A bit confusing from the start. We couldn't find the proper start, so we climbed a 6a to get to the first anchors. Grades were a bit sandbag, I guess it's classic grading system from the old days... 6a felt like 6b, 6c+ felt like 7a.

Went out with a local guide Philippe. Super short approach, 5min drive from La Palud and 2 min walk from the lookout. Recent route, bolted in 2015 in between some classics. First pitch was mega long, pumped out near the end and rested before the finish. Phillipe shouted out his phone was ringing as he seconded up. I took the rope in while he answered questions in a radio interview about the verdon! Rain started to pick up near the end of the climb. Couldn't pull the crux move on the last pitch on first go, rested and the wall became soaked. Luckily, friends who had just topped out threw down a top rope and helped me through the last 10m in the pouring rain. Safe to say, Phillipe was freezing down at the belay.

In the new guidebook the last 4 pitches get 6b grading, which is fair enough. I did bail after the fourth pitch though as it was too painful to climb slabs on a hot day with new shoes ..

I sat on the rope a little, whipped as well. It was a pretty hot day and we were mostly climbing in the sun. Every step on those Verdon footholds was very painful. The big toes are not used to this style of climbing I reckon. Insane! The quote of the day ended up being: Come on Dimi, Allez! Courage! You are just climbing a 6a+ I found it pretty interesting how every pitch had traversing bits. I usually froth traverses. By the time we got to the top I think I got to understand a little better the Verdon style and what one needs to do to climb here. So Stoked!!!!! Such a unique place!

Challenging for the whole pitch. 2 6a+ Sport lead by ToxicD Pretty cool traverse to the right. Afterwards steep face climbing in jugs (if you find them). 3 6a+ Second lead by Fabian Michel Starts with a steep dihedral, some good holds and underclings. The crux is a tricky traverse to the right. 4 6a+ Sport lead by ToxicD Two Crux sequences. One at the start and one at the end before the tree. Vertical face climbing on pockets and crimps. 5 6a+ Second lead by Fabian Michel Starts with a traverse to reach the huge dihedral to the right. Amazing 4 pitch route! 8a, 7b, 7c+, 7c+ (last pitch was supposed to be a 6c+ but we missed the easy exit and topped out on a 7c+ grey slab in the dark) nearest I came from falling was while leading the 7b gardening pitch!

If you did the variant 6a+ last pitch instead of the 6c+ pitch, this would be the Bunny Bucket Buttress of the Verdon. Each pitch is better than the last, and the top 3 are rad and hard! I led the odd-numbered pitches (linked p3 & 4), and was stoked to onsight the crux final pitch in the rain. Stunning nails blank 40m slab that kept me fighting the whole way. Did the 200m abseil in torrential rain, hid in a cave for 3 hours, then had an epic retreat across the flooded verdon river via tyrolean.

The first three pitches are good, but this climb is a classic because of the last three pitches. The last one is just amazing: in parts slightly overhanging with pockets - this reminded me a bit of the Frankenjura.

What a great route! Had to fight really hard, not only in the hardest pitch. Offwidth- and chimney climbing is nothing I’m used to so no idea about the grade - but there are 7bs where I wasn’t so pumped afterwards.

Epic route! The true verdon experience! Runouts galore, no fall zones, tricky route finding, and an absolutely mega classic sustained crux pitch on a striking arete. Overall, the route climbed very similarly to a trad line, with the most common sequences being delicate laybacks on technical smeary feet. Probably the best sport multi I've ever done!

First route in the Verdon and man is the exposure crazy here. The first couple of pitches were a little intimidating and insecure for the grade. But once we got to the crux pitches, the angle and quality got cranked right up to 11!!! Climbing continuously hard moves on that slightly overhanging wall with that exposure had me hootin!!!

Amazing route, what a way to spend a birthday! Lead every pitch clean including running the last 2 together (not recommended). 6b+ is hard but has great moves. Some holds are slightly polished (by my inexperienced Aussie standards, maybe by Verdon standards its not polished at all) but this doesn't detract from the experience at all, there was no slips so it was fine.

Alternate leads with me starting on lead and finishing seconding. % Not sure if we only did 4 pitches though - might have gone onto another route and done 6 as supposedly there are only 4 pitches on this route! Dogged on middle of first pitch on some tricky slab!

Upper 6 pitches only of ULA as that includes all of the famous crack climbing. Alternate leads with me starting and also leading the first half of the last pitch as Seb was exhausted and wasn't keen leading in the dark! Best trad multi-pitch route yet by far - incredibly sustained jamming and bridging up a beautiful corner crack with hand, fist, offwidth jamming as well a chimneying - it's got it all. Simply brilliant!

Led alt pitches with dave. Scored crux. Passed nice French guide who came in above first 3 pitches. Descent required down climbing and 3 abseils and took almost as long as 7 pitch ascent in the rain.

The route follows patches of high quality rock through the shrubs. Very homogeneous, but it was definitely too hot in the full sun.

Sam and I were both sick, making this route a bit demanding. I would repeatedly go aerobic while climbing, so would have to jam myself in the chimney to recover. Very amusing. This was the Watchtower Crack of the Verdon.

Finished on Catalunya Mon Amour probably for at least the last pitch. Believe Andy and I alternated leads. Recall leading P1 as I showed Kayley how to setup an anchor and belay a seconder using guide mode at first belay. Also recall Andy leading the last pitch as it was an easy one to do in the dark!

Nice slab and crack climbing, 30m pump makes the anchor move fun! You may get some low military jets tearing straight overhead for some extra spice.

Nice climbing in an awesome setting. The traverse pitch (pitch 4, graded 6a in our guidebook) is exposed and very nice.
