Ali's was the perfect family outing on this hot summers day as it is mostly in shade. We went through Ali Baba's Cave for little adventure and then back to Ali's to The Bluffs. I belayed the kids up the first section to the chain and again on the final scramble from The Bluffs, it was wet in parts.
15m-20m rope should be enough.
Easy walk down Central Gully in the hot summers sun.
a sketchy via ferrata route that i don't want to repeat. if this was the bluey's there would be at least a handline to the start of the chains. point made after there was an emergency rescue.
This route absolutely flogged me. Definitely the upper end of the 19 spectrum. Bouldery start, some borderline Dyno hand jams, but eases from midway and results in some excellent stemming sections. Gear galore, great for aiding on second.
while this was meant to be our warmup and approach to thunder crack, the real warm up was the run to and from camp fro the base of the crag at the very moment Aurora was ready to put me on belay, all because I forgot my shoes in the chaotic procession towards thunder crack. what until Bunsieur hears that one.
Grrrrr. An absolute bar fight of a climb. Had to sit on a cam to place some not-terrifying pro, on the crux, at the start of the climb, above the ledge, with glassy feet, and few holds ... A spicy number indeed
