Australia Tasmania Flinders Island North East rock Sisters
25 Sisters Trad 7m Very Good Mon 28th Mar 2022
FFA. Unless someone else wants to claim it, spotted this line last year, it took way too much skin and climbing days (3) but finally got the 3 sequences linked(success rate after figuring out the moves 70% first, 20% second, 30% third). Not that keen on having an accident on Flinders, so led it with 3 bits of gear- red C3, small wire, purple C3 and one more red C3 to top out.

20 Slash Trad 35m Average Thu 4th Mar 2021
Dark was coming, I was psychologically traumatised within about 2m- on second- I had foolishly thrown the first #6 to the ground instead of keeping it to aid so had to keep grovelling until I had an assortment of large cams to assist. Dave did well.

13 Unprecedented Finale Trad 30m Good Thu 4th Mar 2021
Down climbed at least half of this to get off after the horror of Slash

Australia Tasmania Flinders Island Killiecrankie Main Cliff Sedgies Buttress
20 Dire Straits Trad 100m Good Wed 9th Mar 2022
Desperate at 18, up there with juggernaut or wizard of ice , or slash. I think I jammed both legs in and did a semi invert move. A great offwidth problem. We finished at 30 m.

13 Sporran Trad 65m Very Good Wed 9th Mar 2022
Exited right because I hadn’t read the guide and had to do all sorts of shenanigans across the gully and downclimb to DBB. The right exit was quite good though.

21 Sedgie Returns Trad 25m Very Good Wed 9th Mar 2022
FFA. Had spied this after our rope got stuck in a crack earlier and I had to jumar up. A really nice link up, with a tricky traverse made interesting by the buttress namesake making an appearance. Double ropes needed, but well protected.

14 Up Your Kilt Trad 17m Good Sat 13th Mar 2021
I thought this was quite nice climbing with a convenient anchor at 17 m, ( and the old chain immediately below). Initialled. With Jonty.

14 Loch your kilt Trad 17m Good Sat 13th Mar 2021
Graded 15 in guide. Perhaps the second pitch is harder which we didn’t do. With Jonty.

Australia Tasmania Flinders Island Killiecrankie Main Cliff Campsite Buttress & Pinnacle
22 Do Not Soak Trad 35m Very Good Thu 4th Mar 2021
Wimped out on first attempt at low roof and came down. The traverse after this crux is tricky and I thought the exit from the alcove was equally tricky, thinking it was DoNot Fear, then saw it written up this way on here. Given the general stiff grades it could all be considered a Flinders 20. ( go try slasher if you want another grade 20 to compare )

25 Rain Bom Trad 15m Very Good Mon 14th Mar 2022
I just couldn’t make Dave’s beta work, though he used mine! A good bouldery problem but the move into the upper left hand crack was very frustrating for me.

20 Rain Shadow Trad 70m Very Good Wed 2nd Mar 2022
First pitch only, gratified to see it upgraded in new guide, it is still hard at 20. We both slipped off on lead attempts. Will come back for the whole route. The fixed wires are no more ( ours are in at the moment)

The third pitch is stupendous classic climbing, though it’s easier than the first 2 feisty pitches which are also very good, but first pitch a little spoogy. Descent in 2 raps from above golden ticket to pinnacle then down with a 70 m rope gets you to ground

14 Rain Dance Trad 15m Good Mon 14th Mar 2022
Amazing rock, with tiny lattices between the water washed granite, and an easier way to get to the first belay of Rain Shadow when you haven’t warmed up yet.

17 Golden Ticket Trad 65m Classic Wed 2nd Mar 2022
Led P1 and 3. Superb rock and fun moves throughout

16 A Christmas Carol Trad 49m Very Good Thu 4th Mar 2021
Dave did pitch one and 3, I lead P2. First two pitches really good, borderline classic.

19 Captain Pugwash Trad 20m Good Mon 21st Mar 2022
We actually did this last year thinking we were doing Christmas Carol first pitch. DIF joins into it to exit.

21 Dante In Furneaux Trad 30m Good Mon 21st Mar 2022
FFA. For technical crack lovers. I wanted to call it the Lube Tube, it was particularly slippery in the morning, but a sunset send by Dave in better but much hotter conditions was done. #4 very useful for the tricky tube bit.

18 Well Hung Trad 27m Good Wed 9th Mar 2022
Only a short tricky section. There is no abseil bolts as suggested in guides- we finished up the corner. There is a good threader 2 m back that would work with tat.

18 Far Away Places Trad 40m Classic Thu 4th Mar 2021
Best done by climbing to the first ledge, bringing up belayer and then going to anchor from there. All the grades here feel stout. Chain belay and lower offs at top 35 m to ground

18 Far Away Places Trad 40m Classic Wed 9th Mar 2022
Rpt, second pitch to get off well hung. Such a great bit of climbing

18 Farewell Gesture Trad 55m Classic Thu 4th Mar 2021
#3 cam size is not my forte, I had used one too early and not saved it for the section I needed it so lowered back to ledge to retrieve it and start again. Did the crux fine.

17 Adventures in Paradise Direct Finish Trad 18m Classic Thu 4th Mar 2021
A very airy finish to a stupendous outing

19 Adventures in Paradise - with da, David Gray Trad 85m Mega Classic Thu 4th Mar 2021
The topo in the book is a bit off on the traverse. Pitch one is pretty hard if you are short for a few metres. As is the start of P2. End of P2 is the shared finish with Firetail- a reason to aspire to grade 30 climbing if ever there was one. P3 is a steep and mostly jaggy crack. The positions are wild and exposed and the rock generally fantastic and it’s an awesome well conceived route when you include the direct finish as the 4th pitch

20 Sunset Boulevard Trad 60m Very Good Wed 9th Mar 2022
Led p1, second P2, we did a direct finish to the right. Starts off mossy and not great, but then nice twin cracks and amazing moving to belay. The traverse is quite hard, then good steep moves up to top. Our rap ring and tape from last year at the station still looks good.

15 Geranium Trad 60m Good Thu 4th Mar 2021
The first pitch is average, though interesting for the first 5 metre as. The second pitch is great, even for a chimney

22 Taipan - with David Gray
1 17 20 lead by Vanessa Wills
2 22 25 lead by David Gray
Trad 45m Classic Thu 4th Mar 2021
First pitch tricky for 17, second pitch impossible if 167 cm with negative ape factor. And even if you are tall, it looked damn hard, even at 22 as it is on thesarvo. However I climbed a left hand variant that had insane laybacking but went clean, on second by climbing to the base of the crux, then moving down and left to a beautiful flake into thin hands.

24 The Gang-gang Gang Trad 30m Very Good Sun 27th Mar 2022
Not as good as the original, the traverse right to join BB is best done quickly on a low spooge day

24 No Time for Games Trad 27m Classic Thu 24th Mar 2022
FFA. Team FFA, amazing what a bit less humidity can do. Interesting to compare our sequences which were quite different, especially on the left traverse. Worth the long walk from killiecrankie instead of Docks forachange

23 Angry Birds Trad 25m Very Good Fri 25th Mar 2022
FFA. Grade from the exit traverse, though good moves from the start. The linking traverse done low is kinder IMO having done them both, as the gear post traverse feels better. But the upper line is good too.

22 Bird Noises Trad 25m Very Good Mon 21st Mar 2022
FFA. If it wasn't for the start it would be classic, still damn good, amazing rock, and solid lead by Dave

23 Magical Faraway Tree Mixed trad 20m, 5 Good Mon 21st Mar 2022
Lead it with a couple of falls, then top roped a couple of times. Can do it clean with my umbilicus at first bolt, but starting off the ladder is a touch too low for me to get established and very finger skin destroying so it wasn’t worth more time. Lovely moves on flakes and lots of gear. Generously bolted.

16 Deep End Trad 60m Classic Mon 14th Mar 2022
Fantastic route at the grade through outrageous rock architecture. The bollard to abseil off at 60 m is quite wide, 2m of tat needed. The existing tat is ok, but very sun bleached.

20 Tendernitis/ Tendonitis Trad 68m Good Mon 28th Mar 2022
A bit. Contrived as you step into DD briefly, and the move back right favours long arms. The thin cracks at the start were nice

16 Double Diabolical Trad 74m Good Mon 28th Mar 2022
The starting crack was good, but over too soon. Seems to head into the route to the left, though we stayed out of the chimney which is easy when you aren’t worried about gear!

17 Side Saddle Trad 110m Very Good Mon 28th Mar 2022
This was an excellent route - first pitch only, even the chimney was great

22 Deb Ball Trad 40m Very Good Mon 8th Mar 2021
A long battle, dropping it on only on the exit move when the base of the v groove after the slanting hand crack was full of loose rock and dirt, with a larger loose boulder on top of the sedge and I decided I needed a #4 and a clean. I set up a belay 10 m from the top on hands free ledge below final crack and then climbed on. Great climbing, rock a little crumbly in spots.

18 Armageddon Trad 50m Good Mon 8th Mar 2021
The first roof and just after were harder than the second. Some quite tricky moves

18 Cold Journey Trad 50m Good Mon 8th Mar 2021
Nice flake sequence

13 Silver Stairs Trad 130m Very Good Fri 4th Mar 2022
Alt leads with Dave ( who is a pitch hog as he linked 1 and 2 and 4 and 5. ) however I got the best belay at the top of pitch 3 in the cave with amazing threaders. The climb took less time, and was far more pleasant than the descent- we went via Sedgies gully, not recommended.

20 Trust Me, I'm an Idiot Trad 40m Very Good Mon 8th Mar 2021
The twin crack section was nice but I hate chimneys and my shoulder didn’t want to reach behind me. I ended up facing the opposite way to Dave to get up. At least it was nicer than Slash.

22 Squibs Slab Trad 20m Good Mon 8th Mar 2021
Would easily be a 24 in most places, even with bolts of which it has none. What a crazy lead. Little bits of rock still crumbling

About a V2+start. Nice rock and moves after the crumbly start.

Australia Tasmania Flinders Island Killiecrankie Main Cliff Beagle Buttress
17 Beagle Rock Trad 100m Good Thu 4th Mar 2021
This is given 3 stars in the guide. It has a nice belay at the end of P4 an amazing threader. The crux on P3is quite diabolical and ok for amusement factor but feels way harder than 17. P1 is a vegetated grovel and P2 a short intense corner. P5 airy, P6 nice rock but easy. Minus points for descent down vegetated gully. And it looks like a bulldog rather than a beagle, and then only from a boat.

17 That Sinking Feelng Trad 20m Good Thu 4th Mar 2021

Australia Tasmania Flinders Island Killiecrankie The Docks Paradise Prow
24 Jackjumper Sport 18m, 6 Very Good Tue 1st Mar 2022
Will have to try again, the move to the arete from flake to enable the throw to the horn is out of reach for me, feeling more 25 for vertically challenged. managed all the other moves, though often a couple of moves to Dave’s one needed. This does seem like it has retro bolted Paradise Prow, which must have been a pretty scary route.

24 Jackjumper Sport 18m, 6 Very Good Wed 9th Mar 2022
Fifth go overall, a less humid day helped so I reverted to the tiny crimps into a hand jam throw as I could not reach the holds around the arete whatever I tried at the crux.

5 The normal route Trad 100m Very Good Thu 3rd Jan 2019
There are harder moves by a long way on Moss Ridge tree trunks. 3 day mission farm house creek return, summit in perfect weather from cutting camp and back there again on day 2. The scramble up is very easy but exposed once I stopped looking for climbing routes and started looking for cairns. Beautiful country with a light pack. Not sure I would lug a rack and rope in there. Will probably upgrade it to classic tomorrow with a good nights rest.

19 The Newcastle start to Sydney route Trad 80m Good Sat 20th Feb 2021
We couldn’t suss out the start the day before due to the amount of rocks being dropped by a party on the route, so just headed up early morning to see if the super direct approach worked. Any placements we had needed major excavation, so whilst it’s possible the line has been done it didn’t feel like it. Felt a bit R even for Frenchman’s standards, but was enjoyable in a type 2 fun way.

16 The Sydney Route Trad 380m Classic Sat 20th Feb 2021
After doing an interesting 2 pitch start, we got onto the route proper and made up time. Alt with Dave. After the horrible 3rd and 4 th pitches the rest was fun, and choss mostly avoidable. Climbed right wall of exit chimneys as much as possible. Visionary routing by Pettigrew and Allen that could be tidied up and do with a better description. Led 3/4, 6,8,10,12/13. Back eating dinner before dark.

The pitch only. The hype is worth it, what a great crack. Nice size for girl hands, varied throughout, it just keeps going. Only downer was the increasing weight of the mega rack Dave used. Seems like it had been done yesterday, so maybe was cleaner than normal. Shame the top pitch isn’t clean, it actually looks like it would be good climbing. Comments from yesterdays ascent made me laugh. That may have been me before I learnt to hand jam…

Just the top pitch, would get very good with a couple more bolts, the run out on the slabs is stupid, but maybe if you can do the 26 onsight it’s ok. Was further around than we thought, took a while to find, but the faded cloth around a tree across the track to denote the turn off is still there

We carted 2 ropes and 6 #1s up to try and lead this, but ran out of time so just did a TR lap each. The hands are thin, even for me so I think 0.75 may be more like it. Hands quite swollen from 3 days of pack carrying. Kind of repetitive, but a good challenge. Needs a good scrub. It was raining lichen.

Sea kayaked to narcissus, walked to Geryon campsite day 1. From Geryon campsite Walked to north summit via ascending scree on opposite side of creek, to labyrinth, then eventually finding the walking track to north summit. ( just under 4 hours). Cold westerlies led to snagged rope on abseil from north summit. Abseiled down west side of Foresight to base of south summit pitches. Nice pitches once we figured out where to go. Long exposed descent to scree chute. Where there are beeches seeming to block the way, just push through. About 12 hours at a leisurely pace, but 2 hours of that were navigation errors. Day 3 walked back to Acropolis rail and then up Acropolis, tried Astroboy, walked back to our boats near Narcissus, got up early and seakayaked out. An excellent 72 hours
