Ascents in Echo Crag having Beta

Came close to sending this but messed up the sequence at the last bolt, might go next time

Wouldn’t be mad if they added an extra bolt before the anchors. There’s a no hands rest before the crux which makes it much easier.

wowee, that second pitch. So clean and classy. Loved how open you feel charging up the middle of the wall.

The logical and best finish to a very enjoyable wall. Came off on the last move then climbed to top 2nd go. Holds get smaller until they all but disappear for the cruxy exit.

Followed Cliff up first pitch, finished up Touch-type. Very easy to follow for the grade.

Seconded The Cliffmeister up this. Did it clean. Got two left fingers JUST on at the end hard move, almost came off but Cliff shouting ‘Stick it! Stick it!’ helped me keep on and finish it. Cool cool ending to the fiddoddle which is the lower half.

Quite nice if a little stop start

A great crack that should see more repeats. Don’t worry about the bees, they left us alone. Plugged a few C3’s in the narrow crack for the move then easy jugging to the top

Great long warm up in approach shoes. Lovely rock.

Beautiful experience route reading with such freedom over a huge rock face. Found a nice rhythm and executed the balancy moves near the top with confidence and joy.

First time being lowered into a huge sea of rock was a very cool sensation. Felt lonely and exposed for the first few metres then found some rhythm.

Fantastic line! Perhaps a bit soft for an Arapiles 14, which is to say it's not sandbagged!

Spoiler (gear beta) The initial diagonal traverse to gain the line protects reasonably well with a yellow WC micro cam

One sit after misreading the crux. Great route.

Followed John up this. Rapped down on a single rope strand tied in a fig 8 at the chains. Nice route.

Take some cams or nuts for the final head wall..

Got stung by bees and retreated. Should have read the warnings 😅

Very delicate movements that somehow feel more secure than you think they should.

Crack section was actually really fun, top half is a bit average, would’ve been a good day out but kev couldn’t retrieve a small yellow dragonfly cam. The top out of the crack now has fixed gear 😢

Might be 21 in primo conditions and a 7 foot wingspan. I had neither of those. Unless I missed an obvious hold, the moves between bolts 2 and 3 felt absolutely nails. Raptures of the Steep is easier

crux holds weren't fun in the baking sun

Best route of the trip. Do this climb. Do you see that photo of the flake? It is every bit as good as it looks in that photo.
