Have you done the abseil but realise you left your stove on? Just climb back up the abseil terrain.
You will be effectively soloing most of this due to literally no gear placements, but you'll come out of it a better slab climber (no guarantees) |

We planned for Jannice to lead pitches 1 and 3, and I would lead pitches 2 and 4, but Jannice ended up running pitch 1 and 2 together (which is also what happened the first time I climbed this route as a seconder).

When planning this route, I deliberately asked not to lead pitch 3, as the overhung start made me nervous. It ended up being really good for me that Jannice accidentally ran pitches 1 and 2 together, leaving me to lead this pitch. The overhung block start is much easier than it looks, with plenty of protection. I actually found the steepening groove/crack section after the start much harder and more interesting, and was very pleased with my clean and measured lead through there. Jannice and Penny had very validating reactions when they seconded that section.

Jannice did not find an anchor point to her satisfaction, and wandered off far left back to the Melmoth rap point to finish the climb. | 120m | ★★★ Mega Classic
As stated in my initial log of this route as a seconder with Meg and Jarrah, I was keen to come back and lead it someday, and I finally did! It's even better on lead, and I look forward to repeating and enjoying Sunstroke many times in the future with friends, and hopefully with clients. I would love to eventually log leads of every pitch. It was great to bring Penny along as the seconder. She greatly enjoyed the multipitch adventure and the stunning views.

Took a little while to summon the courage for the initial step up, not helped by the wetness. Rest of P1 was a doddle and P2 really excellent. Can't recommend P3. Much better to finish up the Balance undercling and there's no gear from the top of that to the end.

Enjoyed the placements and anchor building and just practising skills. Reece went well too, good to have him back on the rouugggzzzz again.
interesting walk in down a screen and with some bush bashing. tip - get as close to the bottom of the slab as possible, theres a better climbers trail there than thru the spikey bushes i'd say. |

would smash out 3-4 of these with Dyl I reckon, if we rap on an 80m fixed line, and link/solo a lot of the easy slab sections.

Really enjoyable slanting crack/slab combo at the start. Your upper body is crack climbing and your lower body is slab climbing. I found lots of comfortable jams with my right hand that complimented some careful slab footwork very well. Plenty of protection on this pitch.

Fun, interesting, easy terrain through the scoopy white and brown marbled rock in the middle of the cliff. Lots of possible beta options and minor variations through this section. Protection more sparse than the first pitch but not uncomfortably so.
3
We did not do the third pitch. | 85m | ★★ Very Good
Fun fun fun on interesting rock, and decent protection to boot! This was our chill, relaxed palette cleanser after getting real scared on Euripus. We ran up it fairly quickly as we were racing nightfall.
We did not do the third pitch, we walked off right from the chains at the top of the second pitch. |

The shallow flared cracks at the start of the route are difficult to fit anything into. Offset nuts would be useful here. I didn't get a piece in until I was 8-10m off the deck. Very, very delicate and focused slabwork, especially when there's no good pro. Thankfully I was able to keep my head on straight, if I had panicked I probably would've ended up decking it. Jannice informed me on the car ride home that she got to work with removing sharp branches in the brush behind her to reduce my chances of getting impaled if I did end up taking a ground fall. Very thoughtful of her and telling of how stressful it was for her as well, and thankfully I generated only upward momentum. Blessedly at the top of the main slab crux section is a much easier slab walk with actual handholds, but still nothing in the way of pro until you get to the blocks. This is where some offset cams would have been very useful. Plenty of anchor-building options. Jannice's pitch was maybe only slightly easier than mine but somehow even less protected. Proud of us for having done it and keeping our heads together, but if I never repeat this route as long as I live it will be too soon. | 83m | Average
After climbing this route I'm a bit baffled by the two stars on it. The lack of protection on this route is frightening. I guess if you really get a kick out of flirting with fate then those two stars are for you. I got 4 pieces into my pitch and Jannice only got 2 in hers.
I would highly recommend some offset nuts and small offset cams for this route - they might be the gear needed to reduce it from a brown trouser situation to more of a comfortable wet pantleg situation. Jannice led the second pitch. 40m seems long for this pitch. The midpoint of my 60m rope was in my belay device when she called for me to take her off belay, and I'm pretty confident she was in the right spot. We did not do the third pitch, which was specifically mentioned to be unprotected and seemed quite unnecessary when there is a straightforward walk/scramble off to the right. |

A fun little warmup stroll with nice bolted protection. The only thing that makes this part a little sketchy feeling is how hollow some of the rock sounds on the lower part. Didn't break anything though.

Pretty easy climbing, not too scary at all, though I kind of wish we built the anchor a little higher than the tiny dead tree, as could have potentially had a flatter ledge to sit on during it. I think we might have technically gone a touch right of the main line here near the end, not that it makes much difference overall.

Nice climb, though the cracks were wet from recent rain.
Linked P1/P2 - ran it out along the weakness for the last of P2 rather than traversing left (wet) or doing the variant. Made an anchor near the top of the block from a wire, .75 and 1, after scraping out some of the moss and muck. Linked P3/P4 starting straight up the corner with stems, but couldn't quite reach the pro at the back of the top terrace with my ~60m rope, so I marched back down the cracks and made a sub-optimal anchor in the flared groove. Nick led the last 10m again to put in the final anchors. Gear: double rack + wires, but used less than half of it at any one time... mostly just wires and .75-2. I actually tried to do this climb earlier in the week with Bec, but misunderstood the approach beta and ended up having a bad time bashing through Cocker's gully. |

Adventurous day out with a torrid approach via a chossy gully.
The opening crux move is rather delicate and definitely harder than a 14. Perhaps some useful feet and hands were lost in the past fires. Second pitch is mostly ascending an enormous flake. One day it will come crashing down, but until then the hands and feet are pretty solid, so protect as little as you are willing. Third pitch has an easier start to the right of the belay before working back left again. The final section is runout friction slab, although the copious lichen and moss meant there was a little less friction than desired. |

My first multi-pitch. Couldn't be more chuffed, and had great company. Can't wait to come back and lead it.

Mostly good protection following the small cracks. painful approach with lots of bush bashing, much longer than expected. End of first pitch was wet and mossy near the belay. Best to use a 70 to allow for longer pitches

Quick reccy day trip with Tones. Done in 3 pitches. 1 & 2 were fun and interesting, 3 was a bit of a walk.

This is exactly what I wanted from my trip to boroomba. I felt like I was back in the 70s. But with TC pros. Frictiony slabs, running it out over marginal gear. Getting a bit lost and questing out after pitch 2. So great. I couldn't find the key #8 BD nut placement on pitch 1 and ended up stepping onto the slab with a cluster of mediocre HB's keeping me off the deck. Was a thrill. Then great nut and hex placements towards another awesome bit of slab to the bolt belay. Watching Jake 'dyno' Delany cruise two 10ish metre runouts on thin slab of pitch 2 was mega. Glad I seconded that one. After the Trad anchor under the overlap, we stepped left and finished up the last 2 pitches of Tachyon, which starts with a really cool mantle onto a slab. A fun way to finish. So glad we went for this one, a really memorable experience.
