Fun start. Be sure to use extended draws, especially if you're planning to run pitch 1 and 2 together. Rope drag builds up fast.

I ran pitches 1 and 2 together. Nice roomy belay ledge/area at top of pitch 2.

Probably the trickiest climbing on the route is just after the start of pitch 3. Some delicate climbing on steeper terrain, being wary of some tempting but unreliable flakes.

I ran pitches 3 and 4 together. The final moves of pitch 4 are great fun - well protected pull onto a headwall. I regret continuing after pitch 3, I should've stopped and had Penny lead pitch 4.

If I'm understanding the pitches correctly on this climb, pitch 5 is not anywhere near 25 metres. It's basically just a two bolt scramble between anchor points. It's not even entirely necessary to climb pitch 5, you can scramble off fairly safely from the top of pitch 4 using the green rope used for assisting with the descent walk. | 110m | ★★ Very Good
A great route for building my confidence with taking people with minimal experience up multi-pitches.

Get the tall person in your party to clip the first bolt or bring a stick clip. I'm 5'7", and standing tip-toe on the big base block I couldn't reach the bolt. Personally, not worth risking the spinal injury pulling onto the main wall off the block before that first bolt is clipped. From there, excellent fun. I had a hard time finding the bolts for the top belay. Once you clip the last bolt and head over the ledge, go into the jungle on the right side of the shrub tree, all the way to the back wall. Double u-bolts to clip for the first pitch anchor.

Delightful, thoughtful slab. Fun start. I stuck to the crack and kept right for a little too long at the start. Made it work, but as I was pulling onto a massive undercling block, I heard the dreadful crackling of separating sandstone. I took as much weight off it as I could and thankfully it didn't come loose, but future climbers should be careful about pulling on it. Favor the leftside slab at the start.

More precise slabbing, and then two separate headwalls toward the top, not to be trifled with. First headwall was harder in my opinion. | 40m, 14 | ★ Good

This one was pretty straight forward, and don't really remember much about it. Still fun though, and a nice way to ease into things. If you didn't want to climb this pitch, there's a pretty easy walk around to the right of it to get on top.

At the start of this, I really wanted to take a harder more direct route further to the right, using a decent left hand jug as a side pull; but even though I could get up that first move, I very quickly ran out of holds I could use to finish it off. Ended up just going to the left, using the tree as a bit of a foot, and basically just reaching straight up to the ledge above and pulling up onto it, which almost felt like cheating. After the short walk, the step across to the 'main' part of this pitch made me have to think for a second, as it was a little intimidating stepping across the drop. Was pretty fun though, some cool moves, and fairly decent features to work with. From what I remember, this definitely felt like the easier of the two 17's on this climb.

This was a pretty cool pitch. It looks deceptively flatter/easier from the base of it than it does once you get on the wall. I don't remember a lot about the start of this, I think I started off trying something more to the right, but then came back and approached it from the left in the end. I remember there was one particularly tough part (crux) near'ish to the beginning where I had to trust some little crimpers/tiny toes to get through, definitely made some noise through that. Eases up again as the climb goes on, and the end of it was fairly clean/easy climbing.

The first 80-90% of this pitch is basically like a walk/rock scramble, WAY easier than an 18.. right up until that final boulder, which just looked impossible in comparison. Spent a bit of time looking it over, but in the end I decided that I wouldn't be able to hold strong enough on the crimps and tiny toes that I could reach. Ended up working my way up it by hanging on the rope/setting my position, pulling up on the crimps/feet that I had, then sitting back on the rope to do it all again. I think it took maybe 2-3 of those moves till I got to a position where I could properly climb the rest of the way up. I never really expected I was going to get this one clean, but I'm pretty happy that I managed to get up it (albeit hang dog) without having to be pulled up/assisted/rescued. | 52m, 32 | ★★ Very Good

Surely this will eventually become a local bumbly classic on par with Sweet Dreams? Genuinely easy low angle climbing with decent rock quality. First pitch is a bit grotty but after that I thought it was clean enough.
Highly recommended to use the descent gully with the fixed ropes. Walking around via the north walls and main wall is very overgrown right now and a tricky bushwalk. |
