Sustained, tricky and varied. Struggled with thoughts of losing my fingers in the locks on the lead. Managed it clean first go on top rope afterwards.

A couple of laps while we were here. Must be the best moderate crack in the gorge. If only it was three times longer.

Fell three or four times at the second bolt crux. Worked out the foot position eventually. The next crux is maintaining the contrivance by by not stepping across into Lingham.

Classic gorge climbing. Packs a lot into 10 metres. Was very glad to find the good RP to protect the weird cruxy bit.
