Oxford Falls Guide

  • Grade context: AU
  • Ascents: 3

A Crag Guide gives an extensive view of all sub areas and climbs at a point in the index. It shows a snapshot of the index heirachy, up to 300 climbs (or areas) on a single web page. It shows selected comments climbers have made on a recently submitted ascent.

At a minor crag level this should be suitable for printing and taking with you on a climbing trip as an adjunct to your guidebook.

description

Behind the waterfall! Climbing here may be currently banned - and that would really be for the best. As for some other cliffs, this is more of a warning than a guide. A few poxy rambles with no repeat value were done here - at least we didn't put any bolts in.

The waterfall is quite nice though.

access issues

Climbing here may be currently banned. Park at the gate over the waterfall crossing walk to the waterfall.

approach

Two monstrous old rap bolts - remnants from some commercial abseiling in the past - on the lower ledge on the right hand side (facing down the waterfall). Or you can walk around to the right.

ethic

Please do not bolt here.

RouteGradeStyleSelected ascents
1 Snakes on the vertical plane

Up the right trending diagonal line to the ledge. Traverse the easy ledge to the pile of blocks on the left (Two snakes were encountred on the first ascent) . Belay from here. Straight up through slabs (litle gear for first 3 m's but easy climbing) to top out near abseil bolts. Not a lot of gear on the first pitch and you will need micro cams for what is there.

Scramble up to the left of the cave for a few metres, to the cleanest-looking blocky ramp. Up.

9 Trad 12m
4 Trad Ramble 3

Up near the waterfall proper. Climb the boulder on climber's left of the stream, crash through trees, then up the little headwall to top out right on the main rock platform.
