If there is a sandstone-climbers heaven, it surely will look a lot like Adrspach: Over 1800 free-standing rock formations, all within walking distance, from a few meters to 90 m giants. The stout ethics and sparse protection prevent flocking crowds, so you may encounter yourself on a hidden summit being the first party to climb it in years. Cheap basic camping a stones throw from the rocks, great beer, friendly locals - what's the catch? Traditionally influenced by the climbing in Sächsische Schweiz, the ethics are intense: No metal protection gear (friends, rocks, ...), very few and widely-spaced ring-bolts. Instead, knotted slings and webbing runners are used to (hopefully) prevent the worst. Boosting is essential in some routes, top-roping usually frowned upon. Combine this with sometimes sandy rock. If that alone were not enough, the rating is confusing at best: formally using Saxonian grading system, you are better off to always add at least a full number grade, and even that may not be enough. You are well adviced to seek the company of a local or do thorough homework at the route database (http://db-sandsteinklettern.gipfelbuch.de/gebiet.php?gebietid=1 , German) which will provide vital beta on what can be done and what should be avoided. Adrsbach is also a premium tourist destination, so expect crowds during weekends. However, these will largely be restricted to the main path loop, leaving enough undisturbed climbing elsewhere.
